Januzaj contract negotiations tied up into a 5 year deal. These players all hit form at the same time as Saido. It's slow business as usual for us I'm afraid. So your argument is based on two teams in Europe with insane amounts of money to throw at them and realistically teams the player cannot improve on and in Townsend's case the team he's always supported? Whereas the whole basis of why so many larger clubs are linked is because they can give Saido more money and price us out.
I notice Gareth McAuley isn't playing against Israel tonight, nor is he on the bench.suspension for accumulated yellow cards, I think Johnny Evans is the same.
Anyone know if he's injured?
He's just scored for the under 21-s within the opening couple of minutes. It's Ravel Morrison's, Saido didn't get a touch but was enough to trick the keeper who fumbled it in the wrong side of the post. He's struggling on his own up front, cant turn his man and is struggling to make space between the lines for Morrison to exploit, the one time he has was the goal. Ince isn't doing anything for me, but Zaha 's got that left wing down.
I'm relying on Twitter but there are apparently some doubts about whether the goal is actually his.
can we just sign him now pleaseNot outside the window... We have to wait.
we should get fundraisers standing outside the ground and call it the amalfitano fund
haha but seriously please sign him up
A good point , lets see how he gets on now defenders will have heard of him.Zuiverloon is currently at ADO Den Haag. a middle to low team in the Eredivisie after being sold in the summer by Heerenveen (who we bought him off in the first place) and they play each other this weekend!!
I can remember Gianni Zuvi getting rave reviews after 6 or 7 games but the last i heard of him he was having trials at Millwall. One step at a time
Think Izxzy Brown hadn't signed a contract had he? and Chelsea nipped in a paid the required £250K and off he went. Seems a crazy rule but it's okay in the Big Boys books because nobody will play in the So called "Big 4's" youth teams and then be poached away by a contract offer from West Brom. If we are taking Chelsea through the legal channels for more money that certainly gets my vote, not only for us but for every other middle/lower ranking PL club.
As I said before the club are in a different position with Saido and more importantly he seems, from what i've seen, to be a top young man with dare I say it integrity and loyalty in his characteristics.
And you know for sure that we DID ??no, but I'm not the one complaining about something I don't know the answer to...
They had 2 regular starters, the rest wouldn't get a game in their first.Lets stop kidding ourselves we have missed a wonderful opportunity here.to lost to Chelsea? great chance there...
Surely we would just wear our usual away shirt as red and black doesn't clash with black and white unless severely colour blind...or just blind. I'm sure when we've played Sunderland in the past we've both worn stripes, if not then we'll be in the sh*t when we play Sunderland away as none of our kits would be allowed. It's not the stripes that is the problem, it's their colour. the home kit's fine against Sunderland as it's blue shorts and socks. We had to wear blue shorts against Soton last year even though their's was basically all red (cant remember this season) as they are put down as red and white, while the dark blue and black on our kits are deemed too similar to 'castle in the case of offside rulings (remember they had the rule change on coloured tape to help offside rules) where a flash of colour can be the difference.
Why the f*** didn't we at least make an enquiry about Defoe. He would have been a no-brainer for at least an ask ??and you know for sure that we didn't?
Does anybody know how his training is going? I see he played for a reserves game. If he could get to playing like we know he can, he would have the effect of a quality new signing.Article on the OS said they're aiming for next 2 weeks for Gera and Thorne, Reid and Long are ready for Selection and Vydra not far away, I think they mentioned that Gera had a slight knock in training and held him back a week or so.
Had to laugh when the lino stopped the game because he thought Myhill had passed a goal kick out to Olsson inside the area when in fact it was a free kick.Missed that , when did that happen?
class today, he is a roughy toughy winger, not afraid to put a foot in, sinclair on the other hand..Sinclair's never been a roughy toughy winger though, didn't stop him doing well in the league before with Swansea
Good team selection IMO. Glad to see that its a 4-2-3-1. Only question for me is can Anelka play in that centre forward role?
thought we got out of jail with GM brilliant header, first half same old same old, better 2nd half , SC found out something that most of us have known for a long time , if you want to play 4-4-2 and score goals do not play Yacob and Mulumbu together, and certainly not at home, thought CB had decent game as did new boy Almafatina should be a great asset once he settles in , if Anelka is going to be an asset he has to stay further up the pitch and we have to get the ball up to him a lot quicker, at moment he drops to deep , immediately attracts two markers ans more often than not loses possession, as for VA remains to be seen how useful he is going to be, but there were signs in 2nd half of an improvement , but we are no nearer to sorting out the formation that is best for the team , and with sessignon to come i suspect that Yacob and Anelka may well not be a regular part of that formationAmalfitano, close though!
Don't ask me why, but if Clarke is sacked I smell one of two names: Tony Pulis or Curbishley. Both underwhelm me, but I can't see Peace appointing another green-eared assistant or crony if that approach didn't work with Clarke. I think we'll give him at least 8-10 games (barring embarrassment or outraging losses) but shudder to think, in a way, about what's out there. Unless we spring for an International Manager from Germany or Spain that is in the mold of Pochettino or Klopp (fat chance), I can't think of any real captivating talent out there. We'll see.Remember the other two strongly linked when Clarke got the job? Claudio Ranieri and Ralf Rangnick, Both were apparently close but one went to Monaco, the other is a Sporting Director for Salzberg and Leipzig. Doesn't suggest a fear to look in the Eurpoean market, hell we apparently had interest in Laudrup at one stage. True there were others we looked at closer to home (Chris Hughton) but the net was spread quite wide.
If he doesn't perform will it be £3m wasted or £6m wasted?£3m, The further £3m is all additionals for appearances, goals scored and what not. Like Bent not being used last year because of the additional cost Lerner wasn't prepared to pay.
We've paid £3m-£3.5m haven't we?rising to £6m on performance, so really atm he was bought for £3m
Great game today so credit where it's due , would politely ask him to only take the left sided corners though.which reminds me, missed MOTD so cannot confirm but for the goal did Brunt take the corner with the outside of his foot?
