West Bromwich Albion FC / Jan 2020 Transfer Window
« on: January 31, 2020, 11:30:07 PM »
I think for a window that usually provides little we have done fairly well. Diangana extending is great, Grosicki is a brilliant player at this level and at a great price. Peltier as well is a very astute piece of business who is great at this level, a leader and cost nothing. Robinson also add to our attacking threat in all forward areas.

The obvious downside is the Ferguson deal breaking down as this will cost us lost transfer fees as well as us having a potential problem player after the breakdown of the move.

I think in general a good but not great window.

Brilliant player at low cost of transfer fee and wages, is a no brainer. 31 years old in this day and age is no issue at all

Also a great thing for the club that he signs for a british club for a decent fee rather than a foreign club for £235k

If you break this down it really is a good deal, he was about to be let go for nothing at the end of this season before Slav gave him his break, he has had some great games, some good games and some poor games. So £5-10m instead of nothing is great.

He may turn out to be a world beater or a non league misfit but all the club can judge this on is what we currently know and that is good money for someone nobody rated six months ago.

Not sure if it is just me but as they were about to take the free kick SJ looked way to placed to the left of the goal making it impossible to save a decent free kick into the opposite corner.

Not digging him out but it just stood out a mile before they even took the set piece.

He said that we would have a sticky patch during the season and with the way this divison works I am sure a lot of us fans expected the same. If our bad patch is one loss and some draws I would take that all day long.

If we are going to lose faith in Slav when we are top of the division we really need to ask ourselves what exactly do we want and expect?

Every time I have seen Bond he has been very good, surely he deserves a couple of games?

Its been stated on here that we offered Barry £500 a week for his first year in his first professional contract so he rejected it. Can't blame him.

I would be careful accepting rumour as fact.

Wow there really are some bitter people on here, wishing him a serious injury is a disgrace to be fair.

Two points, we poach youngsters all the time from smaller clubs and I dont see anyone complaining about this, also if you are 16 and not an Albion fan and you can go to Barca and make your family for life what would you do?

I think the home crowd affect him, away from home generally are where his best performances come. To be fair he aint a bad keeper but we have just been spoilt with Foster for several years.

If we are going to rest players I guess Wigan are the team to do it against.

Never been a fan but I must say he has been great all season but today he was superb. Proper leader now and when he is out it clearly shows how important he is.

Fair play I dont remember Megson saying that but Pulis definately said that that Field was the best young talent he had ever worked with or words to that effect.

Have to say I think too much is being made of the sideways / backwards passing. There's a strong chance that any tendency towards that so far is down to not feeling settled in the team and/or lack of availability of runners for forward passes.
There's a general acceptance that he can tackle and we've seen that he has a decent engine and can get forward. He was there to make the run and finish for the winner at Sheff Utd. He scored in the prem v Newcastle by arriving late in the box, and showed that same late arrival on other occasions.

Sick of saying this but Megson said he has the best passing range at the club - he wouldn't say that if the lad couldn't or won't pass forward.
His main competitors for a deeper role in a middle three are Livermore and Brunt. Brunt's tackling is a liability, he's not a defense minded DM and his role this year should be to come on fresh for the last 20 minutes when needed whether that's wide or LB ....or in midfield.

I stand to be corrected but I am sure it was Pulis that said this and more about Field.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Pre Season Positives
« on: July 26, 2019, 10:05:57 PM »
From what I have seen there are positives that we can work on. Dara looks to me like he can make the step up, Leko looks more intelligent, Furlong looks decent, Semi is raw but promising, Kricko is obvious quality and if Field cant get a game I give up

On Sky

West Brom have agreed a fee with Brentford to sign Romaine Sawyers, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News understands the deal to be in the region of £3m, and the midfielder is set to undergo a medical with the Baggies on Friday.

Celtic had been one of a number of other clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old, who has just one year left on his contract at Griffin Park.

Team for the first game could include:

Mr Lai (Centre forward)
Mr Jenkins (Centre of defence)
and our DoF
Mr Dowling in Mid-field!

Three best paid players in the league.

When I left the club yesterday I went past John Homer who I wouldnt call a good friend but we always say hello to each other but he just walked past me to his car which I never really thought to much about until you think about all the good staff that are leaving. They couldn't could they!!
