West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Villa friendly tomorrow

Is a massive point that has been overlooked...surely he cannot be allowed near this game?

Wouldn’t they just test him ? They seem to be testing the players and staff every other day lately

100%
But it’s not always the employees that are stringing it out, many employers see this as a great way to not incur costs ....and then make redundancies when they cannot claim any longer .

Yes great shout , employers will milk it as much as they can as well

Everyone saying second wave in 2 weeks due to the hot weather this weekend? What about the previous bank holidays how many has there been 3 now? And VE Day celebrations which were supposedly going to significantly increase the numbers yet they're still going down.

Nobody has a clue what’s going to happen mate , every scientist says something different, one says the virus will disappear without even needing a vaccine another will say it will come back even worse . How can all these so called scientists be so far apart on what they think .

There is spare capacity in testing, tracing is waiting for new cases, time for everyone one to man up, go to work if you can and stop all this woe is me nonsense.

This one million percent , at the beginning the furloughing scheme was the best thing the government did ,now it’s causing problems cause people are more then happy to sit at home getting paid , while keep making the point “ it’s to dangerous to go outdoors “ take the furlough away and you will soon see how dangerous people think it actually is. Why the government have kept this going till October is beyond me , June the latest. If they wanted to take it longer it should just be used for industry’s that can’t open ( pubs cinemas restaurants etc)

If You have a condition or are above a certain age I get it but everyone else should be getting stuck in now and trying to get things moving again.

I'm not arguing that people shouldn't return to work though. Some people will have dependants who are high risk, some won't.  Those who don't have that risk can cautiously return.  As the risk level drops then more will return to work.  That level where you're comfortable to return will vary for everyone.

Those who do have that risk should be supported rather than hassled into returning.  To me, it doesn't matter what that occupation is, or how much I like/dislike the person - we should treat them all the same.

I agree with what you're saying about fit and healthy, but in Deeney's case he's not concerned about his own health so much as more of his son's.

I have no idea about Deeney‘s situation and if he is looking out for his kid then I get it .

The poster above had a great idea about footballers being kept together for a month ,sounds a great idea. Cricket players regularly do it for test matches abroad . I mean at my work there’s been a few lads away on oil rigs and pipe binding boats for months . Away from their  family’s . That’s their profession same as football is a footballers profession. It would definitely be a way to protect their family’s and do their jobs at the same time

About returning to work , I wonder how many would already be back at work if it’s wasn’t for the furloughing scheme , the mentality towards going back to work would be totally different if people weren’t getting paid to do nothing I think .

Fortunately footballers have that luxury of being rich and can afford to stay off work , what would I have to do if my daughter had issues ? What would I have to do ?not work lose my job , not be able to feed my family and lose my home ?

Staying off work can’t go on forever and I agree everyone goes at different times but for working class people like us eventually there will become a time when you have to go back

It's not about a footballer catching it, it's about who they pass it onto.  How would you feel if you got ill at work, doing a job that didn't need doing, then came home and passed it onto someone vulnerable?

So when is a safe time to go back to work mate ?  There’s always going to be a risk now ,What we going to do stay in side forever , like I said the time now has come to adapt . What happens if this virus stays with us for years , are you saying people shouldn’t work if they feel unsafe ? Then lose there jobs and homes and have a chance of there mental health being destroyed?

Now is the time we have to get on with life and change . All industry’s not just football

I’m a healthy (I think  :D) 34 year old , I read the other day 1% of the deaths have been people under 40 and in that 1% , 96% of those had underlying health conditions. Those figures shouldn’t destroy the economy, shouldn’t let cancer death rates go sky high , shouldn’t let numerous illnesses going missing and shouldn’t destroy mental health . In my opinion millions of people have to change and should be willing to. There is a lot of other things to worry about then coronavirus, as bad as coronavirus is.

If your healthy and in a certain age bracket the risk is minimal, those people including myself are the ones that have got to man up and get the ball rolling again .

He's returning to one of the safest work environments in the world.

The guidance does not say he shouldn't go to work, it says he should report Watford FC to the local authority or the HSE if he has any concerns about safety in the workplace.

This one million percent , footballers are being protected more then any other industry I know of. This virus could be with us for years and years does that mean football ceases to exist? Or any other industry for that matter.

It’s at the point now we’re if your healthy and of a certain age , you’ve got to suck it up , adapt and get on with life otherwise life is just going to pass you by.

Adapt is the key word , we’ve all got to do it now the best we can !

How do you need 200-250 people for a behind closed door game  :o

What do think of this I received from someone I know, they had this as a generic outline on what to expect from Johnson's announcement on Sunday.

Government's road map to ease Covid - 19 restrictions will be set out in 5 phases, these phases will be on a 3 week process, the current phases would commence on the following dates.

Phase 1 - 18th May
Phase 2 - 8th June
Phase 3 - 19th June
Phase 4 - 20th July
Phase 5 - 10th August

If the virus cases begin to increase, they will revert to the restrictions set out in the previous stage.

Phase 1 of the roadmap will lift the following restrictions:

Constructions workers, landscape Gardeners and other outdoor workers may return to work

Garden Centres, repair shops and hardware stores may reopen

Fitness & Sport activities ( non - contact ) in small groups  ( max of $ people ) may resume ( golf included )

People may meet up with friends and family in small groups outside ( size of a "small group" is defined as up to 4 people )

The majority of regular health services will resume.

Outdoor public amenities and tourism sites may reopen ( beaches & mountain walks )

*NOTE - social distancing guidelines will remain in operation for all.

Phase 2 of the road map will lift the following restrictions

Restriction will be extended from 5km to 20 km.

Specific retail hours will be allocated for those currently cocooning.

Home visits will be allowed to those cocooning, by a small number of persons for a short period of time.

Up to 4 people may visits another household for a short period period of time.

Slightly larger family gatherings at funerals will be permitted ( limited to maximum safe social  distancing can still be applied )

Solitary workers and workers that can maintain social distancing can return to work.

Small retail outlets that can control staff and customer numbers and maintain social distancing may reopen.

Public libraries will reopen

Outdoor sporting activities, involving small group training ( no matches ) can recommenced ( no contact still allowed )

I will post the rest of this document when I have had a rest,

Pretty sure that’s the Irish plan mate , dates are exactly the same as theirs

Not football but the UFC starts back up tomorrow night ( 1am Sunday morning ) BT Sport. Can’t wait

12
Bob Taylor’s solo goal Luton away 94 , ran from our own half , dribbled round a few players and stuck it in the net

Kilbane did something similar Sheffield Utd away 97ish , we won 4-2 I think it was

Jason Koumas again another solo goal , forest away 04 I think

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Foster on Pulis...
« on: May 06, 2020, 12:05:40 PM »
For me Tony pulis’s time was my worse period as a West Brom fan , I started going in 1993.

Result wise and league positioning wise it isn’t , not close really is it , but what happened to me during that time was like nothing I’d experienced as a fan . I stopped caring, my love was gone. I stopped going to games regularly, the games i went to ,I just didn’t enjoy at all even if we won. It was just pointless , it proved to me that football was entertainment,I wasn’t being entertained and I lost all interest. I either spent match days in the pub or I was out with the missus checking the score at 5pm on a Saturday.

Being an also ran in the premier league didn’t help , mid table premier league life became boring . But it was boring because of the football we played . I can handle being an also ran as long I know my team go for a win in every game and we play half decent football. The rubbish that was served up wasn’t that.

Soon as he left I started going back up regularly again.

Think it was the Brighton away game we’re pulis had lost his last lifeline with me . Spent 40 million , a lot of potential in that side . Went there with so much optimism yet it was the same old rubbish football . If we had Messi in the side he would still play the same way.

The potential was there because the season before , the one we’re we gave up in February. That season from about October to February we played some great stuff and we’re winning games. Pulis drilled his 40 point method into the club and we just gave up .

Nobody will ever convince me he was not the main reason why we went down , not the only reason but he was the main culprit to me. He destroyed the club from the outside in and destroyed a lot of fans faith in the club .

league positions and the club earning millions doesn’t mean nothing to me , if I don’t care then what’s the actual point , I’d rather us be in league two and I actually care then be under Tony pulis again.

These last two seasons in the championship have been the best seasons since Steve Clarke’s first season in charge . I’ve really enjoyed it . This time round under Slaven I hope we go up because at least I know the team will try to win and we will have a go .

I heard one comment that “ the government just wants to know we’re we all are “ with this new app .

To me if you own a smartphone then they already know everything anyway . Location etc etc . I mean my wife knows what I’m doing and when I’m doing it so I’m sure the government can find out that information whether I have an app or not  :D

If it is going to gets us back to normal quicker and save lives then I’m all for it

16
Couldn't the rest of the season be decided by penalties?
If it's good enough for world cup matches why not.

6 players from each team
Both teams score the same amount = 1 point
The team that's scored the most.     = 3 points

If it's all about money that TV would want back why not just reduce each clubs payment over the next 3 years until it's repaid.
Clubs would have to cut their cloth so a reduced income is manageable, it's what the rest of the world is having to do.

It’s not going to happen but it would be a lot more exciting then what their proposing  ;D

I was thinking about Brighton’s claim that there’s a disadvantage not playing at home and having to play in neutral grounds . Now this would be correct if fans were in the stadium but an empty stadium . Is there really that much of an advantage playing in your home ground but with no fans . I’d say it’s minimal. The whole advantage for playing at home is having your own fans there . If it’s empty does it really matter we’re the games are played

17
No point voiding the season ready for the next one as It's unlikely the next one will start or be completed unless a vaccine is created

To me it makes more sense then playing a meaningless ending to a season mate . I’d imagine playing behind closed doors football in September will be a lot easier to do then in June.

18
The idea of not having relegation is ridiculous. If they finish the season then they should have relegation. What’s the actual point if they don’t ? Why put people at risk for what would be glorified friendly games. Title is won , 2nd and 3rd is more or less sown up. So the only bit of interest is who finishes 4th . What a stupid idea , I would much rather they voided the season then this .

I honestly can’t see me watching much behind closed doors football anyway , this would just stop me completely I think .

Void or go as normal behind closed doors , nothing in between , if it’s in between I’d rather they scrap it.

I hope all this bursts the bubble on football , the ridiculous money splashed out . I also hope the game realises how it relies on the fans being there instead of just patting us down for every penny we’ve got .

Football isn’t anything without fans in the ground!

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-first-club-publicly-opposes-premier-league-plan-to-restart-season-at-neutral-venues-11982337

Brighton the first, more to follow, or will they be the only voice against.
Money will be the decider.

Doesn’t every team have to agree to the restart for it to even happen

20
It's all well and good saying put them in a hotel etc but what if the players want to go home, see their families and kids etc.

Happens in cricket regularly mate , England’s test tours abroad last months were cricket players are away from their family’s .

I appreciate this is a different time and circumstances .

21
Wouldn’t bother me if there was no football until fans can go back and I know that could be 12 months time.

Imagine if we do go up then we have to play half a premierleague season behind closed doors, just be like a bunch of pre season friendlies.

Also not bothered about getting promotion if I’m not there to celebrate that’s what it is all about for me

Totally agree with you mate but from a clubs perspective with all this going on the premier leagues money would be more welcome then ever . For some clubs it would be the difference of surviving or not

22
That is good news then I was under the impression that if we weren’t promoted or if pereira didn’t play so many games the deal couldn’t happen

Let’s just hope this works, they seem confident. If they pull this off then they will be hero’s

24

Yes.

Do we ? I thought it was promotion or so many appearances. Which neither have been met. I could be totally wrong though

25
Large superstores have around 100 people+working at any given time why is 200 too much?

In fact with the number of shoppers etc it's already around 200

I really don’t think you can compare a football match to a supermarket mate , people are in there to get essentials to eat and drink . You can not compare the two I don’t think
