So starting with some positives.  I thought we started fairly sharply for the first half and hour or so.  We looked comfortable, We put some decent balls into the box, and we could have been one up was it not for a very cynical professional foul.  By the time we got into the second half it was a different game.  My take would be that our defence needs a steep learning curve, but I think stands a chance of doing a job at this level once we have game time.  With no attacking force at all, we will not survive.  HRK has the odd classic moment, but it was depressing to see Slav bringing him on as the only real option he had.  Edwards et al are big risks.  Hope it gets better, but I do not think it will without a really good striker, and after that start, I cannot see anyone being that interested in coming to us.

Yes I would go for this....Still think we need another forward.

I really do think we are doing him and ourselves and him no favours by not completing a deal.  We should now within reason take what we can get.  Anything is an upside

West Ham fans I now are raging about this.  They cannot understand how they have sold such an exciting young player. Noble  tweeting against the move as well.  Welcome back Grady.  We will surely cherish you.

Wow I really hope this comes off.  I am starting to feel just a little bit hopeful.

I hope this works for Leko.  I have to say, this does seem a little on the cheap side, and a good bit of business for the blues. However, this probably reflects the times we are in where wage rates and fees in the championship will both be falling like a stone.

I posted earlier on in the thread that he deserved an ROI call up.  Well done Dara!

Best wishes to him?  Do you think he is going to take up taxi driving in retirement?

Even with a mask on?

So last night of the proms there is no singing allowed and they sing on a controlled basis.  We do not.  Even with a mask I am not sure how this will work. Hopefully I am wrong, but I still think this is going to be a very different experience from what we are used to.

I get that we are living in difficult times, but this is more complex than it first appears.  For example, a lot of the people I go with have adult/junior combinations of tickets.  If a junior is too young to go without an adult can they go into the ballot?  If so does an adult automatically get to go with them?  I assume (and this will be really difficult), that singing will be discouraged as singing at volume enhances the spread of Covid.  The club is doing the best it can, but we just have to accept that this is not football that we love and know.  I am really surprised how much I am missing it to be honest.  I cannot wait to hear a full Hawthorns singing The Lords My Shepherd or Stevie Bulls a Tatter again soon.

So as far as I know season ticket sales remain suspended.  I had not renewed mine at the time that matches were suspended, and I do not believe it is clear when crowds will again be allowed into matches.  Even when allowed, in other sports capacity has been limited to 1/4 or so, so not all season ticket holders would be able to attend.  I also note that Sandwell (declining now), has been a Covid hotspot, and therefore logically we would not be first on the list to allow fans back.  All in all I think it looks somewhat bleak.  I cannot see fans returning before Christmas at the earliest, and even then there will be limitations.  There is not even the option to show games for free for Season ticket holders, as Sky holds these rights and will be reluctant to give them up, having lost so much benefit already.

This is a difficult choice.  Leko is an interesting player, and has shown some real bursts of quality.  For me, as yet not enough to warrant being a regular squad member in a premiership team.  So we either loan him again or we sell.  Selling frees up some resources for players who will get into the squad.  For me this has to be a better bet.  This is harsh on Leko, but equally he will need regular football which he will not get next year with us.  I am 90% sure selling is the right course of action... but 10% says he might come back and haunt us...Stevie Bull style.

The narrative is absolutely being reinvented here.  Up until the last couple of weeks we have been neck and neck with Leeds and it has looked pretty even.  The strongest championship club by far after lockdown were Brentford who so nearly pipped us before bottling it.  All clubs going up this season will face a very difficult time and the expectations of Leeds fans will be so much higher than ours.  We have gone up and down somewhat, but it is annoying that Sutton forgets our prolonged premiership tenure up until only a few seasons ago.  Smacks of playing to who he thinks is his audience and not to reality.

Remember Chris going around the ground in one of the seasons we got relegated.  He had tears in his eyes then and was really good with my lad who was quite small at the time.  I will miss him, great heart, great character. Love to see him back on the coaching staff, but for the moment good luck Chris.

Agree with other posters, it is rubbish radio, just looking for an impact.  Best thing to do is just turn it off, and not listen.  Closer to home, I always feel WM seems to be biased against us.  Never gave us the credit we deserved when we were the only Midlands team in the premiership in my view.

« on: July 23, 2020, 10:40:41 AM »
Taking on board the fact that Mr Lai is not a fan, and cash is tight (especially overseas currency for Chinese businesses), Mr Lai would be looking to sell his holding now we have been promoted back to the Premiership.  However, in the current climate the market for assets of this type will not be great.  The best we can now hope for is that we spend the limited funds we have wisely, but there is no two ways about it, we will be up against it with a very small and limited squad.  Worse still, there is some talk of the five subs rule continuing into the new season.  If so this will play into the hands of the better established clubs.

Great servant to our club.  It is the right time to move on, but I would live to see him return to the coaching staff soon.  Thank-you Chris for the many many good times, your heart was always in it for us, and your passes at times were world class.  Whatever you do next the very best of look.  Given recent events, I could not begrudge you a good couple of years at Stoke.

It will take a day for my heart rate to get back to normal. We scraped it. Think we are likely to come straight back down, but now we can dream...

Agree psychology is important.  However at the end of the day we have a talented team which can win this match with space to spare.  A couple of early goals should settle us... here is hoping.  Our professional players need to do a professional job.. simple as.

after yesterday I was very nearly sick.  So sick in fact that I could not watch any scores today... I logged on and just decided to peep.  My wife thought I was having a heart attack when she heard the yelp that came out of me.  I really cannot believe our luck.  Good god football is a strange game.  As for JM, I genuinely always liked him.  I am still fundamentally stunned.  Please please please do not balls up QPR now!!!!

This lad is excellent. Surprised if we do not see him in the full Ireland set up soon.  Would have really loved to have been there to sing he's one of our own, he's one of our own...

I've been texting a Leeds mate of mine. Last weekend he was confident they had done enough to get promoted, now he's bricking it - "everything is perfectly set up for us to mess it up". I fancy them against Stoke tomorrow but they also have a tricky game at Swansea on the weekend and will also be feeling the heat.

Pressure is on for them.  I fancy them against Stoke, but there are no easy games here.

That was a massively important win.  Fantastic play, keeps the gap.  O'Shea had an excellent game which I am so pleased about- Next WBA international?  Pareira fantastic and Gros also great.  Only downside is we were not in the ground to watch.
