I'm glad we finally have our man, by the looks of it anyway. I can't see him transforming us into a functional premier league side, but he does give us more chance of scoring a fair few and having a go.

I don't love the reports that he left Charlton and now Huddersfield under a bit of a cloud and I think he is more of a wide forward than a centre forward, but atleast if he scores goals we can make a potential profit on him in a few years.

Left under a cloud?

Think you are being unfair. He appears to have been the model professional. Huddersfield fans are sorry he is going, which is a good sign.

I am resigned to us signing Deeney.

I think I'm going to stay off this thread unless he signs for us as it's all becoming boring. And dare I say just a little frustrating and depressing. We're not trying to steal the crown jewels here.

Yes, maybe not the crown jewels but we're trying to pay with lumps of coal.

Huddersfield are doing to us what JP did for many years.

Sadly, our lazy signings over the years are hitting us. Renewing contracts repeatedly like phillips, Barry, hrk rather than invest in new blood is going to hurt.

I cannot believe the criticism of bilic.

He's the best manager we could possibly hope for in the situation that we are currently in.

He identified Pereira.
He identified Diagana.

He spotted Krov.

Tulloch and Richards both signed new contracts when other  bigger clubs were circling.

If you can't see the other players respect him and the youth players look up to him then you're watching the wrong game.

I find it hard to believe the people could criticise him and discuss replacements. He's not been backed.

Yes, he makes the odd decisions at times but he's the best manager we've had for a long long time .

I agree today that sawyrs and livermore as midfield pairing is just not good enough however to criticize him for picking O'Shea rather than Furlong just goes beyond belief.

O'shea is a good defensive right back and we are playing a back four today and not a 5 which had allowed Furlong a good attacking right back to push on. It is obvious why he did this.

If you asked Albion fans who needed moving on, we would all say Phillips, Austin, zohore. And those are the players Bilic has agreed to move on and that is clearly shown by the squads. He gets it. He sees it. But he is limited by a poor squad with a recruiting team constantly cutting corners and taking loans when we need to build for the future.

Robinson was shattered today after 60. Hence HRK. what choice does he have? Robinson ran his socks off. We couldn't keep the ball and were under pressure. I don't want HRK coming on, but what choice does Bilic have?
To criticize a manager with probably the smallest budget we have  ever had in the prem is shameful. Our fans are turning into vile fans who have no patience and wild expectations.

Problem is if we don't sign  a striker this weekend, huddersfield and Watford know they've got us and I don't see prices coming down...

I read somewhere that a prem club wanted a huddersfield CB. If that is different, huddersfield won't need to sell Grant to generate cash.

Surely we must be close. This is agonising

You've been an Albion fan for how long?

And you ask this question. I suspect we are now at the stage of who blinks first...

I would not be surprised to see another club turn their attention to him if they fail to land their targets.  If Sheffield United lose out to Palace on Brewster, for instance, might be an attractive alternative for them, the player, and if the deal is right, for Huddersfield.

This is my worry. We are at the stage now we need it done.

Must be honest, Phillip's offers little for me now. He did some pathetic free kicks. There was one point when livermore and Furlong did more running down the wing than him and he had just come on.

We must have better options than him.

Interesting regarding Grant. Loan with a view will be good. Reckon Zohore going the other way, well hope so!

Sky just mentioned this loan, and buy if we stop up. (Plus Grosicki to Forest has been mentioned online).

I will be disappointed if it is only a loan. We need to sign players - we cannot keep loaning evey year and then try to sign them the year after.

& within 1 season he would hold the record for the most home goals. He hates us nearly as BAD I has i HATE him & the rest of them Villa scum, he's a Big gob to. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

That's brilliant. Really made me chuckle. Spent ages wracking my brains thinking why did Adebayor hate us and then scrolled down to see agbonlawhore

I cannot see that he is anywhere near worth £17m which is allegedly what Huddersfield want for him. From what I've seen he's a run-of-the-mill Championship forward, not particularly fast, with a habit of cutting in from the left and shooting with his right foot.
He's probably a slightly braver and more physical version of Zohore, and how much is Zohore worth?  The fact we seem to be the only club interested in him, says alot. I can't see him setting the Prem League alight, and any fee we pay should reflect that.

Stand to be corrected, but I think Newcastle were interested but lost interest when they signed Wilson.

It’s the smart move really because in fairness he didn’t pull up trees in the second tier of English football. For the board to green light his signing on a permanent basis based upon his previous performances would have been very risky indeed.

Naturally, I want him to do well and our results to improve. I just can’t see that personally, but happy to be proved wrong 👍🏻

Agree with you, I am pleased to see him back. I worry it is very short term. Would like to have seen some kind of purchase offer built in).

More the fact Krov and agent agreed to sign an extension so that Benfica didn't lose out in a year's time on the player value.

The only group to lose out are Albion. If Krov does well, the price goes through the roof and other teams come in. However, if he does that well, that will be good news for us I guess in the short term.

Thought we played okay. Were the more threatening team second half.

Their pen looked a terrible decision. It didnt appear kipre made a challenge and he just dived.

Problem is a lack of penetration. A post earlier talked about Kanu being ineffective and he was totally.

Thought Field was very good. 4 superb clearances on corners. Win the ball frequently.
Gallagher bright but passed the ball poorly at times. Had 3 good chances, didnt get one on target. He isn't the answer.

Two questions: why take off kanu who has scored 2 pens 5 minutes before penalties?
2. I love Bilic but can't we take the cup seriously? It would be so nice to get through to the 5th round draw etc..

The only positive today as a result of no fans in grounds for months is that it will possibly shock championship clubs who had budgeted for fans back. Will it make clubs more flexible in accepting transfer bids. It may work in Albion's favour.

Albion have not budgeted for a return, so our finances do not worsen, as can be seen by the fact we have not offered season tickets. However, this may not be true for other clubs...

We'll sign Grant at the end of the window. I think we will also bring in another striker. I cannot see us going till the next window with our current strikers + 1 new. We need options and to desperately move Zohore and Austin on.

Would you take Austin on? Reportedly on 50kpw... If you watched him play in the cup I am not sure you would...

There's a screenshot doing the rounds of WBA twitter tweeting Trust The Process on 15/9 at 19:00, a play on words of Grant's tweet on 8/9...."Always trust the process".

It looks legit. Apparently, the Wba tweet was deleted shortly after...

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Conor Gallagher
« on: September 15, 2020, 09:37:08 AM »
Gallagher has impressed me whenever i have seen him - he has energy which our central midfield do not have. Our intensity and tempo is very slow and Gallagher will make a difference.  However, even if we sign him, we still lack a mobile DCM...i have come to the conclusion that our problems will be sorted by playing a 5-3-3 formation  ;D

Diagana causes a problem in that we have to have a system that fits in wingers/him.

Personally a 5-4-1 is what we need, but with a diamond 4. Pereira behind the striker and a DCM (Field?) screening the 3 CBs. Could Diagana be played as a LWB? I doubt it and therein is the problem.

Hence the problem Diagana gives us - we have to play a formation to get him wide and i am not sure we have other players that will enable our formation and mobility to work to give him that and have Pereira central. It still keeps coming back to the problem of the lack of a mobile DCM...

Someone said the other day that Diagana may turn out to be a short term problem for us - i.e. would have been better spending £5m each on 3 different players, as opposed to 12m to 18m on Diagana. We have gone for a long term investment that will not help us short term.

What's Klopp got to do with it?

I hope they were suggesting Brewster is being lined up by Sheff Utd...

Grants just put a tweet out which fans believe could be a positive sign for us it was

" Always Trust the process 🙏⏳"

Could be saying that he trusts in prayer and that will resolve the process of Albion taking forever time wise  :D
