General Football & Sports / Re: England Cricket Thread

The next year or so for Woakes is a big point in his career internationally hes now 24 with a first class average of nearly 40 with the bat and the mid twenties with the ball, if the selectors keep overlooking him he could come into Test Cricket far too late.

The problem I see with the bowling department is one the Aussies had with regards to the fact that they just stuck with those established and taking wickets instead of blooding others in.

Australia never looked to blood replacements for Warne and McGrath and just hoped that enough talent would be around when they retired, its this I do not want England to do.

Its great to see Root come through his emergence is reminiscent of when Alistair Cook broke into the Test team, if he goes on to get anywhere near Cooks record then he will have done well.

Theres alot of good players coming through and we need to blood them in to not become stale like Australia did once the older players retired.  Our next big job is to find replacements for Anderson, Swann and more importantly an all rounder in the mould of Big Fred.

Strange line up but one perhaps that could be understood giving fringe players a chance however I would have much rather seen Brown have a place on the bench than the player who is already leaving in the summer.

Thinking about it I am sure Brown in still at school so might not be able to be at midweek games.

The last time Odemwingie played for us was against West Ham he spent his time on the pitch not wanting to pass to his own players, that performance for me was the end of it not his antics in January.

I couldn't careless if hes still payed by the club. If I had done what he did with regards to publically criticising my employer using social media I would have been suspended facing disciplinary action.

Why should he be any different?

Sometimes you have to look beyond football matters only and this for me is one of those times.

Probably cost us 3 points well played mate. You should be proud.

Yep your spot on mate.....Odemwingie would have been so committed and been in the box to defend those crosses that led to Wigans 2nd and 3rd goals.

There were still fans yesterday defending his actions during January and since.

With what happened back in January I still think Clarke should have been less naïve and realised he was passed re-integration.

Odemwingie has a person holds everything about our club with contempt.  Nobody can be surprised at the reactions of the fans especially as the season comes to a close.

I don't think its down to which league your in if that makes sense however financially it might not be beneficial for them.

His hold up play at times was unplayable.

A start in his favoured position and he produces that...hardly rocket science and I still believe he should have been used a lot more this season as a striker.

I hope he stays as we haven't seen anywhere near enough of him.

He has only himself to blame - regardless of whether today's incident was started by himself or supporters. Clarke could do well to realise that he isn't wanted here by the supporters and every time he features it will just create a poisonous atmosphere - he did the right thing in bowing down as Odemwingie was soon forgotten about.

Lets just let him rot and then flog him in the summer if we can. In my opinion, he deserves all the abuse he gets.

I have to say I think Clarke is being very naïve at the moment with regards to Odemwingie he shouldn't be anywhere near the line up.

As for today ive been critical of fans earlier this year but with nothing to play for its about time he knew publically how 95% of us feel.

Spot on Phil hes one of the only referees this season who actually seemed in control of every difficult situation.

The problem with Long is staying fit to be honest if he could do that then the consistancy would come but in my view that is a big ask.

Billy Jones has every chance of getting into the squad if he carries on improving in my view hes still only 26 with alot of experience behind him.

He wont ever be a regular if he does get near the National Squad but he would be decent back up.

Another vindication of our thorough scouting and transfer policy.

Liverpool need to act now and come down hard on Suarez after today...its got to be the last straw.

Both the FA and Liverpool need to join forces and act at what we have seen today as a stance needs to be taken afterall he has scored an equaliser today where he shouldnt even be on the pitch.

If Liverpool fail to discipline their player then the club should also be punished for failing to control their player. Its interesting how sides often get fined etc. in the lower leagues under this rule but once its a big club it becomes alot more infrequent.

No crisis but worrying trend that could be taken into next season.

You saw a glimse at what things could be like without Lukaku and PO today with Long struggling big time up front and generally poor midfield attacking support (pre the sending off).

Where was the pace and the ability to go past players ?

But next season is a new season and we have to be confident after the last few years that those players will be replaced.

I agree with OldburyWBA to say a club like us should have not signed Rosenberg is silly.

His record prior to here was excellent a 1 in 3 forward.

I thought first half we failed to get to grip with Arsenal and to be honest I felt Long looked lightweght at times.

We failed to deal defensively with Rosiky (who is a very very good footballer who has been blighted by injuries), but once we made the changes things started to click.

If it hadnt been for some poor finishing late on in the game we would have come away with something.

On another note Franksy on WM was being is usual egotistical trouble making self...apparently we have only average a point a game since Christmas......oh what a crisis.

Jacko when are you going to finally admit that the situation with Odemmoaner is nowt to do with the club but a player who is getting more and more deluded by the week.

Im glad we have made a stand against him no other club hes played for has had the balls to do it.

Olsson will still be here next season but we need someone to challenge him.

As for Lukaku I still feel theres a twist going to be thrown in somewhere along the line.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Graham Dorrans
« on: March 31, 2013, 05:24:44 PM »
Is it just me or all Odemwingie did yesterday was refuse to pass to a team mate, and if he beat a player he tried for glory instead of creating a chance for others.

For me yesterday it was the most selfish and disgusting of performances.

Dorrans along with others tried to make things happen for the team for the time he was on the pitch.  Odemwingie on the other hand tried to make things happen for himself.

Dorrans since returning to the side has played well, yesterday at times I felt he was poor positionally when he didnt have the ball but when we had position he was always the willing outlet and looked to brings others into play.

Blues have had a very strange season and still only seven points off the play-offs.

I still believe if they had gone for someone like McCarthy they would be in the playoffs even with all the off field problems.

If I was Clarke I would be looking for give him some decent game time between now and the end of the season.

Rosenberg has had a nightmare season but theres no doubt hes got the pedigree to step it up.
