Will they become a Yo-Yo club?

I sincerely hope not. If they drop I'd prefer to see them keep dropping further as I couldn't be doing with seeing them bounce back again. They were largely bloody insufferable around here after beating Derby.

Please God don't let them get Nzonzi.

Very much agreed.

They're as good as down mate.

Oh no, you only went and did it......

Isn't today the last day they can recall him?

All very quiet which is good news surely.

According to what I've read online over the last few days they have until the 27th to recall him.

There is no danger of us taking 5000 anywhere to watch our reserves.

Only because they gave us just under five thousand in the first place.

Again, kindly remember not to make predictions of doom on the Villa thread.

Just in case.

I've never seen or read anything to suggest Nathan has an off attitude. Well, except for on a couple of football forums that is. I understand calls to freeze him out unless he signs but I remember how I was when aged nineteen.

If I felt I was being backed into a corner there's no way on earth I'd have signed a new contract and that's coming from a lifelong Albion supporter.

I suspect many others would have been the same. Further if I thought a pal was being mucked about I'd have backed him up 100% no matter what.

Freezing Nathan out backs him into a corner and potentially sends the wrong message to our other young players currently mulling over contract offers. Very risky game to play.

Agreed you can also add bottles out of every 50/50 and goes down too easily too. Love watching him play though and glad he'll be ours for at least a little while longer.

He may drop a little easily at times but at least it's not on the same level as Floppy Mon down the road. Moreover while tackling isn't the strongest part of his game does not bottle out of every fifty fifty, and actually presses opposition players quite well for the most part.

Lets focus on getting there first then worry about what is needed to survive. As has been stated elsewhere there are far better models to copy than Villa.

Very much agree, one game at a time. Let's leave the other stuff for muppets who book up hotels near Wembley before playing Bradford  ;) .

I've always thought we should leave at least one player up at corners. That said many people's former favourite sly old fox Roy rarely did. It used to drive me barmy. Mr Hodgson hasn't had a bad career though......

His agent is thinking about the Shekels for himself and not NF

He's thinking about both but 'may' have more interest in his own.

Really hope he signs. Looks a more than good player in the making. Very composed. Come on Dara, you know it makes sense.

Mods posting stuff from Facebook complete with disclaimers and the rest of us aren't allowed to swear. Double standards shock!?! Joking aside (and that's all it was - winky) let's just see how things pan out. Personally I'd love to see Nathan stay. Equally while I  understand enticement I'm not entirely sure how an employee (agent) can force his hand regarding his signature. Never mind, we'll see what we see.

I'd heard he was supposed to be a pretty decent ref' but not on that showing. How we had six players booked to their two is completely beyond me. Strange display as though his head wasn't really in it. Grasping a bit here perhaps but I wonder whether he's got loved ones anywhere near the bush fires back home in Australia.

Promising debut from Drinkwater. Nice to see him rekindle the excellent partnership he had with Mahrez at Leicester.

Agreed. I thought he was outstanding. More of the same please.

Pepe Reina to Villa is done.

Outstanding signing.

If he's that good a signing you could try to look less delighted. Have some consideration for those of us who despise the *******

Love to give these a right slapping on Jones's return.

No insult meant to their supporters and quite a few of their games have been closer than results would suggest. But GJ's post match comments tend to blend one eyed bitterness with arrogant delusion, making for often hilarious viewing/reading. He comes across as so up himself it's unreal and nothing's ever his fault. Team selection, tactics, nothing, ever. I'm of the perhaps poorly informed opinion he's a sloping shouldered, condescending two hat.

I see this game being an entertaining one for the neutral with us hopefully gaining all three points. I'm not a fan of GJ following his time here and it's known the board wanted him gone prior to Darren Moore's sacking. I imagine he'll be desperate to get one over us. This would make for an even funnier post match presser from him than usual were we to win.

He's probably a lovely man who'd help an old lady cross the road. I dare say he loves kittens and may go out of his way to save a drowning puppy too. Darren Moore certainly believed in him. But for all of that he just seems so smug and sniffy I'd truly hate for Luton to get anything out of us other than a beating. Come on Albion get into 'em, three points and a full on post match meltdown from Mr Jones please.

.... with rumours of a fee per appearance loan, no point in bringing him on at the very end to use up time. No qualms with his use or lack of, at this stage.

Bang on the money.

Chosen for Sky, but now a 12:30 kickoff on the Saturday, so you can safely plan your day out.............

.......... and do something completely different with your day as it's yet another shyt kick off time. Early kick offs are evil and I generally hate them. The thought of a drum going off like a deranged mortar crew on speed behind me does not fill my heart with joy either. Oh grollocks.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Sam Johnstone
« on: January 06, 2020, 01:03:47 PM »
I'm not.

The question you have to ask is why is he so busy to warrant this nomination.

Not sure which question should come first but having finally read more closely through some in game and post match threads here goes.

Because Sawyers doesn't close down quickly enough? Because Livermore doesn't cover Sawyers sufficiently whilst covering his own spaces over the course of 90+ minutes? Because our centre halves, both individually and collectively, switch off and drift? Because our full backs push on and get caught? Because the full backs currently covering the oft injured Gibbs are relatively inexperienced at this level? Because we don't put games to bed when we're on top and by default give the opposition hope?

And/or......... because opposing teams see Sam Johnstone as weak on shots from distance and fancy their chances? Because of rebounds when failing to deal with initial shots meaning he has to save them all over again thus bloating the overall shot count? Because he punches the ball to dangerous areas on the edge of the box from crosses when he could be catching them thus inviting further pressure?

I'm no goalkeeping coach and have done my best to steer clear of openly criticising our custodian (regular readers will notice that I've left Bartley out of things too.....), but I'd wager all of the above allied to us having an open style will probably have something to do with why he has been kept so busy. If I've missed potential questions please refer to any in game/post match thread for further expert opinion on this topic. I feel sure Charlie Austin, HRK and perhaps Zohore and/or Edwards may feature somewhere along the way.

Beware though as having finally consulted the oracles I'm truly stunned to find we're actually second to 'We Would've Taken More' on goal difference  ;D  ;) .

Having just read yesterday's in game thread I'm absolutely amazed to find nobody's asked for a PM with a link to a stream for the live draw. Slipping lads, slipping  ;) .

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game far more than I am the early start. I'd love a decent run in the Cup to kickstart the second half of the season too. Up for the Cup. COYB  8) .
