This is basically the same team that struggled for a good part of last season. We have made some impressive permanent signings such as Pereira and Diangana but the squad in general is lacking the quality expected to remain in the Premier League.  Without a new owner prepared to invest heavily which we won’t get we are sadly doomed. Most of us would probably prefer a winning Championship side to a struggling one amongst the elite.

Another option, if we haven't signed anyone by the end of Monday, could be Josh King at Bournemouth.

Can we nab Brooks while we're there?

If only ....

We have too as the foreign player deadline is Monday. Very stupid game we are playing.

Could be that Huddersfield are playing the same stupid game. They are desperate for money and there doesn’t seem to be any other interest in the player at the quoted price. It’s time for us to make a Take it or Leave It offer and see if Huddersfield cave in.

What a load of nonsense. He's being stabbed in the front for being utterly inept. If was was half-way competent we - the team we support - would be sitting on three points not one. "He surely reads this forum" is one of the most tin-hat suggestions I've come across. He's lucky the fans were not allowed into the Hawthorns last weekend. He deserves all the criticism he is getting, no more or less than a reflection of his performance, which was terrible.

I respect Bilic’s judgement more than your pathetic assassination

It is high time people stopped stabbing SJ in the back. He isn’t half as bad as many make out. Imagine what all this criticism is doing to his confidence. He surely reads this forum or at least is told about the comments.

Watching the premierleague so far, does any team actually know how to defend?

It seems these days that managers are more interested in having defenders who can have 200 touches per game and play football instead of making sure they can actually defend.

Although Van Dijk can play the ball brilliantly he is also a no nonsense defender who is almost impossible to get past and I think that’s a massive part of why Liverpool will again (unfortunately) romp the league

Look at the great teams over the last 20 years each team who were the best had proper hard defenders; Kompany, Terry, Vidic, Campbell. There doesn’t seem to be many of these about these days and as I say most teams look awful when defending.

Defender first then ‘ball playing defender’ second.

The more poor defenders there are in the league the better. It helps produce more goals, which we all like to see 🤪

This is dragging on far too long. Unless a deal can be done by the weekend I think we should walk away and concentrate on Plan B.

I think a straight loan is a lot better option than any sort of commitment to buy at this point. I have real doubts as to how Krovinovic fits into the team regardless of how we set up.

I agree. Krovinovic has proved to be a solid Championship player but he has never struck me as a game changer. Hopefully he will blossom and prove his worth. It is a pity that there is not an option to buy in the deal.

It could be worse. We could have Kepa of Chelsea in goal and look how much he cost !

With cameras watching every inch of the pitch what the hell was Gibbs thinking to raise his hand like he did? He should be fined heavily.

If we beat Brentford we have got Fulham or Sheff W in the 4th round at home

Can’t grumble at that draw and home again

Very pleased with this signing. He could provide the spark missing in the middle of the park. We just want a couple of goal scoring forwards now.

Brentford at home could be our next round opponents. They are 0-2 up at half time at Southampton

Button is the one who has caught my eye - confident handling and controlling his box. Having said that he has not been under any pressure

We really struggled to get up last season with basically this team. We must be deluded if we think we can survive amongst the big boys with this team. Krovinovic is not going to be the answer as he is too lightweight. I hope Mr Lai was watching. If he is unwilling to invest heavily - if in deed he is in a position to do so - then his millions will vanish quickly down the pan. We really need an owner with an interest in football who is willing to speculate to accumulate. But the chances of finding one must be nil. Leeds last night looked two classes above us.

Villa have had a £16m offer, rising to £20m for Arsenal reserve keeper Emiliano Martinez. I wish we had their open cheque book.
