West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Kamil Grosicki

So all we are saving is his wages. Are we really that desperate?

Was it a loan deal or Perm?

I don't see the issue personally. Yes it was late by seconds by the sounds of it not by hours. I'm sure this could have been pushed through without a word getting out. It's the player himself I feel sorry for.

In the latest Albion roundup Madeley says if the deal doesn't go through he can be added to squad as we only used 24 spaces.

Lets hope he stays. If not does anyone see us dipping into the freebie market?

Has Roberto Rios retired yet?

He retired as soon as we registered our interest. :D

Slav has made some of the changes that people have been clamouring for. Looks a good line up. I can only assume Gibbs is injured again.

Butland to Palace on the move. 500k + Bonuses according to Nixon  :o

They have 3 keepers already. All 3 are arguably better than Johnstone too!

Criminal if true. Does Slav really not rate him or are we desperate for the money?

Madness if we let him go and keep Edwards and Phillips in match day squads.

I think we are both sort of saying the same thing. We need to tighten up at the back (going to a back 4 would help this along with a 3 man midfield) and we need a striker.

Just because we scored loads in the EFl doesn't mean we will in the EPL though. Teams tend to score 50% or so less goals in the EPL than they did in the Championship.

I just hope the goals continue to be spread about the team with Grant contributing about 10 or so.

That's quite concerning actually. We scored 77 last season so that equates to 38.5 goals by that logic. That said 4 teams survived with 39 goals and under last season.

Back to Grant I think there is going to be enormous pressure on him to deliver. A little unfair considering his lack of experience at this level which is why I hope we can bring in someone alongside of him.

It's a tad too soon to be quoting scoring percentages and especially when you compare ours over 4 games (2 in which we haven't scored) against 11 other sides after a full season.

I'm not sure why you would say we desperately need a striker yet that we are not crying out for goals? I'd have thought the two things are linked surely?

I agree but unless we tighten up at the back then we aren't going to win many games. We conceded far too many last season with the same personnel. Our hopes rest on Ivanovic but there is only so much he can do.

We are desperate for a new striker as none of the ones we have are capable of playing at this level IMO. I'm thinking of overall play and not just necessarily goals scored. I'd take Deeney for example who doesn't score many but would benefit others playing around him. If as expected we do go down it won't be through lack of goals scored.

I think O'Shea will become another Craig Dawson - unspectacular but will establish himself in the lower end of the Prem. Ajayi will be OK too. The rest nowhere near good enough IMO. Ferguson has a lot of potential but will have to see how the injury has affected him.

so in a team crying out for goals you'd have spent the money on a left back and defensive midfielder?

Odemwingie was a converted winger too. (not comparing them, just saying)

We desperately need a striker but we are hardly crying out for goals. Our main problems are further back especially in goal IMO.

Incidentally we are currently on 1.25 goals per game. This is better than 11 other sides managed in the Prem last season.

Goals against however is 3.25 per game. Norwich had the worst record last season at just I under 2!

I don't know why anyone would believe that but they did. Dumbfounded to this day about it.

Agreed. We may see a few more clubs desperately selling next summer if the crowds don't return but it was never going to happen this year. The later you do your business the more desperate you become. We never learn.

I think the implication is they should have just paid the £12 million as soon as the window opened,  what with him reportedly being Bilić no. 1 target... A monitoring department special.

I suspect they were fooled into thinking there may be some 'Covid Bargains' to be had the longer we waited.

Didn’t he play in a 2 v Harrogate. He was awful again that night. The bloke can’t run and seems to have lost the knack of being in the right place at the right time. Get rid.

Question is, will and can Slav play Grant on Monday against Burnley?

I think Austin will start on Monday with Grant on the bench. I'd prefer to see Grosicki up there. I'm sure he's played up front for Hull in the past.

Assuming Robinson doesn't play and Grant is signed.

               Furlong                 Ajayi                     Ivanovic           Gibbs

                              Livermore              Gallagher                  Krovinovic

                           Periera                   Grant                   Diangana

Subs: Button, Bartley, Townsend, Field, Sawyers, Austin, Edwards.

If Robinson is fit then he starts in place of Grant who takes Austin's place on the bench.

I like this side. The bench really does show how little strength in depth we have.

To me Watkins qualities were obvious well before his Liverpool hattrick. If Grant scores a hattrick against Liverpool , I'll be more than happy to withdraw my comment. Or indeed if he scores a hattrick against anyone. I also think Billic is on the record as saying he rates Watkins highly.

Watkins had plenty of suitors before joining the Vile. No one else has been interested in Grant as far as we know. Says a lot really.

I hope he joins as he can't be any worse than what we have but I hope he is followed in by another striker who can give us a different option.

I’m pretty sure Bilic tried to sign him for West Ham in the past. He’s one player who can play at this level IMO.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Slaven Bilic
« on: October 07, 2020, 01:20:33 PM »
Bilic isn't perfect but this squad is dire. I don't see how it can possibly survive without reverting to a Pulis esque style. We just don't have enough quality.

That said with 11 men at Everton and better options off the bench v Chelsea we could quite easily be sat here with 4 points. Level with Man City and above Manure.

I predicted 20th place a few weeks ago and this pathetic window has pretty much confirmed this for me. There are some quality players in the EFL that we could still sign but unfortunately they cost money.

I’m glad he’s staying but seems to me like we haven’t got a replacement lined up so can’t let him go.

Are we really pinning all of our hopes on a guy with only 13 Prem apps to his name?
