Played very well today. Credit where it is due. Hopefully give him some confidence.

We've got them in Austin and Hegazi but it won't make a difference if we don't see a shift in the way we are trying to attack.

Also, the people calling for 442 obviously don't watch much football. It's an outdated formation that nobody plays and we've looked appalling every time we've tried playing it in recent years. Fulham and Leeds play with one striker, as did Norwich and Villa last season, there's nothing wrong with it and if people think our problems will suddenly be fixed by chucking another sriker on then they are going to be disappointed.
Agree with this. Nothing wrong with the formation. We need to move the ball quicker and be a bit more direct. Final ball needs to improve but most of all we need to commit more bodies forward when attacking. Too often Zohore was on his own in the box again today.

I still cant believe we've gone into the season with Austin and Zohore as our only real striking options. Gayle and JRod would have buried that chance at the end.

Early days still but I agree we do look a little bit light up front. Lets hope we can keep in touch until January and make the necessary signings to see us over the line. A goalscorer and new keeper a must for me.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Worst goals conceded last season?
« on: August 21, 2019, 01:28:12 PM »
We conceded a fair few poor goals even when we did stop playing from the back. Problems for me were no protection from midfield and poor personnel. Midfield certainly looks a lot stronger now. Bartley has improved slightly but both him and Johnstone are an accident waiting to happen IMO.

« on: August 16, 2019, 05:28:21 PM »
I like Hegazi but is he going to solve all of our problems? For me no. He's been part of a defence that has shipped goals for fun over the last 2 seasons. A new keeper would see a vast improvement IMO.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Chris Brunt
« on: August 16, 2019, 05:26:22 PM »
The term 'Legend' is banded around far too easily IMO. Brunt is not a legend. He was a very good footballer (unfortunately past it now) and has served this club well. Similarly the term 'loyal' is too. Is Brunt loyal? I'd say no. The facts are he's played for a football club that has spent most of his time here in the top flight. He's played regularly with a good percentage as captain. Above all he's been exceptionally well paid for the privilege. I don't recall offers from bigger clubs for his services either. He's had is good here so there was never an incentive to move on. Fair play to him.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: The Barcode Shirt...
« on: August 15, 2019, 02:16:44 PM »
I meant if anybody had one of the copies lol, i wasnt expecting one of the originals lol!

You still see them regularly on Ebay. I have the original still but then I've kept every shirt I've ever had since the early 80's.

I think we've had a pretty decent window overall but the lack of decent striking options is worrying. We've had all summer to sort this out.

Whilst we have Johnstone and/or Bartley in the side we will fail to keep clean sheets on a regular basis.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Kenneth Zohore joins WBA
« on: August 12, 2019, 01:13:29 PM »
I think it was a bit of a strange signing too especially for the reported fee. His goalscoring record is very average. We definitely needed more of a target man in the squad. I'd have liked to see us go for someone like Jutkiewicz at Blues instead. Would have got him on the cheap and I honestly think he'll score more than Zohore will this season.

No Gayle in the Newcastle match squad

Injured I think. Let's hope we make another attempt to sign him in January.

I honestly thought we'd have seen a new keeper signed this summer. Johnstone is the main problem of our defensive issues for me.

Everything that's wrong about English football. Seems if you are big and have plenty of pace you have more chance of making it as opposed to the more technical side. Seems Burke is a prime example.

It was a poor bench selection for me today. Nothing on there to change the game. One or two of the new lads could have made an impact.

If it means the end of Brunt as a CM then it can only be a good thing.

Good to see that we now have 2 players for each position. Great competition. In the past players have been too comfortable and picked regardless of form.

not sure why but my previous comment was deleted.

think this is disappointing so far, was expecting a sell out easily with it being first home game, saturday, 3pm, and £20 a ticket.

Prime holiday season. Like myself a lot of people will be away.

A good move for him one that should have happened a year or two ago. Still not convinced he'll make it with us though.

On the outs for me. You have to assume he's also behind Brunt who Slaven mentioned despite not being in the squad.

Desperate times if you are behind Brunt for a CM slot. I do agree though with letting him go. He's a tidy player but doesn't really do anything that well IMO.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Midfield control
« on: August 03, 2019, 08:16:11 PM »
It was great to see some legs in there today and actually see us playing through midfield. For me games are won and lost in there and looked far stronger today. Hopefully we've see the last of Brunt being shoe horned in there.

Hasn't he been relegated with every side he's played for in the top flight? If so let him go there.  ;D

Sell Livermore (£7m?), give Barry a one-year contract (£15k/week max) and retain Field rather than sending him on loan. Use the £6m net extra to boost the striking budget or to buy Holgate.

I still have a feeling that someone may come in for him. Wasn't it Palace that were interested not too long ago? If we could shift him it would be great business and money towards a striker.

Had Brunt been released then yes I'd have like to seen Barry stay for another year. However I don't think we can carry two oldies in the squad any more. Time for the younger players to come through.

« on: July 25, 2019, 10:00:46 PM »
That's starting to look half decent,  but I hope Harper and Field don't get frozen out though. But we must get a regular goalscorer up top. Maybe Zohore will regain a bit of his best form, but when you think how many goals Gayle and JayRod scored, there's quite a shortfall to make up.

With Sawyers looking likely I think we'll see one of the CM's moved on. My guess will be Field who just doesn't look good enough for me. We may even see someone daft enough to take Livermore off our hands.
