West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Kieran Gibbs

Injury record for us vastly overblown.

He played 33 and 38 games in the last two seasons - the latter really surprised me.

However, 14 this season is a worry.

Slav ready to listen to offers for Gibbs according to the Perce.

Surprising, but can’t blame him - I like him as a player but there are simply too many injuries. I physically can’t see him ever playing a full season.

Also mentioned Burke and Zohore, too (no surprise there).

Nice one, cheers!

Birmingham have just announced that they are going to retire the 22 shirt with Jude Bellingham leaving.

I mean, he's a wonderful talent, but come on...  ???

I wasn’t sure where to put this but thought I’d try it here.

John Percy, who has been quiet on writing and reporting Albion information these last few months, has just published an article on the Telegraph which seems to have an inside track on things these last few months.

However, it’s behind the paywall  :( anybody got access to copy and paste on here?

Fantastic last night I thought. Hustled, pressed, won tackles.

That interview though, it looked as if he was mentally exhausted with the pressure as he repeated 'relief' over and over again.

To be honest though, relief was my overriding emotion at the final whistle.

Good luck to Brunty. He made a solid cameo last night; put in a wicked delivery and offered a good range of composure and passing. I still think that he has been underused in these last few weeks and was hoping and praying that he had one more magic moment in his locker.

Move to Stoke all looks done according to the rumours.

Good luck, Brunty - a great way to bow out.

Barmy unbalanced team selection. Trepidation increased...

Cannot believe that team - now is not the time for trying new things and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Look, many fans wanted Robinson up top but when was the last time he played there? We certainly haven’t seen it.

Dropping Hegazi scares me too.

Hope I’m wrong and it’s all fine though!

9
Austin to start for me HRK is a better bet off the bench with 20 minutes to go with his energy

Agree with the fact that we can only realistically start Austin, but Hal isn't the man to come on if we actually need a goal...  :-X

10
Simply cannot believe we have a second chance - unbelievable fortune!

Nothing silly; nothing experimental here.

Go back to the 433 where we have shown our best form.

Johnstone

O'Shea
Ajayi
Hegazi
Gibbs (If fit - if not, Townsend)

Saywers (but he MUST be better)
Livermore
Krov

Pereria
Austin (Only one I'm confident of finishing a chance)
Grosicki

Diangana is much more effective coming off from the bench with tired legs. Think Brunt could have a roll to play too.

I think some severely under-estimate the ground that Sawyers covers to make himself available to receive and pop off passes which has been pretty integral to the way we've played this year. If you think Brunt can do the same at this stage then that's interesting.

Brunt may have been underused in terms of 15 or 20 minutes off the bench but not as a starting CM in what for the most part has been a two man midfield.

I like Sawyers and he does some important work for the team. However, his form and nosedived even before lockdown. Yesterday, his passing - his main strength - was absolutely woeful. He lost the ball continuously in dangerous areas, setting them up for counter attacking opportunities. It only added to the panic. Just to add as well, when we needed to up the urgency, especially in the last 15, he slowed the play down with too many extra touches.

Everybody could see yesterday that although I wouldn't say Livermore was brilliant, we needed him to stay on the pitch. We had no bite, no leadership and no direction in that midfield battle when he went off and it cost us. Big time.

My point with Brunty wasn't necessarily that he should have started more over Sawyers; my point was that he should have been involved in times when his experience, calmness on the ball and leadership qualities were needed. I would also say that his more direct balls to the frontline would have helped us more yesterday.

Severely underused since we've returned from lockdown.

His composure on the ball and calmness got us through that Hull game. The Blackburn game was screaming at him to calm proceedings and push us to get up the pitch to win the game. And I wouldn't have took Livermore off yesterday (Sawyers HAD to go - he lost the plot with his passing) but Brunt would have helped in that midfield.

Doubtful, but I hope he has one more big moment left in him.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - don’t expect one favour from anybody. It isn’t happening.

We need to beat Hudd and QPR. 6 points. Simple as that.

The fact that we still have over four hours to kick off and there are four pages to this thread tells you everything.

Nervous - and once again, the first goal is huge.

We've got to have the mentality to win the game but a draw is a positive result.

He wasn't the sole reason why we appeared to be a different team in the last 20 but there is no doubt that he was the wrong sub.

Taking Livermore off led us to lose the midfield battle. If we had to take him off, Brunt was the sub. He would have retained composure and control. We just became the definition of a headless chicken - panicked, hitting balls out of play, all charging to the ball. It nearly lost us the game - probably should have.

On the positive side it should incentivize Preston who play Brentford next

I see your point but we have had teams with something to play for playing against our rivals and they've done absolutely nothing - not even a draw.

Expect no favours. We must earn this promotion ourselves. Simple.

One change.

Krov in for Grady (who is on the bench).

May be a shift to 433 to match Blackburn or shifting Pereria to the right.

How many will we win by 2/3/4? I’ll go 1-4 to us

This a much tougher game than you think. Blackburn are Jekyll and Hyde; they are brilliant one game, then not the next.

Dack, Armstrong, Holtby - these are extremely dangerous players. Mulgrew's set pieces, too.

We need to be at our best and a performance like Derby should see us over the line.

Strangely a Fulham win gives Swansea impetus to overtake rivals Cardiff tomorrow with a win against Leeds and get into the playoff picture depending on other results

It also gives Blackburn impetus to beat us tomorrow.

Stipulations everywhere you look.

Should have thought much more carefully about relying on Stoke to give you a hand  ::)

We move onto Blackburn. Can’t see Leeds or Brentford letting up here.

Somebody else said he's a 7/10 every game and that's spot on. Solid 1 v 1 defender, another asset on defensive/offensive set pieces and he appears really grounded and ready to learn.

I was worried that his offensive play would restrict us, but he has delivered some lovely deep crosses into the box - although, we don't really have the height or the players to realistically score from that type of play.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Kamil Grosicki
« on: July 09, 2020, 11:34:07 AM »
He looks so, so dangerous. His first though - every time he receives the ball - is to run at defenders and get a cross/shot away. Pushes defenders back and certainly panics teams.

My only criticism of him yesterday is that his decision making in the final third wasn't great. Although he got an assist, the amount of times he got to the byline or cut in to get a shot away - all from his own good play - were in double figures.

No doubt, he's pushed us on these last few games.

24
Much better from Grady. I was desperately worried about him in the games since we've returned - looked off the pace, not too interested, poor body language.

However, much, much better. Some of the skill and close-control that he displayed, when taking on Hull players, in his cameo was wonderful; the only way they could stop him was by scything him down.

Deserved his goal too. More of this please!

It will be like Pulis days with Hull at the Shrine today - Park the bus and every Hull player behind the ball looking for a quick breakaway and at least one point.  Bit like Blouse did against us.

It certainly will and I don't blame them one bit - we'd do the same if we were in their position. We've also proved that we're naff playing against teams who operate that way. Up to us to break them down.

Early goal is key!
