I'm still going to stick my neck out and suggest Micky Mellon as the +1 - waiting for after the Tranmere PO final :D

I mentioned Micky Mellon the other day - I'd like someone without a recent connection but he's been away a while - his Tranmere team looked reasonably impressive against FGR and he's made the play offs 3 seasons running so has a winning mentality, maybe we're waiting for the play offs to be over - btw I hope he loses the PO final to Newport ;D

If we're going to consider Hughton, surely Moyes must be in the frame then ;D

yet another premier league ref dishing cards out like confetti - why don't they use the regular refs from throughout the season????

I'd fancy the Vile to beat Derby but not Leeds unfortunately

Hughton - not for me - gets into negative/defensive mode too easily, think we should look at somebody up and coming who wants to make a name for themselves - we need to be brave

Disappointed to lose to the Vile, over 2 legs some things didn't possibly go our way. Negative tactics maybe at Vile park after taking the lead but heyho. Personally I don't think we're good enough/ready for the PL in our situation, aging players, too many loans and younger players who don't seem to get that much of a chance.
I still think Leeds will go up, I just think it's their turn, funny how things sometimes pan out.
What we must do now, is appoint somebody [new} hopefully and start afresh.

I know I've said I think we need someone without Albion connections but what about Micky Mellon now at Tranmere, 3 play offs in 3 years, a mix bag of players but knocking it about nicely at FGR with a few long range strikes thrown in - maybe an outside shout especially if we're looking at a cheap option and recruiting cheap from the lower leagues  8)

A big well done to my missus' team Newport County [my second team] on reaching the L2 playoff final after beating Mansfield on pens - they were in 10th place in L2 until the 87th min of their last game when they equalised against Morecambe.
However, I do sometimes wonder about the play offs - perhaps if the 2 legs finish tied the higher placed team should progress instead of penalties in the absence of the away goals rule???

Calmed down at bit now since Saturday. We have nothing to lose. Spuds won from behind minus their better strikers, Liverpool managed it without theirs - this is a tough ask but what an opportunity for someone maybe one of our younger ones to make a name for themselves - we've just got to go for it

I don't remember us being any different in 40odd years or more - model club we were known as, perhaps we need to get with the times - if you can't beat 'em join 'em - seems the way of the world now not just football

I've thought for most of the season we weren't good enough to go up and recruitment generally with loanees, old experienced pro's and a few kids isn't a great footing for if we did progress, for without serious investment we'd probably be whipping boys. Remember we've lost something like a quarter of the games even in this league.
Recruitment has to be better, which is why I think we need to change and rebuild. Norwich got Pukki on a free or minimal payment, Sheff Utd are a workmanlike team without any real stars, Huddersfield got up, so I think it can be done. The Championship is unforgiving, you only have to look at the sides in the division who have been there for a few years, Forest, Leeds, Sheff Weds, Blackburn etc we have to hope we don't do a Sunderland

Irrespective of what happens next Tuesday, we need to change direction. If that means a few seasons in the championship then so be it - we need a clear out and/or a complete change of policy - for me that means a new start, no Appleton or anybody else with recent roots at the club - just my opinion

Why do so called Premier League refs get the Championship play-off games? You play 46 games at a certain level/style and then get reffed by a clown when it matters. Not sour grapes it's the same watching the Derby/Leeds game - its a different game in the poncy PL completely.

19
Can't see us winning by 2 clear goals against the crap from this position without Gayle {no away goals rule in the play-offs} but stranger things have happened. Maybe penalties will decide it?

20
Alan Merrick for me but my parents always used to swear by Maurice Setters

I was referring to the general performance of the ref during the game - not for that particular incident - sorry if it read like that

kicking off at Elland Road - Leeds score after Villa stop playing for an injured player, El Ghazi sent off 3 game ban - Bamford not even touched so probably rescinded , then Leeds let Villa score on the restart - manic - ref lost control

What has Appleton done to suggest he should be our manager?
the players probably like him, he knows the club, and he's cheap - easy really :D
nothing against Appy but for me all those are the wrong reasons - we need a complete change of direction
