Somewhere between 1,500 - 1,650 I think.

I do think it''s a shame we appear to be restricting the away support to a max of around 2000 seats.

Appreciate for many Championship clubs that will be more than enough but for the likes of Cardiff, Leeds, Blues, Sheff Wed etc, etc, it seems a shame to restrict allocations when the bigger away support turnouts really enhance the whole stadium atmosphere.

Also as an Albion away fan travelling to an away stadium, I'd be a bit hacked off to see loads of empty seats covered by advertising if it meant many Albion fans had missed out due to a restricted allocation.

I think 2000 is enough mate. There was no lack of atmosphere last Saturday, it was the best it's been since the Villa play off game. We need more atmospheres like that.

Away fans aren't allowed in the home stands though so he was a bit of an idiot for wearing his shirt.

Yep and once you allow one to do it .................... .

The guy is 36 years old not 15, no excuse for not knowing better.

The website from the very first post on the topic ( https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/championship/attendances ) gives our average attendance so far this season as 23,723. For 2018/19 it's 24,198.

The 23,723 figure is also given by the Birmingham Mail here https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-brom-attendance-leeds-forest-14835716

The 24,198 figure also given here https://www.worldfootball.net/attendance/eng-championship-2018-2019/1/ and here https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsbirmingham/how-west-broms-crowds-this-season-compare-to-aston-villa-birmingham-city-leeds-and-more-rivals/ar-BBM0CLt

So that would put it down from last season.

Those figures are wrong.

I'm not going through all last seasons figures but this season:

Millwall 24,305
Reading 21,803
Blackburn 23,792
Hudds 23,977 (amended from original figure confirmed by Tony Matthews)
Cardiff 25,140

Average: 23,803

I don't even entertain coming to the 'prestige" games because I feel that the chance of getting adjacent tickets is too remote for a 'casual'

I would love to get tickets for me and my mate in the Smethwick but there is zero chance of that, when we do come nowadays its in the east stand and against the less fashionable / successful opponents.

I know full well that we are not typical but i imagine that there are quite a few casuals who are put off by the size of the stadium.

Question (for I imagine Atomic), if you take out restricted view and boxes etc, how many "available" seats are there in the ground?

The working capacity this season on figures should be 23,691 (home areas only). There are around a couple of hundred restricted view seats taking it to 23,490 ish. There maybe the odd damaged seat etc, then reserved seats for scouts etc. Not sure on the exact number of season ticket holders but it's around 18,200.

Hope that helps.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Our average attendance is down so far from last season, while the three promoted teams (Vile, Norwich, Sheff Utd) were all ahead of us in the table. The three teams that came down, Cardiff, Huddersfield, and Fulham all have smaller grounds and smaller followings.

We've essentially gone up 3 places by default.

No it isn't. Our average last season in league games was 23,024. This year so far it is 23,803. Average home attendance 22,187 last season, this season 22,426 so far. Worth baring in mind also that the away allocation is down this season plus we've lost a local Derby with Villa going up.

I will completely understand if Slaven chooses not to change a winning top of the table team but personally I'd bring Hegazi straight in. My team:

                           Johnstone

Furlong        Ajayi               Hegazi            Ferguson

                  Livermore        Sawyers

Phillips                 Pereira                          Diangana

                           Austin

Subs: Bond, Townsend, Bartley, Krovinovic, Edwards, Robson-Kanu, Zohore.

Gibbs will be on the bench ahead of Townsend though.

They did well against City last season. The way Wolves play suits playing the likes of Man City. Lesser clubs at home, for example, they tend to struggle against more. Huddersfield did the double over them last season.

I watched the Man Utd game earlier and they were woeful, easily being the worst Man Utd side in my lifetime.
It will take a long, long time until they can even start to think about being where they once were.

Great isn't it? Spurs are in a sharp decline also, even Man City have lost their aura of invincibility. Chelsea and Arsenal are decent but not outstanding. Now is a great time for "normal" clubs to be in the Premier League the top six is definitely achievable this season and someone could break into the top four.

Is top flight football finally getting back to how it should be and how it used to be? Is the playing field levelling out?

And all capable of being responsible for an error due to the position they play...that’s my point .
Very hard for Matt Phillips to be responsible for conceding a goal...
Easier for Bartley/ajayi/Hegazi, much easier for Johnstone

He's not good enough he makes too many costly errors. Ajayi may have been culpable for two or three goals this season, Bartley has been culpable for five or six - that is the difference. When you add up all those errors from last season as well it's obvious that Bartley is not consistently good enough to be a starter in a team challenging for the top two.

In the nicest possible way....that’s rubbish on 2 points

1) he’s been very good this season, there will always be an error because he’s a defender and he’s not at Juventus

Ahmed Hegazi is a defender who doesn't make the errors he does, he isn't at Juventus
Semi Ajayi is a defender who doesn't make the errors he does, he isn't at Juventus
Nathan Ferguson is a defender who doesn't make the errors he does, he isn't at Juventus

Suspension is the most likely scenario if he keeps taking one for the team and the corresponding yellow card

Interestingly Jake has only picked up one booking this season. Sawyers has most bookings, 4.

With the dust settled, me having sobered up and having time to look back at footage of the game I have concerns about the goals we conceded. On another day that might cost us.

First one, there is a mix up in midfield but Ajayi and Bartley just don't deal with the runner at all. There has to be communication here, Bartley has to be yelling to Ajayi to go with the man, Bartley has the better overall view of the situation. Ajayi just doesn't seem to know what to do he just stands there and does nothing. Bartley, sensing that Ajayi is not set to cover the run has to get across quicker, instead he sort of ambles across. Poor defending all round.

Second one, free header from a corner. That is never good enough. Ajayi appears to be the closest man to the goalscorer, though the camera angle isn't the best.

I know we will concede goals but in a game like yesterday, 3-0 up at home and the much better side, it shouldn't be happening. One, OK but not two, we nearly threw away a game we'd got won.

Given the nature of the goals we conceded I believe we lost our focus once the third goal went in, lost our mental sharpness. Something that needs addressing moving forward and I'm sure Slaven's had a word or two.

I thought he was really good yesterday and started to think last night who would replace him if injured or suspended. I’m not sure what the obvious player would be without Sam Field in the squad.

I don’t think it could be Brunt, Harper is out the team by a distance. Maybe Barry if he has any games left in him?

I've wondered about that as well. We don't seem to have a like for like replacement, Sam Field would've been the obvious one. I hope Jake stays fit and in form because he plays an important role and I think it could have an affect on the team if he's missing.

I think Barry would be ideal cover for Sawyers more so than Livermore and I could see Krovinovic covering for Romaine as well.

Brunt doesn't have the legs and Harper I just don't think is that good.

If I was Slaven I'd be bringing Field back in January and sending Harper out on loan. But what do I know? lol.

For the record:

Attendance: 25,140
Home: 23,155
Away: 1,985

Largest gate of the season, most home fans of the season, most away fans also.

Great result again.

I actually didn't think we played all that great but we have goals in us all over the pitch. Thought we started sloppily for the first ten mins or so then improved then went sloppy start of the second half before losing our focus once we scored the third goal. I'm sure there will be aspects of the performance Slaven won't be happy about.

Having said the above, we were clearly the better side. Great to see Austin break his duck, when the keeper pulled off that save with his foot first half you just thought someone had put a jinx on Charlie but the took his goal well. Livermore and Sawyers had their best games for us today I thought and Pereira is absolutely awesome.

We are the Albion, we're top of the league.  8)

How many tickets do we have in home sections mate ? Roughly 23,700? If u took out the 2800 in the away section ?

Approx. 23,500 ignoring restricted view seats which only go on sale for sell outs really. There are 204 seats at the front of the East Stand not used now due to extra advertising.

Wonder why we’ve only given them 2000 instead of the 2800 full away allocation . Really don’t think it’s down to the police as they really aren’t that bothered anymore. Maybe the advert in the stand is worth more then the 800 tickets  :D

Yep that's what it is. Jenkins (I think) decided it was more cost effective to have that advertising and cut the away allocation.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Jonathan Leko (on loan at Charlton)
« on: October 04, 2019, 08:53:10 AM »
One point here, Leko is NOT lightening quick. He's not slow by any means but he's not blistering either, he wouldn't be as quick as Matt Phillips or Semi Ajayi nor probably Kyle Edwards and he certainly isn't as quick as Oliver Burke.

Hopefully he can perform well enough at Charlton for someone to come in and make us a decent offer. He will never be good enough for us unless we become a mid-lower Championship club IMO.
