For what it's worth I thought the challenge merited an orange card sort of between a yellow and a red. I wasnt shocked that Fisher got sent off so I'm a bit surprised it got rescinded.

I'd be a lot happier if Sawyers was available and we could field our first choice midfield. Harper did OK the other night but we definitely lose a fair bit with Livermore having to play in Sawyers' role.

Although we won comfortably enough the teams performance level wasn't as high as it had been in the previous three or four matches.

Won't be easy that's for sure.

Trouble is, currently these three are not our players which is worrying.
We need to sign these players on a permanent basis in the summer.

Each one of them seem very happy playing for us and contribute greatly to both our performances not to mention team spirit.

Pereira will be ours soon enough mate. You have a good point about the other two though.

No dilemma with Gibbs, he comes in for Townsend, no arguments about that, easily fixed.

Not sure who you would drop when Diangana is fit, perhaps he should be on the bench until someone is injured or suspended (hopefully not though!). Can come on as an impact player until he fully regains match fitness then it is up to Slav whether he starts or not.

No way does Gibbs deserve to come back in. He's started ten times this season and in those ten games we've kept one clean sheet.

Players should be picked on merit and Townsend 100% deserves to keep his place.

Similarly when Diangana is fit. People keep saying he comes back into the team. No he doesn't not the way it's functioning right now. Who do you leave out for him? No one deserves dropping at this moment in time.

Players who haven't got a shirt are going to have to wait for a chance.

I do not understand how anybody, anywhere thinks Bartley is better than Hegazi.

The outfield ten of:

O'Shea    Ajayi  Hegazi     Townsend

  Livermore Sawyers    Krovinovic

Pereira           Kanu          Robinson

Should not be touched again this season, baring injuries / suspension.

It's taken three quarters of a season and a January transfer window but now Bilic has his best team - and for that matter, probably bench.

We had to make one change tonight with Harper coming in for Sawyers and Ok as Harper did we lost 5% of our midfield dynamism with Livermore having to move central. We lose the energy on the right side and we lose the start of the high press which has been the catalyst to the quality of our performances of late.

Today we had to play slightly differently but this team now can do pretty much anything at this level it can adapt to the way different teams play and we have what other teams don't which is genuine quality in the forward areas. If Pereira doesn't get you, Robinson will, if he doesn't Kanu will, if he doesn't Krovinovic will - then you have Jake as a force box to box. We're not needing Bilic's subs to rescue us like earlier in the season, or dodgy late penalties etc, we're now controlling games.

The defence now looks much more like it. One shot on target we've conceded in 200 minutes.

Did what we had to do tonight. Preston looked useful but with absolutely no threat going forward baring one header wide first half.

We look the real deal now but part of me still expects us to mess up against Wigan on Saturday. This is what Albion generally do. Maybe not THIS Albion ............ we'll see.

I don't buy these everyone is bad theories for half a second. We had the same with Luton, Millwall and Forest. All of them particularly poor according to some people.

All these dire performances coincide with our switch to 4-3-3, our inclusion of O'Shea at right back, our introduction of Pereira and Robinson as wide forwards at the expense of the average Phillips and the sub standard Edwards, the new box to box role for Livermore and the emergence of a now settled in Krovinovic.

The last four or five games we have looked a seriously good team at this level. Other teams don't look great because we don't let them, they cant cope with us at the moment.

In typical Albion fashion we will probably throw in a shocker tomorrow night. Wouldn't be Albion otherwise would it?   ;)

Could easily be Sawyers... :-X

Just thinking exactly the same thing.  >:(

15
I would just bring in Brunt to replace Sawyers. Straight swap. We don't want to be messing about with the team.

5.5-6/10, had absolutely nothing to do but still managed to skew a clearance straight up in the air.

One? That is worth less than 6 out of 10?

. As i posted elsewhere I feel Townsend's actually a better defender than Gibbs.

Comfortably.

Bit of a weird back and forth, especially based on yesterday, when in a game that everybody aside from Johnstone got at least a 7 out of 10 (even our Jake who frankly was excellent) Townsend was probably the worst of our 10 outfield players.

Gibbs is far better than him, it's not even debatable.

Our worst outfield player was Sawyers easily.

I sometimes wonder if people have eyes I really do.

I've said the two most over rated players at the club are Gibbs and Phillips. Neither of them in the starting line up now and look at us.

He has been solid at best, but for whatever reason you have a bizarre love for the guy and dislike of Gibbs.

No. I want what is best for West Bromwich Albion Football Club simple as that and at the moment we're looking the real deal.

I'm chuffed to bits. Bring on Preston.

:-X

Not quite sure what I would be wrong about here? One is a defender good enough to make the England squad and still operates at a high level with his injury coinciding with us going on a painful winless streak, the other has now hit his peak by being 'solid' for us.

Always happy to admit when I am wrong, but in this instance, I am not.

Michael Ricketts played for England once. And your winless streak argument just doesn't hold credibility now does it? I wouldn't even try to qualify that comment if I were you.

It's getting silly now mate. Townsend has been the best left back in the league for the last month.

Yes...

Townsend has improved, but he is still nowhere near the same level and never will be.

Trust you. Come on be a big enough man to admit you got it wrong. I've done it with Livermore. Come on surely you're big enough to do the same.

Superb again yesterday. Is there anyone left out there that still thinks Gibbs should walk back into the team? REALLY?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Dara O'Shea
« on: February 23, 2020, 02:28:25 PM »
Clearly a centre back playing right back but he's certainly helped add solidarity to the side which was crucial. Unlike Ferguson who will have his career at right back, O'Shea will surely eventually move back to centre back though. And a very good one he could be.

A shame how the Ferguson situation has played out really because these two really could be two premier league standard defenders produced by our academy for the back four.

Ferguson was extremely lucky. He got his break in Spain in pre-season when we were short of players with O'Shea and Fitzwater at centre back. Nyom didnt want to know and was pulled at half time giving Ferguson his break. He did well and Bilic kept faith in him.

To repay Bilic the way he has is a disgrace whoever he has advising him. I will be glad when he has moved out of the club.

Now it's O'Shea who has got his break and he's better than Ferguson anyway IMO so it's worked out well for Albion.

Funny how football works sometimes.

Great performance by Fury. Exposed Wilder for what he is a one trick pony. Fury v Joshua will sell out inside half an hour.

Fury would mesmerise Joshua. Easy nights work.
