14/15 season Berahino scored seven league goals under Irvine and seven under Pulis (if you count West Ham away as Pulis's first game).

Loads of pundits bang on about how great Pulis is.  Question that springs to my mind; would Leicester have won the league if Pulis had been in charge?  For me, no.

Same with Allardyce too, another one where the pundits/media ram it down our throats about how great he is.

Decent performance but lacking quality in the final third.  Final ball was poor for most of the game.

Shocking behaviour! Yes, it's disappointing, but you don't go round attacking people because your team's lost. Grow up!

Albion are bottom of the league for shots on target, 68.  They're also bottom for total shots, 222.

Is it just me, or did Pulis look like he was saying to Kemp that he'd forgotten he only had one sub left?

« on: April 08, 2015, 10:41:30 AM »
The number 9 was only special when Astle wore it. It's irrelevant who has worn it since, or on Saturday. In fact, there will be more pride in adorning it in the crowd.
I agree it's pretty irrelevant nowadays, but for my generation (I'm 34), Bob Taylor was a special number nine.

If an outfield player is having an obvious shocker, they're subsistuted. Why are goalies never replaced when they're having a bad game?

All the years I've supported Albion, we've always been a charity for poor teams. Not won for a while? Strikers can't score? Don't worry, Albion will gift you a game!!

I think Lescott needs to take Berahino to one side and say, 'I've won the Premier League, won cups, played for England in tournaments; you have done nothing Saido.' It's his second season, he needs knocking down a peg or ten. Talent will only get you so far, bad attitude can finish a career just as quickly as a bad tackle. He needs to take a look at Scott Sinclair, Steve Sidwell, Scott Parker, Jack Rodwell, Victor Moses etc etc to see what can happen if you go to a big club too soon.

Been convinced all season that we're going down and unless something dramatic happens transfer wise between now and Monday, I can't see how we'll survive. Summer 2013 was a shocking transfer window and in summer 2014 we just replaced poor players with poor players.

The players are playing for him, they just aren't necessarily up to the task. A change in manager will not necessarily result in a change in fortune.  I see the suggestion that we have a squad capable of finishing in the top 10, we haven't.  How many of our players do you think are capable of getting regular football for a top ten side? How many teams are banging on our door to drag our players away? The funny thing is, the player who gets most derided on here is most likely to be playing at the highest placed Premier League team come next season.
We recruited badly last season, a number of people lost their jobs because of it, players, coaches and backroom staff. This put significant pressure on everyone this season and we are still in recovery.  We still do not appear to have found the men to score the goals and that will make it difficult for Alan Irvine or if he is sacked, his replacement.

Completely agree with this. I've thought since the summer that the squad wasn't really improved from last season, and this, rather than the coach is the issue for me.  Before people start banging out stats of how many caps certain players have, remember bad players win caps too. Regardless of what we think, we don't see the players everyday, maybe the ones people are crying out for to get picked just aren't showing it in training. I understand some players aren't good trainers, but they usually show something that warrants a start. If 'wonderful, best coach ever Hodgson' was in charge, I bet the players deficiencies would be getting more of a mention.  Our recruitment is the problem for me, which again goes back to Dan Ashworth leaving. Maybe the Head Coach role needs revising? Without someone as good as Ashworth, it seems clear the system falls down.

Lets just pull out the cups then shall we? Lets just stay up every year,is that all our ambition is now?? Modern day football stinks!!

I agree with you, modern football does stink. Sadly, the game is about money and nothing else nowadays. Players and clubs aren't bothered about trophies, just cash. You get 60-70 million for coming 17th in the Prem, and that is success. In the modern game success is measured by your bank balance.

Look at the size of teams who have won the league cup recently.  Why cant a team like us win the League Cup?  I really hate this mentality.

Psalm has a point, only twice in ten seasons has the cup been won by sides other than Liverpool, Spurs, Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea. So it is actually unlikely a team like ours can win it.

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: were not english were scouse?
« on: October 05, 2014, 10:06:44 AM »
I've lived in Liverpool for fourteen years and when it comes to football, most of the Scousers I know dislike the England football team. They're very much a club before country lot and they say their players always seem to get injured on England duty.  I think supporters of successful clubs may not like England as much because they're used to seeing their teams do well; for many other fans, England are their best chance of seeing a team have a chance of winning a tournament.

There is also a lot of local pride here and many Scousers see themselves as Scouse before being English/British. I don't know for a fact, but some of the anti-England feeling could cone from the 80's when the Tory government left Liverpool to rot.
