West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Slaven Bilic
« on: November 03, 2020, 02:00:48 PM »
It seems to me we have been unable to maintain any intensity since December.  We limped over the line for promotion.  I like Bilic and would love to see him turn it around  but it seems to be a recurring problem.  I agree about the lack of overall quality of the squad but lack of intensity, struggling to get the best out of his players, seems to follow him around.

A sample of one interview back in 2016, with West Ham:

"This intensity and dedication to the cause is missing. We didn't forget to play football. We didn't forget how to be creative. But somewhere along the line, we lost it."

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/slaven-bilic-running-out-answers-and-running-out-time-west-ham-united-a7457571.html

The problems he highlights in that interview seem perilously close to the problems we seem to be seeing now.

I would not be surprised to see another club turn their attention to him if they fail to land their targets.  If Sheffield United lose out to Palace on Brewster, for instance, might be an attractive alternative for them, the player, and if the deal is right, for Huddersfield.

Effectively the equivalent of buying the player for 17 million with a 12 million release clause if relegated (except we only initially pay an installment of 5 million).

No brainier pay the extra or an equivalent (Kanu and Zohore?)

My guess is that Huddersfield don't want to add any high earners to their books, let alone cast offs.  Possibly Field would give them potential value without a jump in wages but not sure they need a player in his position.  But I thoroughly agree, Grant deal needs to get done.  We need to improve our starting eleven before improving our bench, even if it means popular players not returning (eg Krov).

Always thought Steele would be the one to break through from our academy. Unfortunate for him that we had a period of great keepers when he was with the club.

Sure you must be thinking of Luke Daniels.  Steele was Peterborough academy and came via Mancehster United as a make  weight for Kuszczak along with McShane.

Zhang Yuning spotted in China, believed to be signing with Beijing Guoan on loan after his time with ADO Den Haag was a bust.

Can't wait for him to come back for his testimonial, maybe he could play an 11 captained by stalwart Bartosz Slusarski.

Victor Anichebe is accusing his former club, Beijing Enterprises of match fixing after the coach told him 'not to try'.  Maybe he just doesn't understand sarcasm.

Ripon North Yorks

I meant the club he started at and ultimately returned to.

Think Kevin Keegan came from Scunthorpe

As did John Kaye! And returned there I believe.

And who is Plan C?

There is still a possibility we will find out.

Which is all well and good apart from we would be bringing in an inferior striker to attempt to earn promotion, how does that work?

That depends on Newcastle's plan B.  If Plan A is to loan Rondon and let Gayle go the other way, with or without a view to a permanent at the end of the year and Plan B is to begrudgingly  trigger his release clause if we hard ball them enough, then inferior striker or not, at least it leaves with one who is proven at this level.  Still not convinced it will happen though.

« on: July 25, 2018, 12:39:11 PM »
Sawyers has just started following WBA and Sam Johnstone on Twitter. Could be absolutely nothing but the same happened with Barnes a couple of days ago

He has been following the WBA account since he was a player here.  If you look at follow lists on the twitter phone app it will show followers you share first on the list so it looks like they are recent, so if you are following WBA and Sam Johnstone yourself it will make them appear like recent follows for him.  If you look on a laptop or PC it shows them in order and he followed West Brom long before he followed Brentford, so don't read too much into that.

Also bear in mind Sam Johnstone was on loan at Walsall while Romain was a player there.

Barnsley and Leicester forum say quick feet, direct and good end product.

Already sounds Better than Burke, leko& McClean

I spoke to a Barnsley STH I work with and they couldn't praise him enough.  Also said he had a really good attitude.

so much for waiting for July 1st !
Its getting concerning now,
I'm usually pretty laid back about how the club does business but this does seem to smack of complacency and ineptitude

Which makes you wonder if it is Appleton since he was reported to be on honeymoon this week when Leicester ended his contract.

Factor in that he played in a major international competition over summer and barring one or two errors another quality season from him.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Saido for reminding us all what a professional Jake Livermore is. Own up to your errors, draw a line under your past and focus on how you can come back from the experience for your own benefit, the benefit of you new club and people who may be facing similar problems.

As for Saido then he presumably has a West Midlands Police crime number to back up his story, unless it is 1) made up 2) he is protecting someone who has engaged in a criminal act. Also the PFA are usually a little vocal where they think a player has been aggrieved.

Super kev scoring in stoppage time at Wednesday to give us 3 massive promotion chasing points

96th minute I think and made a little sweeter as earlier in the season they had got a last minute winner at the Hawthorns following a blatant foul on Hoefkens.  Super Kev had a habit of getting late goals.

His arrival was a watershed moment for us.  Our first convincing centre half in the premiership period and as his letter says we went from being a yo yo club.  Also a great bit of business at the time.  Very grateful for the passion and commitment.  Best of luck, Jonas.

He comes across as someone determined not to be permanently marked by a low point in his life.  His performance last night was enough to keep him in the frame for future selection.

Very strange move for a renowned Celtic supporter.

Not going to happen...........

Added to which is his defence of McClean 'He's got strong beliefs and its great that he's got those beliefs' was the quote in the Daily Record.  I'm not convinced that would endear him with Rangers fans from the small amount I've read of their opinions on that matter.

That is now the last three incumbent title holding managers that have lost their jobs during or at the end of the following season.

Great stat that is. 25th in the all time Premier League assist table. Most of those above him aren't to be sniffed at either.

Nor are many of those beneath him.
