"Did he mean that?!"
« on: July 04, 2011, 10:57:19 PM »
Just for a change from people panicking about transfers 2 days in :o id thought i would post this, which  Albion goal over the years has made you wonder" Did he really mean that?"
Mine would be Mulumbu's header away at Middlesborough in that fantastic 5-0 win,not seen the goal in ages but i do remember thinking that at the time.
Anybody else with any goals like that? :)

Miller's ridiculous overhead effort, can't remember who it was against but it was in front of the Brummie, can anyone remember it?

I didn't even wonder to be honest, it was clearly a fluke ;D

Remember Jonathan Greening away at Arsenal when he set up Earnshaws equaliser? Did he mean to control it by knocking it down the line, or did he just get lucky???

I think Miller claimed it was intentional  ;D
I think Mulumbu's genuinely was though, really strong neck to get power on it.

One I can remember was Gregans equaliser vs someone late on and it came off his knee. Can't remember exactly.

Derek Statham vs Gillingham(?) FA Cup around 1983. Cross from the left wing went over the 'keepers head for a 1-0 win. Did he mean it? Yeah right!!  ;D

Kevin Phillips away at Watford when we won 3-0? Morrison had a shot across goal that hit SKP on the back of the heel and went in the opposite corner, clear fluke.

I remember that one I think he took a corner the goalie dived for it and punched it into the net. No way was that intentional.

Trying to think of a few from this season:

Every single one of Somen Tchoyi's goals!  :P
Dorrans' cross/shot against West Ham.
Scharner against Sunderland, if you've seen him take a shot with his feet before you'll realise this was a fluke.
Mulumbu against Villa! Either immense skill or immense luck, but got a blessing with the finish anyway.

And also Tamas' superb header when we played Blackburn. Immense finish. Looked almost like he meant it.

Watford away when we came back for 2-0 at half time and drew 3-3.

Sneekes just stopped the ball going out for a watford goal kick and half volleyed a vicious cross that flew in above the Watford keeper. We actually went 3-2 up after being 2-0 down and I think the beast and Butler ran into each other for Watford to make it 3-3!

Back in the day when Albion fans knew how to celebrate a great goal in proper fashion. Just look at the fans when the goal goes in........now lets go f****** mental.

Happy days and not a prawn sandwich in sight.

The flukiest goal i can remember in recent years has to be millers against plymouth, he just kind of fell backwards getting a toe on the ball and it floated over everybody.

Bednars back of the head against city was pretty dodgy too although he proably did mean it but just had the worst technique of jump and hope  ;D

Chris Wood's first goal for us was a bit of a blinder ... smashing it in from god knows how far out after taking it down on his chest.

Although Brunt's vs Middlesborough a few seasons ago when we won 5-0 was a classic.

I'd say brunt definitely meant that, the technique behind it was sublime and you can see from that that he meant it

There's a Robson goal from the 70s, must be one of the few clips they have from then, they show it when they connect him to us as a player - he heads a loose ball across the box from out wide and it loops into the far corner, then he is shown looking a bit embarrassed, silly haircut and all.
