West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Play off Points Target
« on: April 10, 2024, 08:16:38 AM »
As long as we qualify we won't have to play Norwich,Hull,Boro,Coventry or Preston till Wembley so we would only have to face them in a one off match if we get to Wembley we would have to beat third or fourth over two legs to get there.

Most of us would give Fellows far more time on the pitch but Carlos never seems to give him 90 minutes and if he doesn't do how will he build his stamina to last a whole game if not given the chance.

He must be exhausted after all the wasted forward runs he made into promising positions against Coventry without receiving the ball.

Diangana appears to have many of the skills of Saka of Arsenal.
Obviously Saka is a better player but he produces his skills against better players in a better league
but Diangana just doesn't produce what he would be capable even against poorer opponents.

I think he tries hard and might be just what we need but in principal I do not think we should take young unproven players on loan as it sends the wrong message to our own young players.

basically I am pleased with CC but I wish he would be more adventurous with use of our youngsters otherwise they don't get the chance to develop or show whether or not they are likely to be good enough.
Premiership teams trust their youngsters even though the standard is higher why can't we?

i have always rated him so I hope he does well but he was in his twenties then and now in his thirties and was not a certain starter at Bristol. The worry is he doesn't deliver and he will be on a decent wage and blocking the development of a young player.

It is stupid that Azoz has apparently gone for £2M and we have let Gardner Hickman go for £1.3M as I understand it.

with another match on Friday I think we should have made earlier substitutions so as  to keep more of the squad less tired.

I understand Cleary is injured but if not he should be given a chance.
We are short of strikers but all the playing staff are professionals so surely a young striker is more likely to score than senior non strikers so lets find what the academy has produced.

generally I am against extending contracts well before their expiration date but there should be exceptions.
Fellows is very promising and Tony Brown and I are in agreement that we would like him to be given more game time.
He is not going to be on mega wages at present and there is a good chance he will improve with experience so we should try to nail him down with a new contract now before someone comes in and snaps him up cheaply.

We are seeing possession football which we would not have thought our players were capable of a few months ago and Palmer seems to have improved out of all recognition is this due to the new goalkeeping coach CC has appointed?

I agree it was a superb goal
He had to win the ball and it became a one on one
a)They get missed at all levels including the Premiership
     b)He scored
c)It was a well controlled lob/chip and MOD would have been drueling over it if it had been Ronaldo or Messi
Ingram took his goal well and i would like to know if we have a recall option
and talking of loan players we should look at Draper on loan at Walsall.Of course he might not be good enough but over the years we have missed Phil Parkes Alan Clarke Buckley Henry etc at Walsall.

Unless Furlong is going to turn out to be a freekick expert why on earth did he take the kick from in or around the D when we have Mowatt who has a decent record of taking them

I don't know why he is constantly being subbed after about 70 minutes. It may be because he has an injury I am not aware of but if it is due to fitness issues it is a disgrace because he is a professional athlete.

At the beginning of the window he said he wanted a young athletic team.We could have lost to Leeds, dropped points against Swansea and ten man Middlesboro yet we have made no moves in that direction,
There are 16 year olds playing in the premiership and scoring for Sunderland but CC is not giving any youngster game time so how will we get a young athletic team>
Fellows in on the bench but never gets on pitch so how is he to develop and if he does get on he won't be match fit,
I had faith in CC at the start of the season but I am beginning to worry as he does not seem to react when we have obvious weaknesses.

It  is a bonus having a centre back who can control the ball and use it very well which he can do but the prime requirement is
reliability and he is just as likely to make a bad mistake which can lead to conceding a goal.
He is not worth a place in the team if he can't be relied on.

Wallace has been a great disappointment to me but it may have been to to the lack of support from Furlong. It will be interesting to see if  he develops a good relationship with our new wing back and delivers  what we expect from him.

What are the odds that we will sign a couple of players on deadline day and are told they should be available for selection by the middle of October?

The only positive I can see in this deal is I believe there is a sell on clause if he fulfills his promise and is sold for a much larger fee,
Bristol city have just sold a youngster for over 20 million pounds but if that player had been at the Albion I can not imagine him being developed to that level and even if he had can any of our fans imagine us receiving that sort of sum as we would probably eagerly accepted a sum less than 10 million.

The way to develop youngsters and keep them is to give the more promising players at least some game time and in a position to which they are suited not like with Malcolm who is not capable of playing the one up front role.Seeing one of their own playing in the first team will encourage others and they must be given time on the pitch to develop as many are not going to be instantly able to play at a higher level but will improve as they get used to the speed and ability required.Seeing their mates playing in the first team will make them more likely to stay with the Albion and sign a contract.

I was surprised to see Malcolm played one up front as few people can and nothing in my limited knowledge of the player suggested he could play in that position.

when new management were appointed a month or two back we were promised the team would have a change so that emphasis was on young, fast athletic players, that might occur but so far there is no evidence of it and our first two signings weren't fit to start the opening match.
CC must be very frustrated and I wonder if his sending off was evidence of the stress he is under.

Most of us fans couldn't believe the team selection so hopefully he gets it right with many changes for the cup game.
Recent managers always say they want to progress in the cup then field a totally unbalanced team and we get knocked out.
Tuesday is different in so much as if he played his strongest team as presumably he picked today we would be knocked out so he has freedom to make several changes without necessarily being held to account.
I personally would like some of the most promising youngsters to be given a chance but fortified with some of our best players not all youngsters and perhaps Sarminento and Manja ? given a run out also.

i have seen him on his couple of appearances and last year he was Cheltenham's young player of the season and I thought he was promising and I was surprised he wasn't in the  squad but of course CC knows more about his ability than I do.
