West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: WBA Kits for Sale

From the 'away' shirt descriptions I'm guessing they're the T-Mobile/Umbro Kits from 2006-2008.

The stories are suggesting his wages are £1.5m a year, hence Blues want a sizeable chunk of that off their books for next year due to their reduced revenue (although they have parachute money, I noticed yesterday that they have no sponsor and are offering game by game deals on shirts, sound familiar???)

Hence I can see them holding out for a while longer as the nearer it gets to the season more urgent our need for a keeper becomes, but likewise their opportunity to offload him diminishes too.

Having had a good look now the home kit is in the shop and I'm not that impressed. I usually get one or the other kit and then get the other one after Xmas, but don't think I'll bother.

Talking to a mate of mine last night who says apparently a lot of the Blues deals are for a LOT less they thay have been rep[orted as there hasn't been the interest in the players they thought there would be.
Roger Johnson has been reported as £7m but the apparently the actual deal is nearer £4m with no add ons. Not sure on his source but might be why we're not just stumping up the asking price, and getting this close to the start of the season no one else has yet made a move for him so we could be forcing Blues hand for a cheaper deal

What his he trying to say with these comments the rest cant pick up how he wants them to play ?

Or they're not suited to how we are trying to play - but is that partly a confidence thing, are they trying too hard to impress ?

Unfortunately Tesco have a slightly higher profile than us !!!!

Besides we call the Dingles, well, Dingles, but that has only really been since the prominence of their namesakes in 'Emmerdale'.

Totally agree regarding our Number 9. Not sure that Bednar has ever really warranted it on merit, but it may have been a mind game thing of giving him confidence that he was a 'worthy number 9'.
Equally if we were to give PO the number 9 and he had a bad season, would people associate it with him having too much pressure from the shirt or changing from his 'successful' number 24 shirt ??

But isn't that why we claim modern footballers have lost touch with the fans/reality. We'd all play for nothing, and run through brick walls if it meant representing the Albion.
Modern players have to put their socks on in the right order, kiss the badge/pitch every time they run out, say 3 hail mary's, and do a funny little dance so they are 'in the zone'.

And then they have a psychologist to help them visualise winning and how it feels, so they don't get too depressed following a bad game/defeat.

Bless 'em.............................but a lot of these seemingly trivial things are quite important to players.

And also bear in mind, that a lot of players (not necessarily Albion players) are seen as quite 'intellectually challenged', to the point that an intelligent player is seen as something of a rarity.

I hope we leave the numbers for the players who were hear last year, surely the mental impact on a Miller, Bednar etc of the being 'officially demoted' in the squad could upset our dressing room.

quote]Well spotted I hadn't seen that, however don't PL rules necessitate the existence of a third strip even if it isn't used?[/quote]

Have just looked at the 2010/11 PL rules and here are som extracts from the 'PLayer Identification and Strips'section.

Home and Away Strip
13. Each Club shall have a home Strip and an away Strip which shall be worn by its Players in League Matches in accordance with the provisions of these Rules.
14. The logo of the League shall appear on each sleeve of both home Strip and away Strip shirts.
15. Neither the home Strip shirt nor the away Strip shirt shall be of a colour or design alike or similar to the outfits of Match Officials.
16. Not later than 4 weeks before the commencement of each Season each Club shall register its Strips by submitting to the Secretary Form 9 together with samples of its home Strip, away Strip and goalkeeper’s Strip complying with these Rules and a brief written description of each and the Secretary having entered the descriptions in a register will cause the same to be printed in the handbook of the League.

Third Strip
25. Each Club may have a third Strip in addition to its home Strip and its away Strip.
26. The provisions of Rules F.14, F.15 and F.16 shall apply to any third Strip as well as to home Strip and away Strip.

So it isn't compulsory to have a third kit.

It's not the clash of colours that dictate what kit can be worn - it's the referee's judgement on whether there is a distinguishable difference between the kits for him and the assistants to make decisions on tackles etc.

The fact that the home kit section on the official shop has 'home change' shorts and socks suggests that we can get around some of the potential clashes by wearing navy shorts and socks with the home shirt.

Saw some kids footie training today and both the coach and one of the kids were wearing the new kit. Looked pretty good to be fair, but I'm still not 100% convinced I'll buy one until after Xmas when they reduce them.

I think to judge players purely on the level of misdemeanour vs ability would be very dangerous.
Take Barton for example - whilst people can argue that he's served his time etc I would be more concerned about the negative effect a personality like him could have on our dressing room. Several of his previous 'minor indiscretions' have involved team mates, fellow players etc and for that reason I would consider such a signing as a no no

I still think the best optin for all parties would be a season long loan deal with Myhill going the other way as part of the package.
Blues then have the option of him returning next year should they get promoted.
Foster is still playing in the Prem should he decide to come out of international retirement, and his form warrants selection.
We don't end up massively out of pocket and can sign a more experienced keeper (like Macho) as backup.

There don't seem to be many clubs lining up to take him so if that eased their wage bill for the year I think they'd certainly consider it

A couple of quotes I have heard about Miller always make me chuckle

'He can trap a ball further than most players can pass'
'For a 6' lad he can jump to 5' 4"'

Unfair ? Probably but the 'frustration' people have in him is largely down to his lack of running for the team, and his strike rate isn't good enough for him to warrant inclusion on that alone.

Loving the white top - In fact might get one instead of the regular kit. And it may potentially solve any 3rd kit nightmares - use the white GK top???

Article from Roy on the offical site, basically says they've seen glimpses of him in training but want to have a good look at him in pre-season as they believe he could force his way into the team, but had he have gone away with England he would have been at a disadvantage compared with the other players

Although not a costly mistake. We only paid a relatively small fee to City for him (£900k rising to £1.4m with add-ons http://www.wba.co.uk/page/News/0,,10366~1230457,00.html) and he was a useful player in the promotion campaign and the Prem until his injury. If we can recoup our money then it's not been a bad deal in my view

Can't see a clash with QPR and our away kit (esp with ours having dark blue shorts/socks), likewise Chelsea and the home kit as they have very little white in their kit. We also played at home in the Carling Cup last year to Man City with them in Sky Blue and the us in stripes.
The main clash I can envisage is Newcastle away, but would expect to see the away shirt with home shirts and socks (which ironically would look Man City esque)

A couple of seasons ago when Villa played West Ham there wasn't enough difference between the home an away kits for either team, so Villa ended up using their training tops which were plain-ish white. Always an option in an emergency with us having dark blue, white and black adidas tops (as on sale in the club shop).

I just started to wonder whether the fact that technically speaking Roy Hodgson only has 1 year to go on his contract might influence player's decisions on whether to come to us. Would they be signing for someone now who could be gone in May if he gets the Olympic or England job (although TBH the Olympic job would be just like a summer job so we could grant him a sabbatical to do that and then come back)

Anyone else think the club have picked up on the on-line negativity, hence the article on the OS saying the pre-orders for the shirt are higher than ever ???

The 'Only the Strong' thing has started to appear since the end of last season. I thought it might have been the DVD title (as in Only the Strong Survive) but it wasn't.

Can only think they're trying to create a subconcious link between Albion and being strong (think McDonalds and I'm Loving It) - kind of subliminal marketing so when you think of Albion you think of strength.

Was watching the season review DVD again last night, specifically the spell where Myhill was in goal through to the end of the seaswon. Didn't look like there was a lot between him and Carson in terms of some of the goals, both were guilty of some suspect keeping at time, but alos both made great saves on occasions.

I agree that he could be a star at this World Cup, but if he forces a place in to our team this season he will get  other international calls based on that. If he went to the world cup and starred but then came back and spent the rest of the season playing catch up in the reserves then is that good for him ?

I don't doubt that this will have been a difficult decision for him, but I can see the long term benefits of the choice. And he will no doubt have had conversations with both the international coaches and Roy & the team and made what he beleives to be the best decision for him  and his career.
