If I was a right winger and Craig Gardner was preferred to me, I would consider my future limited.

Agreed.

Feel sorry for the lad, every time I have seen him, he has impressed me. Surely we have enough central defenders in the side to cover the defensive aspects to enable McManaman to take the game to the opposition? Not according to our Mr. Pulis.

Poor full backs need protecting which is why we use workhorses like Gardner and McLean in the wide areas.

Got it on good authority from a few of the Liverpool lads up here that know McManaman, he has had a big falling out with Pulis, hardly spoken for 2 or 3 months and certain to leave in January.

FFS. I know we don't know the detail but its so frustrating when something like that damages an absolutely enormous financial outlay for our club when we really need to get value for every penny spent.

Plus, he's an exciting player. Wonder if the same happened with Varela when he arrived, with Poco and Gamboa. For me, poco and Varela were playing well and I could never understand why both of them were immediately discarded.

Pulis did hang him out to dry when he was accused of diving. I don't know if that was has been the reason for their relationship breaking down or that he isn't disciplined enough for example. Massive waste of money on him and Chester which ever way you look at it.

My take is he wasn't snapped up by another premier league club before we brought him here so there might be something there we don't see e.g. attitude, character, lack of application??

He's not shown enough end product at Wigan or us to show me he's as good as some think - anyone  who isn't happy , we should get rid because especially a fringe player.

Some signings work others don't , we've had players who looked world beaters but who didn't click elsewhere e.g. Curtis Davis, Joe Kamara to name two.

I'm not that bothered about him either way to be honest

Fitness.

He proved at Wigan that he could barely play past 60 minutes in the championship, before being subbed off. It's been no different here, even when he was playing it was always limited. I think it was very naive of West Brom to buy him with this in mind. It wasn't an unknown issue, it was very clear and he wasn't too cheap either. If we could get around £3 million for him then it would be decent.

I'm not so sure it's as simple as that. Unless you are prepared to double up as a second full back then Pulis isn't interested. He's perhaps not good enough or disciplined enough defensively to do a job for Pulis. A shame really as he always looks like he can open teams up.

But surely he knew that (or should have known that) before he signed him?

Perhaps not. Maybe he thought he could get more out of him and hasn't been able to. The same could be said for Gnabry and Chester. If we had some decent full backs then maybe we could let our wingers concentrate on getting forward a bit more.

Not sure about that.  Pulis knew who our full backs were and what was needed.  Point taken though that if Chester had dislodged Dawson then it might have resulted in less tracking back needed.

McManaman falling out of favour has nothing to do with who he is playing front of. Pulis may never sign or play a specialist full back. His midfield drops deep when out of possession and it drops deep as a unit, if tracking back is at the heart of the issue (I don't think it is) then you have to assume that Sessegnon is better and although improved this not an aspect of his game I would want to rely on.

Derby bought a striker/winger from abroad so probably won't be in for him now.  Not wishing to insult the "ITK" posters, but I would take the fall out with Pulis thing with a pinch of salt, he (Pulis) doesn't seem to allow such things to fester, and he is the "grown up" in the relationship.

CMac is what he is a typical winger however you need more to be a regular starter for any Premier League Team hes got a great final ball and tricky pace when attacking proberbly one of our best however he just cannot offer any type of protection to our 'full backs' or even proper fullbacks if we had them.

He needs to wake up and smell the coffee and work on that side of his game because he would develop into one cracking player if he did.

Play proper full backs and you don't need constant protection, McManaman is far superior to McLean in everything, other than tracking back.
It is not the taking part, but the winning that counts.

I dont agree at all with that watch any team at our level in the Premier League and they have hard working wingers.

And I don't agree with you, I don't see wingers in many other premier league sides expected to offer such protection to full backs.

Hard working maybe, but that doesn't mean they track back at every opportunity.

Just look at what Sess does on the other side thats what CMac should be doing but he doesnt.

No one even Pulis suggests they should track back at every opportunity however they need to be close to the fullback when defending (attack as a two and defend as a two) its why Neville and Beckham were so successful.

We will have to agree to disagree.

I cannot see the point of having the likes of Sess lay a ball to an overlapping Dawson, Chester etc who are incapable of beating a full back or providing a decent cross.

In the first half today, Rondon received most balls when out wide left, surely that is the position McLean should be taking up, instead he was thirty yards behind holding Brunts hand.
It is not the taking part, but the winning that counts.

Would probably be worth that much if he played regularly for someone.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/west-bromwich-albion/12103377/West-Brom-place-7-million-price-tag-on-Callum-McManaman.html

West Bromwich Albion are demanding £7 million for Callum McManaman after QPR and Middlesbrough became the latest clubs to register an interest.
McManaman is set to leave West Brom this month, barely a year after signing from Wigan Athletic, and has also been targeted by Bournemouth.
QPR and Middlesbrough both made enquiries this week and were told that any permanent deal would cost £7m, almost double the fee West Brom paid last January.

The 24-year-old has been mainly used as an impact substitute by Tony Pulis this season and failed to start a Premier League game since September.
But any deal for McManaman looks likely to be a loan move after the significant fee placed on the winger's head.
Pulis is plotting his strategy for the final fortnight of the transfer window with Saido Berahino expected to stay at the Hawthorns.
Berahino - West Bromwich Albion tell Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United striker Saido Berahino is not for sale
Saido Berahino is expected to stay at the Hawthorns

Berahino has been a target for both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle but both clubs were told the England under-21 international is not for sale this month, after enquiries last week.
Jeremy Peace, the West Brom chairman, is prepared to dig in his heels over Berahino's future and is renowned for detesting any business in the January window.

West Brom have also reiterated that £8m defender James Chester, who has barely played this season, will not be sold this month.

Pulis said: "Most of the business usually happens at the back end of the window so again we’ll suck it and see. We don’t know what’s going to happen yet."

Words fail me don't play them don't sell them wait to until what someone wants to buy a player who has barely kicked a ball in anger in 12 months for more money than we paid for them. Now I know we did that with Lambert (well not quite) but for the love of everything holy unless we unload the Pulis bomb squad we will be getting desperately short of players.
