How come Matt Targett only received a yellow?? Is that not denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.....?

Double jeopardy rule.

I think it would only ever be a red card had it been a deliberate attempt not to play the ball

I have sympathy with the ref, I think that should be a red regardless and it would always be a tough one to judge (even after replays some can’t agree). As for Targett, it’s the new rule. It might not be fair when comparing the two, but the ref has just applied his interpretation of the rules.

Interesting to hear Burke has started well. He has raw ability and Wilder is a special manager. Could still work.

Sheff. Utd. look a very difficult side to break down. That will be a test for our lads.

Looking at Watkins, who I highly rate, the style of play at Villa doesn't suit him.  Brentford broke very fast and he played on the shoulder of the last man. The Villa build up is so painfully slow, that he can't use his pace.

There are some strange slogans being plastered in the stadiums at the moment. At Villa Park it says "Part of the Pride"??  and at Goodison a couple of banners state "The People's Club"? What does that mean??  ::)

Could the vile lot be because it has a lion on its badge, it is part of the pride?

You could have a point. But I could understand it more if they were known as the Lions. Maybe they nicked the idea from Wolves where the banners say something about the pack.

Everton have referred to themselves as ‘the peoples club’ for a while it’s not a new thing
Part of the pride is a reference to the lion on the badge I think

David Moys described Everton as "The People's Club' when he was manager and their marketing department took it from there!

I despise the vile, but no team can be that lucky without there being more to it than down to just luck, can there?

If someone can, seriously as apposed to frivolously, explain the phenomenon that follows the vile, I’d be interested in reading it as it has haunted me for 72 years.

Oh I do hope so.

The wife and father-in-law are watching the game as I write this and they’re getting very agitated. I’m trying my best to hide by glee. 😜
