1,661 tickets left in home areas. With 2 1/2 weeks left till the game it looks certain to be a sell out.
Villa sold out.
-
1,489 tickets remaining now, 21,900 plus sold.
There were just over one hundred ticket sales yesterday which has been the norm lately and less than one hundred today which would indicate sales are slowing down. I hope this is going to be a blip and we don't struggle to sell the rest of these tickets as that would be embarrassing against the Villa.
-
Only being on sale to members and members only being allowed to buy 2 is becoming a problem in my circle of friends. People want to go but can’t get tickets as the season ticket holders and members we know have used there 2 tickets up.
Surely they could open it up to anyone that’s got a history on the booking system, that would be a better option

Back over a hundred sales today (111 at the time of posting). 1,378 remaining now. Over 22,000 sold.

Have they put the restricted view tickets on sale yet ?
-
Pinched from anther thread...
Villa have also conceded several from set pieces haven't they ? Not that we want to rely on those too much.
Pulis should have got something there if that was the case.
As you say...We shouldn't rely on those sort of tactics.
Pressure them and their keeper, I feel would be the best way.
We have a great strike force and we have players who can shoot.
They will not know where our attack will come from...There is no obvious striker (unlike when we had only Rondon).
-
Have they put the restricted view tickets on sale yet ?
No mate
-
Exactly 400 tickets left as of 7.55 Monday morning. With it being the week of the match now I'd expect those tickets to be sold by Wednesday at the latest.

I'm not going to the Villa match but coincidentally I tried to renew my membership and was told that membership was suspended until after that match to prevent Villa supporters claiming tickets through Albion membership. I told the woman I was renewing membership and she confirmed my membership number but she just kept parroting "Membership is suspended until after the Villa game".
As an IT systems designer I reckon it's a poor system that can't distinguish between new and renewed membership.

If she confirmed your membership number then it's pretty obvious they can differentiate between new and renewed. It's also pretty obvious they've decided on a policy and are sticking to it. If you don't require a ticket for the Villa game there's no issue.
-
Quite: no issue - just a comment. We can either improve or be complacent.
-
Quite: no issue - just a comment. We can either improve or be complacent.
In this instance it's the policy which is the issue as opposed to the system itself.
Failure to renew your membership for the start of the season could also be construed as complacency.
Why on earth did you wait until the run up to the Villa game to renew?
-
Need a performance like Leeds at home to beat this lot, their playing well and scoring goals Gayle needs to be in first 11 with HRK being dropped
-
Without the coward in charge we should have a go at them, Darren knows what beating these can do to his reputation, I think he will go out all guns blazing ! Could be a really exciting game!
-
I think you're more likely to sit in deep and try and hit us on the break. You did Bristol 4-1 playing like that and Leeds.
-
We are unchanged yet again. We can’t keep Gayle on the bench. He’s far too good to be left out of the starting line up.
-

Agreed. I think the system would work just as well with JRod our wide and Gayle through the middle. Saying that kanu has been winning a lot of free kicks recently.
-
Think it’s a mistake going for the same 11 again we didn’t play particularly well at Swansea especially going forward, I’d drop Jrod for Gayle personally maybe bring Barry in to control the midfield also.
-
For Gayle to play Rodriguez or Barnes will need to be left out. Kanu is imperative to the system as the only left footer and the only physical presence.
For me Rodriguez should be sat on the bench.

Almost what Keith Andrews was saying after the game
Gayle doesn't work in the middle of the three , I think HRK looked good again tonight, but he will be the one to miss out
-

Agreed. Rodriguez is offering absolutely nothing, both have been poor but at least Barnes offers a threat.
Against the Villa I would shore the midfield up a bit though, sit Barry in there alongside Livermore and Morrison and push Phillips to the right wing, Gayle through the middle and Barnes from the left
-
I think we'll score at least two against your defence but I also think you'll score at least two against ours. 2-2 or 3-3
-
I don't/didn't normally rate HRK, but tonighht showed how much we needed him to hold the ball up. The second half we struggled because there wasn't anyone who could do his job.
Hopefully with his being taken off, he gets a bit of extra rest and comes out all guns firing.
-

If HRK isn't fit for the game that's what I would be doing. Barry cm and Phillips as the other wide forward. Rodriguez needs dropping for gayle
-
Well they're out of the woodwork again...
We won't be as profligate as tonight. 5 or 6-2 to us.
-
If all fit;
Johnstone
Dawson tosin Hegazi Gibbs
Phillips Livermore Morrison
HRK Gayle Barnes
Bench: myhill mears Barry brunt sako Burke Rodriguez
If HRK not fit;
Johnstone
Dawson tosin Hegazi Gibbs
Livermore Barry Morrison
Phillips Gayle Barnes
Bench: myhill mears brunt field Burke sako Rodriguez
Tosin done ok at fullback but only time he faced decent winger at Swansea for the last minutes he was run ragged by montero. I dread him v bolasie.
Rodriguez not delivering at the moment, Gayle isn't a winger he needs to go through the middle.
Need somebody with some presence up top if HRK ain't fit Phillips has shown he can hold the ball Up and would also be a threat on the break.

We must win this game, in terms of both getting points on the board and the obvious.
As Jacko says, they are well and truly out the woodwork again, and rightly so as they have appointed a very promising manager who should be sat in our dugout, but we must silence them.
-
Not as confident as I would have been a couple weeks ago.
They seem to have found their feet under Dean Smith now, which should make for an interesting game.
We could have done with keeping the clean sheet last night, we keep letting in these late goals to lose the clean sheet, it may start to play on the players minds a little when we get into the last 10/15 of games.
Got a feeling it will be a draw, 1-1.
-
I'm going to pick the team with the understanding HRK wont be fit enough to start:
Johnstone
Tosin
Dawson
Hegazi
Gibbs
Livermore
Barry
Morrison
Phillips
Gayle
Barnes
With HRK's presence being removed, I think Phillips will need to be pushed further forward, slot Barry in to try to control the middle of the park.
That's the team I would like to see. I cant imagine DM will drop Rodriguez though so we may see the same team as yesterday but with Gayle replacing HRK.

Nailed it.
Exactly the team we should play.
-
Interesting to see people suggesting Phillips moving forward in the event of Robson-Kanu being out. I wouldn't disagree with that. HRK clearly picked up an injury last night and with only three days recovery time I wouldn't consider him for selection. So team v Villa:
Johnstone
Adarabioyo Dawson Hegazi Gibbs
Morrison Livermore Barry
Phillips Rodriguez Barnes
Subs: Myhill, Mears, Brunt, Harper, Gayle, Burke, Hoolahan.

Spot on, and even if HRK was fully fit I would still go with this.

We're currently creating 20 plus chances on average a game. The way we are at the moment, teams are needing to put a big score on us to take a point.
I'd be surprised if we didn't get 2 or 3 at least given the way you defend and how good we are going forwards. Whether that's good enough to actually win us the game though is another matter.
-
I've a ticket for the East Stand Upper which I can't use and so is free to a good home (ie an Albion fan!).
Please email your address to alan.jarvis@tandf.co.uk - first come, first served and I can only reply to the lucky person who wins.

Does no-one else fear a reversion to 352?
I think there is a real possibility with Kanu being injured. Neither Gayle or Rodriguez can play wide so the only way to shoehorn them both in would be to change to either 442 or 352. Dare I say it but it could also coincide with Bartley's return to fitness :o
Hope it's just me being pessimistic after last night's disappointment but I think it's a genuine possibility. Please tell me I'm wrong.
-
I think Phillips will need to be pushed further forward
I do worry about having enough legs in midfield if we did this. I think I'd go:
Johnstone
Adarabioyo
Dawson
Hegazi
Gibbs
Phillips
Livermore
Morrison
Barnes
Gayle
Sako
Myhill, Mears, Brunt, Field or Harper, Hoolahan, Leko, Rodriguez

2-1 us, you'll score but dont think youll get as many as you might think.

We created 20+ last night and on another day would have scored 5. The Forest game suggests your defence isn't that good either so I think safe to assume it will finish 0-0!
-
East Stand 39
Brummie Road 76
West Stand 0
Smethwick 0
Remaining 115. Surely these will be gone tomorrow.
-
We're hot and cold defensively. Prone to mistakes, but that's this league all over.
4 out of the last 8 have been clean sheets. I think the Forest game was one of those freak once in a generation games. Very entertaining though.
Like with your defending last night for their goal, I just can't see it being 0-0.
Why did you look so leggy last 15 minutes? Surprised at that.
-
I just don't know how to predict this game. Another 5-5 wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world so knowing the way football works it'll probably be 0-0. ::)
Our defence isn't bad, it really isn't Sam Johnstone has barely had a save to make over four games we just somehow seem to gift every team we play against a goal. Friday would be a great time to stop doing that.
Villa are scoring for fun at the moment so you wouldn't bet against them scoring on Friday and given the fact that I'm used to the jammy fuggers beating us over the years I fully expect they'll do so again.
0-2.
-
Got to be 4-4-2
Johnstone
Adar Daws Hegazi Gibbs
Phillips Livermore Mozza Barnes
JRod Gayle

If we do that on Friday, then Villa win.
Abraham, Grealish and Bolasie would cause a back 3 too many problems.
Stick the formation we have now, but start Gayle.

I would not be in the least bit surprised- and I’m not as against it as some. With the proviso that we don’t expect the back three to play like bobby Moore/Frank beckenbauer. And pass it around on the edge of our own box. That being said it still does not address the fact we don’t have a left sided centre half nor a right wing back.
I would be gobsmacked if we did not make some changes to both personnel and formation on Friday. My particular concern is the number of times in the last couple of games that Tosin is left isolated at right back and either one on one or often with two opposition players bearing down on him. Bolasi and Grealish could double up down our right and have a field day!
-
2-1 Albion
It'll be a great game im sure....just dont want to lose to them...my life will be hell if we dont
-
Right now I'd settle for a high scoring draw, but I'd prefer a 1-0 off someone's shin in the 94th minute.
-

Agree fully. And maybe add some younger legs on bench as an option?

Would you start Gayle through the middle and JRod wide? Think that's better than the other way around but i may be tempted to start Sako wide with Gayle up top.
-
Yes Gayle through middle with JRod wide. I assume that Sako is not fit or why is he not on bench??
-
We can beat them, why be happy with a point? Barcelona or Man City they are not!!
-

Yeah for me Gayle has to play through the middle, hes our best finisher. If he started on Monday and had the chances we missed in the first half, we would have been out of sight.
I also think Jay Rod is better on the wing, if you look back to his Southampton days (when he was close to the England squad), his best form was coming from the wing.
I also think if you pop Jay on the wing, he gives us a bit of physical presence and you can keep Phillips in the middle three.
As someone else has mentioned though, I wouldn't be against throwing Sako in on the wing. (Although I can't see Rodriguez being dropped).
-

Overheard a Viler saying the same thing in the pub last night in regards to us.
You're both quite right, into 'em Albion.

East Stand 16
Brummie Road 42
West Stand 8
Leaving 66 remaining. The West Stand had been sold out so I'm presuming the club have put returned tickets on re-sale now. Have to admit I expected a full sell out by now. Will almost certainly go tomorrow.
-
I reckon we will beat them on Friday but I won't know any thing about it till I wake up early Saturday morning bursting for water , it my birthday and going out all day, a win would be a great present.
-
:D Phillips and Barnes are your wing men in a 442....Gayle and Jrod up front

At least it's not Andre Mariner.

Thankfully he wouldn't, he is a villa fan.
-

me too I was expecting to see it was Lee Mason or maybe Mike Dean. Still he's been okay when he's reffed us so far this season at Forest and at home to Reading.
-
SOLD OUT - Officially.
However, anyone that needs a ticket don'r despair just yet, there are 14 tickets that have been returned currently on sale.
26,000 plus it is then tomorrow.
Would be nice to win in front of a full house for a change.
-
What a fiasco to get mine. Even as ex season ticket would not let me renew membership.had to get mate who's current status holder to get one today for me. Oh well. COYB!
-
Match Day and can't wait for tonight !
Come On Yo Baggies; we need this win tonight; we need to put those arrogant deluded fishy idiots back in their little box.
-
We can beat them, why be happy with a point? Barcelona or Man City they are not!!
Under Smith we're the highest scorers, we have the most passes, most passes completed, the highest average possession and most shots on goal, while averaging the necessary 2 points per game. Can't help but feel we'd be well clear at the top if he'd been in during the summer.
But it is what it is. Must win for us.

As we're playing catch up, it's a side in competition with us, it would be another statement to the league. To absolutely murder Derby and Boro away and then go and beat the Albion would be a sign of intent.
-
It'll be a good game. There should be (kiss of death) be goals in it. Villa are the form side out of the two of us but we are dangerous going forward and look tighter since reverting to a 4-5-1. I'd love a win but can't see past a score draw (2-2) at the moment? A lot will depend on our midfield. I expect Villa to have lots of possession but I think their defence can be got at!
Come on you Baggies!

Into these ******** Albion !!
-
I'm going for a high scoring draw. It's going to be a good game- the sides are well matched -looking forward to it.
-
I just hope their players are as over confident as their fans.
No delusion here, they are a good side but so are we. Could go either way.
-
Excited, but also nervous, could go either way.
Share many of the sentiments above and think it will a high scoring game either way (will be boring 0-0 now i'm sure ::) )
-
Very nervous about this one, I'd imagine they'll target our RB as the weak link in our back 4. The pessimist in me says 3-1 Villa....
-
Dreading this...
-
Dreading this...
Cannot wait for this ;D
-
Come on chaps, have some faith. We all thought we were going to get mullered by the 'strong favourites' Leeds and look what happened there. Villa are a reasonable side who have found a bit of form. We are not too bad ourselves........
Hopefully Mozza will shut Grealish up and Darren will use his substitutions correctly and at the right time.
Will be a good game
COYB!!!!!

3-2, just not sure who to.

Madness ay it?
We should not fear these, Smith's not the feckin messiah.
Darren Moore, however, is the redeemer.
COYB.
We have to beat them anyway, it might be our last chance before they win the European Cup again :D ;D
-
They've already won the European Cup then?
When was that?
Surprised none of them ever mention it......... ;D .
-
I'm ready to cringe my way through the horrendous "all go down" song that will inevitably be sung today; makes me angry.
Want to go up this season, not bloody down.
-
There is a definite almost palpable frisson in the air about this particular game this time around, not sure why maybe it is the Friday night, end of the week thing.
As the only Baggie at my very staid place of work there has been some snarling between myself and a couple of the seals here, if there are others with fish breath they keep their alliances to themselves
COYB!!!!!

Oh yes, that delight will be out in full force tonight :(
-
I have a bad feeling about this one.
We're playing them at just the wrong time, when Smith's making his presence felt and they're picking up positive results. They've also been allowed to cheat FFP, and they have the manager I wanted in the summer, so I'm guessing a really annoying 0-3.

I also have a bad feeling but it’s the championship such an unpredictable league, theve been on an absolute tear so it wouldn’t suprise me if we turned them over 4-0 after they beat borough 3-0 away last weekend, the results are all over the place in this league.
-
Think there will be goals in this and septic peg predicts they will be scored by a man. :P
-
Should stick with 433 with Sako or Burke to replace injured Kanu, Barry to take over from Morrison and Gayle on instead of Rodriguez.
-
Their defence is more suspect than ours of late, ours has tightened up with the formation.
Our strikers and centre backs are more lethal than theirs.
Midfield battle will be crucial.
Were at home our fans roaring us on,well be well up for it tonight 2-0 baggies.
Daws and Gayle.
What's there to worry about?
-
Controversial but i have a feeling DM will go 4--5 - 1..with Brunty installed left midfield...
-
Johnstone
Tosin
Dawson
Hegazi
Gibbs
Morrison
Livermore
Barry
Phillips
Gayle
Barnes
-
Just wish we had a bit more attacking intent right side. Tosin is not the answer there.

A defeat then in that case. >:(
I'm just praying Barnes and Phillips will be on fire and we can give them something to worry about.

Please for the love of God, get it right tonight, Darren.

If we win it might get him a few days relief but you’d be on his back pretty soon after.
-
What a day this would be to get the elusive second clean sheet...
Just hope we use our squad/bench better today COME ON YOU BAGGIES
-
If we win it might get him a few days relief but you’d be on his back pretty soon after.
I just judge it on what I’m watching, no preconceived ideas, and his tactics and decision making has been abysmal all season, what do you want me to say? Oh everything is great despite the fact it’s clearly not based on what I’m watching?
One clean sheet all season. One.
Let’s make it two tonight please
-
COYB. Let's get behind the lads tonight. Whoever wants it more will win.
SOTV

Third in the league. Top scorers.
Tactics abysmlal? Changing from 442 to 3412 to beat Norwich and then going on a great run?
Then adapting his tactics to go 433 to go another excellent run of results?
I genuinely have no idea what you are watching
-
0-2 ;D Will that do you?
Villa fan in disguise??
-

While there has been things I've not agreed with it hasn't been all season , he's got plenty right too.
Seem to remember you being chuffed with the Leeds game after preaching on here about Moore's lack of tactics .
As I say theres things I'm not keen on but lets have a bit of balance please.
-
Hope we win dont think i could stomach the (Should of gone gone for Dean Smith) merchants!
-
Serious question....If we win tonight, does that make us champions of europe?
-
Gayle and Barry both in the starting line up tonight. Harper, Sako and Burke amongst the subs
-
Lots of options from the bench if we fall behind.
-
Would have preferred Gayle for Rodriguez and either Sako or Burke for kanu
-
Watching this in a bar in Florida. 23c and ice cold Tennants. What could possibly go wrong? I’m as nervous as hell, and would give anything to be there. COYB!!!!
-
Would have preferred Gayle for Rodriguez and either for kanu
I’d love to say that they deserve a start but neither has done anything whatsoever to deserve a start. Sako at least has a strong track record behind him. For the record these are the types of players I would love to see on form, but there’s no way they have shown anything to get in the first eleven in such an important game.
-
Morrison a big loss , picked up a knock :(
I'm not a Barry fan yet , impress me tonight !
-
Solid start.
When we are 2 or 3 up...Put Brunt (spit) in, in place of Livermore
-
Please see my link to the Woodman tonight lol

I flipping hate these scum
Get into ‘em Albion
-
COYB
-
Redemption day 4-0 Albion I'm buzzing
-
Ffs
-
Another clean sheet gone.
-
What the hell
-
OK 4-1
-
What is a clean sheet?
-
Gibbs should get closer quicker. cruel deflection off the statue
-
Unfortuantely expected...They are on the up and we are stagnant in the league.
-
Why do we seem top back off in our half?
-
In fairness you can see the effect Smith has had on them. Excellent coach
-
Could Sky be a bit more bias? They should mention the European Cup :-X
We need to keep the pressure on Hutton, he'll crack sooner or later
-
They have the disire to beat us...We need more belief to win.
-
As said...No desire..I can see us going under 0-3 >:(
-
GAYLE EQUALISER!
-
Gayle 1-1
-
OK...1-3 lol
-
Lovely finish, great effort from Barnes.
Game on!
-
Phillips Barnes galye :-*
-
That's why he starts every game if he is fit...or even half fit !!!😁
-
We have scored TWO !!!
Unfortunately 1 in each goal :P
-
I had started typing that Barry and Phillips were asserting their authority in midfield and an equaliser was on the cards when lo and behold Barnes and Gayle worked their magic for the equaliser
-
I've been impressed with livermore this season very
-
After that run by Barnes the odds on Hutton getting a straight red must have shortened considerably...!!!
-
Have we got a "self destruct" button?
-
Tosin is having another mare. Can we please sign a proper right back in January
-
We need a midfieler who can ...hold up...control ......and distibute to one of our own.
-
Have we got a "self destruct" button?
yes the defence frome first game to now it is still woeful, never close down, cant pass and obviously cant be coached
-
They attack 4 or 5..we attack 2 or 3 at the most.
-
Great time for us to score again
-
Have to say John McGinn is arguably the best player I have seen this season. A real cut above this level.
-
What a poor cross by Phillips
-
For me, Barry's lack of mobility is killing us. I don't know of the game is too big for Harper or whether Hoolahan has enough to his game defensively to be better options but we'd be stronger without Barry.
-
What a poor cross by Phillips
Note to Darren...Teach the players how to pass.
-
Creaking at the back so has to be all out attack second half you score we score more.
-
Been the better team. More of the same second half and we’ll win this.
-
Gayle showing Jrod how it's done. Gayle's was the more difficult chance yet made it look easy.
-
We're dominant here lads. What's going on with some of these posts. Vile extremely lucky goal.
-
Jrod woeful , I'd be tempted to either shove him wide and Gayle in the middle or sub him .
How many more times is that number 4 going to stroll through our middle ? , lucky to be level in ways
-
Such an open game my heart can't take much more.
Knew Phillips would smash that free kick at the end into nowhere, other than that hes played well.
Great goal by us, who knows what Hegazi was thinking for theirs.
-
We're dominant here lads. What's going on with some of these posts. Vile extremely lucky goal.
Very !
-
We're dominant here lads. What's going on with some of these posts. Vile extremely lucky goal.
Disagree, they also hit the post and Abraham had a poor 1v1 chance and header. The goal we conceded was unlucky, but as ever should have been closed down more, I noticed they closed down a similar chance from Barnes.
-
A second half like we played against Leeds would be very welcome
-
Needs to switch jrod and Gayle.
Barry doing ok but he's slower than an oil tanker.
Is he going to last the game? Will we be brave enough to play Harper at the end or will we go brunt?
We just need to not muck about at the back and feed Barnes because he has Hutton on toast.
If I was Dean Smith I would be saying get it to bolasie and run at the kid. Next goal is massive
-
For me, Barry's lack of mobility is killing us. I don't know of the game is too big for Harper or whether Hoolahan has enough to his game defensively to be better options but we'd be stronger without Barry.
He is playing really well.
-
We can do this.
Just calm down and play our own players...No hoofing nor back passing too much.
Control and Mooove!
-
Great build up, shame Gayle didn't bury it.
-
Back to hoofing and fouling >:(
-
Second best in most areas..We should be controlling this game.
-
1-2
-
Ffs 1-2
-
We sat back..What did we expect?
-
Barry off wes on
-
No one went to him !!!
-
We are too open...Close their players down EARLY !!!
-
Gibbs again slow to close. He's decent going forward but weak as pooh defensively.
-
Look at back posts..I did say 3-1 to them...We are half soaked and not organised.
-
The basics of defending ...close the opponents down !!!!!!
-
how asleep was Barry then
-
They WANT the ball, our players just want another payday.
-
We need grit and determination.
-
Abraham misses the sitter of all sitters
-
Said it before, but I'm shocked that we're so poor in defence when our HC was a defender...usually a team is strongest in the area that their coach played. Not quite sure what that says...
-
Starting Barry in a fixture of this intensity was absolutely suicidal. Great goal mind. Barry has to be taken off, fresh impetus is needed!
-
shocking defending, should be out this game now. Where's the leadership.
-
Could be 3-1, 4-1 or 5-1 or even 6-1...we are have no midfield, no defence.
-
Seems to have totally lost focus we are slow and laboured really need to make a change eithe4 Barry or Livermore off before they get a 3rd
-
I genuinely fail to remember a game where we have been cut to ribbons like we have this evening. Absolute shambles.
-
Darren you need to make your changes now Barry 1st then jrod
-
can't believe what I'm seeing.
-
Schoolboy stuff from us.
Seen better in a kids' playground.
-
Brunt coming on
-
Doubt we will see any changes until 5 to go...
-
Is this a joke Brunt on for Livermore
-
Brunt for Livermore??????? Am I watching the same game? Surely that should be for Barry?
-
For **** sake Darren why the **** take jake off & not barry
-
Serious pace on the bench and he chooses to ignore it again..
-
Not surprised with Livermore on a yellow if truth be told. We can't get the ball with 11 men let alone 10.
-
So 4-4-2 with Brunt and BArry in the middle? WTF
-
We're always going to be up against it with Moore as manager, his decision making is often too bizarre. A lot of his changes just seem pre-telegraphed and his refusal to make them will hurt is even more as the season goes on.
Of all the games we've been behind in this season, how often have we actually tried to make meaningful positive subs? Usually far too late.
-
Serious pace on the bench and he chooses to ignore it again..
Was DM a vile fan in the past?
-
Why is he so stubborn with substitutes?
-
Was DM a vile fan in the past?
After that substitution I think he still might be...
-
makes you wonder how Gibbs ever got in the England team.
-
Phillips the only player to come out of this game with any credit.
-
Just watched a chance to pass up field through players...We hoofed instead WHY ?????
-
Our manager and players are being laughed at. Grrr >:(
-
Our game has all gone to pot. Four mins plus injury time to go
-
Fprget the history of mid prem...look out for mid chumpionship with this crew.
Oops Forget and not fprget...Ruddy fat fingers !
-
Burke gets 8 minutes...🤣
-
Darren Moore is way out of his depth, and we should have snagged Smith when we had the chance.
-
Each and every player has to take control and not just hope the other players can help them out.
-
Rodriguez!
-
The hand of Rod....!!!!🤣
-
Rodriguez’s hand of God :P
-
V lucky 2-2
-
2 points out of 6 at home...😐
-
Love it
-
Good point. Hold the head high tonight.
-
Very unlucky tonight.
-
Got away with that.
-
"Unlucky"? Villa had by far the better chances and more of them. It was like the brentford game but on the other foot regarding chances.
-
Stole a point...2 out of 6 at home is poor...
-
Got to give them a hand in the end to get the points.
-
Clueless Moore gets out of jail again, abysmal substitutions yet again, no chance we're keeping a clean sheet this season. Villa will get in the automatics if they replace that sh*t keeper in January. If we'd appointed Smith in the summer we'd be top by miles.
-
A point is better than nowt but shouldn't have got that if Abrahams had put away one of his many chances
-
Very lucky to get something, Abraham could have had a hat-trick and Rodriguez's goal was a handball.
Oh well, at least it was against the Villa ;D
-
Poor tonight especially second half, Moore's decision making for substitions is beyond baffling. Happy to get a point against that lot but over the fffing moon that it was the hand of jrod :D ;D :P
-
Stole a point...2 out of 6 at home is poor...
But 6 points from two away games was pretty good wasn’t it.
-
Our inconsistency is absolutely mind blowing. I don't blame Moore completely for that either. There were times tonight when it looked like we had dopplegangers out there.
What I don't like is the selection of Barry. The failure to attempt to address being steam rollered with any tactical changes or personnel changes until far too late.
-
The same problem at the back, we give them too much space around the box.
Luckily J-Rod got a point for us at last. ;D
-
I didn't think villa were anything but average, we face an uphill task to get promoted simply because we are krap in defence.
-
Fair result I thought
Villa are hugely improved under Smith
Barnes and Gayle quiet tonight even though the 2 combined to score
I really enjoyed that game I gotta be honest, great advert for the championship
Should have beat Brentford
Not happy but not unhappy
Hand of Rod
McGinn is a decent player
-
Typical derby , our weak areas shown up tonight .
Old , slow midfielders trying to be played in an open fashion , suicide and can only hope some mobile midfieders arrive soon.
Yes Villa are decent going forward but as with the better teams if you let them shoot in good positions they will score , we don't seem learn this lesson do we ? Foster isn't in goal anymore.
Frustrating really just as wasting Gayle out wide , biggest joke was Jrod getting the goal as I thought he was woeful .
Never want to lose to them , pleased we didn't but this isn't good enough. As for the suicide tip tapping about in our own area......again we don't learn.
-
Good game between two good sides I thought. Adarabioyo played well and got tight to Bolasie whilst I felt that Barry and his lack of mobility really hindered us.
Moore seems to have settled on this 433 where Rodriguez drops in to help the midfield when we haven't got the ball whilst leaving the wingers high. If we had a left footed Barnes equivalent on the right we'd be a real force, need to be on the lookout in January.
Shame we didn't get the 3 points against Brentford as now we are 6 points behind the 2 point per game average required to seal automatic promotion. 3 additions in the window, right back, central midfield and left footed forward player and we can really make an assault on top 2.
-
But 6 points from two away games was pretty good wasn’t it.
And 6 points from these 2 games would have put us top...
-
Excellent game and an excellent point against the form team in the league. They had plenty of chances and played well yet their goals were a deflection and a superb strike.
Thought we competed well and kept going showing the fighting spirit you need in this league.
Subbing Livermore made little sense to me and perhaps we can put any talk of Brunt and Burke to bed. Brunt was poor and Burke did nothing. Thought Barry was excellent. Picking out a purple of points where he showed a lack of pace does not characterise his performance. I’d still see Morrison start when he can.
-
And 6 points from these 2 games would have put us top...
So you expect us to win 6 games in a row and because we haven’t, against the form team in the league and a very capable Brentford side, let alone a run that includes Leeds, it’s unacceptable?
Laughable.
-
So you expect us to win 6 games in a row and because we haven’t, against the form team in the league and a very capable Brentford side, let alone a run that includes Leeds, it’s unacceptable?
Laughable.
Yes I'm afraid you are...
-
About time we had some luck against that lot. The hand of rod as it shall go down in folklore.
We were pretty poor overall in that game we had a spell before and just after half time but not much else.
Subs were baffling. Barry and brunt axis is even more of a regression than brunt and Livermore.barry did well first hour than he needed switching. Bar his handball at the end jrod was abysmal we need Gayle through the middle.
Burke was terrible when he came on and we were largely at sea in the second half, if Abraham could finish we would have been put to bed.
We haven't lost and we fought back twice and the way we equalised will have that lot moaning for quite a while so can't argue with that.
-
Yes I'm afraid you are...
So to clarify, you expected us to win every single one of the last six fixtures? Just want to check. Please, please reply.
-
Missed Mozza and HRK badly but still took a worldie and a huge deflection to get anything from us. Brunt superb when he came on as was Barnes throughout. Shame Gayle couldn't make more of his chances.
-
Hate this match so only tuned in at half time and with about 10 minutes to go so am relieved we didn't lose to the scum onwards to the next match.
-
I stated that 6 points would have put us top in reply to your 6 points from the last 2 games...i never said I expected us to win the games it was just a statement.. ..i also didn't put a derogatory comment like your "laughable"..
-
2-2 a good result considering our performance.
Lets crack on now
-
We had pace, or pace and power and young talent with fresh legs on the bench. None of it used. We got 2 now slow old guys and got a lucky draw. I thought villa got away with some pretty nasty tackles early on when we looked as if we were going to break out, but got the deserved break with the handball. I have tried to stop criticising refs but I do wish the same rules were made to apply to both sides. As each villa player got tackled their first move was a dive and a screech like virgin in a brothel. This meant that we were never allowed to challenge for the ball with any purpose and had to let them run. Stlll they scored a lucky goal and a very good one and so did we. Missed goal chances and general errors apart they should have won. But so should we against Brentford.
-

Agree with much of what you say. I thought JRod was better than you suggest but he had a heavy touch which robbed him of a great chance in the second half which was frustrating. I agree Gayle should have played in the centre as he often left Tosin with little option out wide.
We do need a future in centre midfield and we know that three of the four centre midfielders aren’t the future. We also need a right back as despite Tosins obvious talent, he’s not a right back.
-
Missed Mozza and HRK badly but still took a worldie and a huge deflection to get anything from us. Brunt superb when he came on as was Barnes throughout. Shame Gayle couldn't make more of his chances.
really liked his corner at the death that went sailing over everybody.
-
Jrod did nothing all game, was like playing with a man down. I'd go with HRK playing deeper and Gayle through the middle.
Brunt and Burke offered nothing when they came on.
-
I stated that 6 points would have put us top in reply to your 6 points from the last 2 games...i never said I expected us to win the games it was just a statement.. ..i also didn't put a derogatory comment like your "laughable"..
I said the comment was laughable whereas you got personal so just take a breath. You clearly expected us to win these two fixtures. This is the Championship. It’s an incredibly difficult league. We will do well to be promoted.
-

He put Burke on!!!
-
Putting words in my mouth again...its your problem if you misinterpreted my message...breathing easy thank you.. and after supporting the club for 45 years I don't expect anything I can assure you..
-
Awful performance, got away with murder. We have no tactics.
-
Missed Mozza and HRK badly but still took a worldie and a huge deflection to get anything from us. Brunt superb when he came on as was Barnes throughout. Shame Gayle couldn't make more of his chances.
Brunt did nothing superb at all. Not one great pass or tackle. Nothing. But he did give the ball away. He is not an impact sub.
-
Putting words in my mouth again...its your problem if you misinterpreted my message...breathing easy thank you.. and after supporting the club for 45 years I don't expect anything I can assure you..
Ok. I’m sorry. So what was your point? What did you actually mean?
-
Jrod did nothing all game, was like playing with a man down. I'd go with HRK playing deeper and Gayle through the middle.
Brunt and Burke offered nothing when they came on.
Good shout, hope we get a proper right back, left footed central defender, dynamic midfielder, striker in January window, perhaps funded by Jrod depature to Burnley :-*
-
Missed Morrison massively, got away with it.
"Hand of Rod" (coined on the 74)
-
No apologies needed....my point was that although we are taking good points away from home and looking a better side..we have let points slip at home...today was always going to be tough but we should have put Brentford away ..would never suggest the the Championship is a cake walk there are many sides arguably bigger than us who have been here for many years who can vouch for that..
-
Barnes ripped Hutton apart 1st half so Smith switched him to the other side, Moore should've done the same with Barnes to keep the pressure on Hutton.we lost the central driving runs from Phillips second half and pumped more high balls into the box that's not really our strength even though we scored from a cross. handball but I couldn't give a toss against them tossers.
-
No apologies needed....my point was that although we are taking good points away from home and looking a better side..we have let points slip at home...today was always going to be tough but we should have put Brentford away ..would never suggest the the Championship is a cake walk there are many sides arguably bigger than us who have been here for many years who can vouch for that..
The knee jerk criticism is what gets to me. The big picture in my view is that we are doing really well.
Pulis killed us and Pardew buried us. Moore is reviving us.
We may well not go up but we are making a decent attempt and pride is restored.
-
Brunt did nothing superb at all. Not one great pass or tackle. Nothing. But he did give the ball away. He is not an impact sub.
hes not an impact sub or a first team player offers nothing at all, time to move him on and his big wages, very lucky point again get alot of luck really Darren Moore still out of his depth but sure he will say the right things again in the press
-
We are clearly lacking a younger / peak age forward thinking midfielder. Morrison has been decent but no better than that. We didn't miss him massively tonight. Barry was decent but no better than that. Brunt not on for long, one decent ball but not much else. Superb - No.
Hate to say it but Hutton's block from Barnes's shot was good defending and possibly a turning point. We tired again which may be expected as we are not a young team and 2 days less to recover/prepare. Overall not a bad point, but a lucky equaliser.
-
It's not often we get lucky, especially against them. They're in great form and we did well to respond twice, I'll happily take a jammy draw to deny them a win.
Fair result overall. Their best player was a defender, Hutton, he make some brilliant blocks even though he was at fault for our first goal.
-
The knee jerk criticism is what gets to me. The big picture in my view is that we are doing really well.
Pulis killed us and Pardew buried us. Moore is reviving us.
We may well not go up but we are making a decent attempt and pride is restored.
It's anything but knee jerk, we are suffering with the same issues we have seen ALL season.
We SHOULD be making a decent attempt at coming back up considering the quality of players we have. What's frustrating is writing off of well deserved criticism with things like "well, we are doing alright" or "we are top scorers". We have clear faults in the way we set up and play and they are not being addressed.
-
I agree Villa should have put the game to bed but they let us back in it last 10 minutes and they were hanging on I think we got what we deserved in the end.
-
Stole a point...2 out of 6 at home is poor...
Or to pick out the positives - unbeaten in the last two home games (actually the last three)?
-
Villa were really average but we were so poor that we made them look great. Baffling tactics and subs again but somehow we scrape a point. As an Albion fan I'll go to bed happy tonight inspite of the negatives.
-
Clueless Moore gets out of jail again, abysmal substitutions yet again, no chance we're keeping a clean sheet this season. Villa will get in the automatics if they replace that sh*t keeper in January. If we'd appointed Smith in the summer we'd be top by miles.
Yeah, because everybody knows that football works like that...?
-
Soooo happy!!! They must hurt so much. Anyone who who was there...you were a part of history. Forget tactics. It was a game bigger than that. To equalize the way we did makes it so much sweeter. SOTV 😂
-
And 6 points from these 2 games would have put us top...
But third in the table is not bad at this stage - considering some believe that we have a “clueless†manager in charge...?
-
Given up on Moore changing it from bench when his tactical nouse is to replace Livermore with Brunt. Defending has been laughable this season and that's on his back, having no body in midfield to control play is concerning so I hope we address this in January.
-
Barnes ripped Hutton apart 1st half so Smith switched him to the other side, Moore should've done the same with Barnes to keep the pressure on Hutton.we lost the central driving runs from Phillips second half and pumped more high balls into the box that's not really our strength even though we scored from a cross. handball but I couldn't give a toss against them tossers.
This is the key point. We stopped feeding Barnes and starting going long ball. We could have switched him to the other wing as he was terrorising Hutton. 8 points from 12 or 11 from 15 either way it's not bad. The Brentford result is the kicker
-
But third in the table is not bad at this stage - considering some believe that we have a “clueless†manager in charge...?
W
I certainly am not qualified to label any manager as clueless...
-
Don’t understand some of the digs at Barry. I thought he was excellent in the first half. Some of his passing was sublime, reads the game better than most of our midfielders. Yeah agree he hasn’t got the legs for 90 minutes, he did well! Jayrod wasn’t that bad either, put himself about. My main worry is Johnson, he never gets anywhere to any shots from outside the area all season, really not convinced with him Anyway happy with a point,&move on. Lot more winnable games coming up. SOTV. Boing boing
-
I take it the celebrators are celebrating. :P
-
I think Barry showed today his passing is still the best we have at the club, did well for the first hour until tiredness came in, Livermore was knackered but Brunt not the answer, the midfield needs legs in this league, Derby showed it and so did Villa tonight.
Rodriguez should have made way for Burke or even Sako after Burke had came on, yes Rodriguez got the equaliser but I bet 99% of us would have taken him off by then.
We got a point where we deserved nothing. My thoughts on this season still not changed, at this stage we will still be lucky to scrape the play-offs. January needs investment in the middle of the pitch.
-
Baffled by some of comments on here. Thought we were the better side for the first 35 minutes but lost control at the end of the half. We played well in the second too until the wonder goal knocked the stuffing out of us. The lads looked like they were running on adrenaline and just seemed shattered. Yes, the Vile - clearly a good side who will be right up there come May - should have put us away afterwards and we (FOR ONCE) got lucky against them at the end but we were worth the point. Some positive signs.
On an aside, I thoroughly enjoyed our modified version of the Liquidator and it was nice to hear the return of the Albion roar, albeit sporadically. As always, our support was just different class to the Vilers. Cringeworthy.
-
Villa were really average but we were so poor that we made them look great. Baffling tactics and subs again but somehow we scrape a point. As an Albion fan I'll go to bed happy tonight inspite of the negatives.
Thought Villa looked a decent team out there tonight, tidy and full of running in midfield with pace and some skill out wide....If they let Smith strengthen in January i have them as a good bet for top 2. We were ok but the better teams in this division highlight our weaknesses.
Yes Barry has good vision and touch and I only wish he was 5 years younger as there are times when players just run past him. Livermore struggled at times and looks twice the player with Mozza alongside him....we did miss Jimmy tonight for that ability to break forward. I like Tosin and he is a decent defender but he is a centre back and offers no out ball.
A few other things.....DM gave Burke a few minutes and he did himself no favours at all. Showed no real drive or hunger.....he should watch how Gayle closes and chases players down. Not writing him off on that 10 minutes but he needs to go out on loan and play football and we need Sakho match fit asap.
Brunty did ok in his cameo, NOT a CM but did his best to drive us forward the last 5 mins.
Barnes was inconsistent tonight but seems to conjure up one piece of magic per game, we need to enjoy him whilst we have him.
Hand of Jrod 🤣 loved that goal.....much better finisher with his arm than his feet.
On the whole i don't think Darren Moore is far off considering the weaknesses in the squad he inherited. Still much to do and lessons to learn, but if your going to have some luck.....have it against the seals 😁
COYB. SOTV.

First half I thought we were alright.
Second half, I didn't really understand how we were trying to play. Playing it out from the back and then hoofing it to Gayle? Villa look like they have a set way of playing and it may have been due to being 2-1 up, but they should have been out of sight before our goal at the end.
I'm only repeating what many, many others are saying here but we desperately NEED legs in the middle of the pitch. What we would do for a player like John McGinn.
Play offs at best at the moment with the current squad.

I’m on my own in Florida celebrating cheating the vile, and all I read here is tactics. Where is the joy of celebration? We cheated a goal. Lap it up. ;D

Don't worry....We laughed all the way home from the ground 😂 seeing the poor little seals pointing desperately at a blank tv screen will stay long in the memory. As if we were about to show them the goal!
And my youngest now believes me when I say that you never know what will happen until that whistle blows!! Happy Baggy tonight.

Even the most ardent Albion fan will admit that 'goal' papered over the cracks massively for you lot. If Abraham has his shooting boots on, we win that 4-1. Even if he doesn't we win 2-1 with a linesman who can see.
We looked head and shoulders above you lot second half. Our midfield ran the show and our team looks much more balanced.
We will be well ahead of you come May. Smith is a million times better than Moore and you'll regret not getting him in the summer.

I know....that's what made the equaliser so enjoyable 😁
We could have had Smith, and i think you have a cracking manager, but no regrets we showed loyalty and took a punt on an Albion legend and one of our own. He's doing ok.
-
Baffled by some of comments on here.
Barry was the best player on the park in an Albion shirt. Brunt waste of a substitution as usual Gayle not in the game and the goalkeeper is a joke. I hate the Villa with a passion but they were the better team tonight and we got away with it.
-
Well where do we start?
Team selection was interesting. Where was Morrison? I stated previously I would've rested him in one of the previous two game to have him available and sharp tonight but Darren didn't and for whatever reason Barry came in tonight and did OK. Kanu out and DM decided to go with Gayle on the right, didn't work for me despite the goal.
From first minute to last except a ten minute spell at the start of the second half Villa looked the better team. They seemed a bit sharper, a yard quicker and seemed to want it more which I'm sure wasn't the case. I think it's a case of them getting us at the right time when we seem a bit leggy and a congested schedule and us getting them at the wrong time when they are on a good run under a new manager and with two days extra rest in them.
It wasn't a good night for us. Barnes's pass for the opening goal and Gayle's finish were top drawer, other than that not a lot offered. Phillips tried his heart out and Barnes had a spell at the start of the second half where he really looked like he fancied it but other than that pretty lacklustre.
I need to see the goals we conceded again before commenting on the defending but clearly once again we're not defending well enough.
The equaliser - HAND OF ROD! ;D
Look, we got lucky but down the years when have we ever had any sort of luck like that? It doesn't happen for us, never has, well tonight, for once, that massive lucky break went our way, we'll bloody well take it.
Overall, Villa deserved the win and had they taken their chances they'd have got it. I'm sure we will be a bit better for the rest we can now have till the next game.
-

I hate Villa as much as anyone else, but the fact that we've had to resort to cheating because we cannot change the game through tactics/substitutions is hardly worth celebrating.
I'll celebrate when we keep a clean sheet, or if Moore ever makes a substitution that has a positive effect on the game.

He did away at Sheffield weds?
However, I'm struggling to get some decisions, Barry was ok, like Morrison against Brentford needed changing after an hour
And I don't understand the order he uses people, Sakho was good vs Blackburn...then gone, then tonghtbfrom nowhere Burke

Wow, football Grinch. I'd cheat every minute of every day if it guaranteed wins over the Vile and Dingles. Clean sheet at some point would be nice though.
-
Thought Gibbs should of been quicker out to
Elgazi for both goals ,for a player of his supposed quality
We should be seeing more from him he shouldn’t be given the runaround by any winger in this division
-
Square Pegs, Square Pegs, Square Pegs, Square Pegs, Square Pegs, Square Pegs, Square Pegs & Round Holes. Nothing has changed even though everyone else can see it. If Brunt is the answer what is the question?
Defenders who cant pass being asked to play like Barcelona, our best goalscorer on the wing. I give up!!

Cheating? It looked ok on first time of viewing at proper speed, and both officials had obscured views. If Nat Lofthouse had scored that nobody would have complained. Hard cheese on the Villa.
-
Didn't deserve it but who cares! Bet those who left in the 80th minute feel daft...
-
Attendance was officially 26,513. Now here is the surprising bit. Villa fans numbered 2,617 which is some 120 short of the number Leeds brought to the Hawthorns last month. Not sure how that is the case but those are the official figures.
23,896 sees the biggest home attendance of the season beating the turnout vs Bolton on the opening day by 514.
-
He scores with his hand, he scores with his haaaaand, Jay Rodriguez, he scores with his hand!
It wasn’t us at our fluent best but I think we all recognise Villa are a new proposition under Smith and the division’s in form side. I thought it was a very even game and a point isn’t a bad result. Let’s see how we feel about the result after the rest of the weekend’s games.
If Leeds, Pulisball FC or Norwich drop points then a draw at home to villa Isn’t the end of the world. COYB ahead of Sheff Utd next weekend!!
-
Only saw the highlights, but from what I saw Villa went for it and created far more clear cut chances. The big positive for us was having the character to come back at the end. I thought Gayle's goal was brilliant except the class player he is made it look simple. Barry has still got a damned good pass in him. JRod showed a lot of guts to go in where it hurt at the end, and sometimes you only get the lucky rub of the green if you go in where it hurts. On balance, think we can be satisfied with the point, although we must keep in touch with the top 2.
-
Anyone who can read a game of football can see why it went the way it did, they got a lucky opening goal from a huge deflection and were able to create several chances as we chased an equaliser. Then they re-took the lead with a worldie and low and behold created chances while we chased a second equaliser. At nil nil we dominated the game. At 1-1 we dominated the game. We'll win the league, they'll have to settle for play offs.
We're by far the better side.
Oh and just for McSkittle: Hand of Rod ;D

I know you are a wind up merchant so not going to bite particularly but "we dominated the game" ;D. Come on, no-one is buying that. The opening ten minutes of the second half yes other than that not to anyone that has eyes.
Hand of Rod. The club shop seriously need to get t-shirts printed.

You dominated the first 5 minutes of the second half, that was about it.
We were the better side, created the only clear cut chances. Poor finishing and two handballs cost us.
Disappointing to drop 2 points, but it could prove a useful point should we beat Stoke and Leeds.

No mate we dominated until you scored, then we lost our way a little, we pushed men forward leaving you with too much space, pretty much the same as leeds did with us, difference is we had the cutting edge in that game and you didn't last night. To be honest I was expecting a lot more from Villa considering the run you had been on, I think if hutton didnt make that goal saving block on around 50 mins we would have cruised it and we would have capitalised on the space you would of left with barnes Jrod and gale on the break

You need to remember where you were a few months ago mate....

Barry was the best player on the park in an Albion shirt.
A few people have said this but I read it totally differently. I thought that his lack of mobility and legs to get near the opposition midfield really hurt us; maybe harsh but I thought he should have got out for the first goal rather than wait for Gibbs, who clearly was of the same mindset as he hesitated. May also be harsh but he got easily beaten by Grealish for the second who gave the ball to El Ghazi. Granted Barry did play the ball well through the lines on a couple of occasions.
I think that fact that both he and Livermore were in there meant we lost something. I think going forward it needs to be one of them for that deeper central role, we don't get as much from midfield with them both in there.
-
Henry,Maradona, J.Rod -What a fantasy forward line- What a basketball team! ;) I thought it was well matched overall. Some of Barry's long passing was excellent, exposing Hutton most of the first half.Still a lot of room for improvement.
-
Cheating? It looked ok on first time of viewing at proper speed, and both officials had obscured views. If Nat Lofthouse had scored that nobody would have complained. Hard cheese on the Villa.
I've just looked at it on the sky highlights, there was no cheating, it hit JR on the back of his hand as it went in. There was absolutely no intent.
We've all seen goals disallowed for that, but we've also seen them given.
Luck was on our side last night, but cheating! no.

You've hit a bit of form, but don't get too carried away, football tends to bite back.
-
Barry did his job when he play alongside Livermore.
But after Brunt came on, Barry played a little bit higher on the pitch, then his his lack of mobility was exposed.
Should be replaced by Hoolahan or Harper for the last 10 mins.
-
I think there have been signs of more fluidity in our play in the last two games, but the lack of speed and legs in midfield is an obvious limitation.
Also, the thing that worries me is that whatever anyone says or what Puel may have hinted at, Barnes could leave in Jan. Phillips could easily get injured. These two are the only ones who are tried, trusted and who have both quality AND pace and provide 90% of our penetration. The thought of us without one of them is worrying, without both of them...well just doesn't bare thinking about.
-

Like the other chap says, if Abraham turns up, it's 4-1. They weren't difficult chances, but they were missed nonetheless
Bar your first goal, did you create anything clear cut? Gayle skied a header second half, but it was huff and puff and you quickly ran out of ideas.
I draw a lot of confidence from how we play. Derby, Forest, Boro, Albion and Small Heath. All were or are above us, but we've been comfortably better than all of them, with the chances we had, should have won them all too and scored 17. This is supposed to be our difficult run too. We'll strengthen in January and be fine.
Best signing you could make in January would be a manager. Bizarre to shoehorn your best forward in out wide.
-

Mate he missed one sitter you let us back in the game after we scored there only looked like one team who was going to go on and win the game.

And how do you think the game would have gone if you hadn't have fluked the first goal? I'll tell you. We score first, you chase the game & we destroy you on the counter, similar to our Leeds game. Significant that while the game was level we were the dominant team & looking the most likely including the last 5 minutes when our guys were dead on their feet. You should say a huge thanks to Sky playing against a team who had less than 4 days rest whilst Vile had more than 6!
Agree on the manager front. Pity you didn't get Henry.

Agreed he did not move his hand, completely accidental and rightly the goal stood.
As for the chances the villa missed, they also scored two very lucky goals. One took two defections and was an o
g. the other was a rocket which could easily have gone wide.
-
Villa were not the better team!
You played well but you were not the better team
We were not really at the races today and still looked a cut above the majority of the match...
-
I'm still trying to process last night. Anyone have any idea what we were trying to do tactically during the game? There is no instruction from the top in terms of a style of play, or a way in which we set up. We are now reverting back to the joyous playing it out from the back with defenders who are not comfortable on the ball whilst our manager stands there clapping his hands and whistling, before going down the tunnel whilst we were 2-1 down and in need of inspiration for his matchly dump.
The Villa, on the other hand, were well set up and would have won it comfortably if Abraham hadn't spurned a couple of great chances. I envy them, they have a manager of some note who has some semblance of an idea what he is doing, ours just sticks 11 players on the pitch and hopes Gayle and Barnes fire.

Agree on the awful tip tapping about but clearly our plan was to work the flanks which we do pretty well . There is a plan but right now we don't have the right players to do it , Villa on the other hand are loaded with attacking players as seen last night .
Why we seem to have started floating balls in both last night and the Brentford game is beyond me though , theres no Taylor / Dichio / Bednar . We don't have one forward who can head a ball.
-
Don't know how I feel this morning! Taking the last week into perspective, conceding a late goal against Brentford hence dropping points (mightily drunk off by the inability to keep a clean sheet again) then, the outright delight of nailing a point off the Vile our nearest & dearest (for some admittedly) with a decidedly dodgy looking goal!
However, in the cold light of day, points wise we'd have been better off beating Brentford & losing to the Vile (did I really just say that?)
Still I suppose taking points off them in a promotion sense was probably required & we didnt lose to the b@st@rds
-

If that's what you genuinely think, then fair enough. You're wrong like. But all about opinions, even unjustifiable ones.
To the other chap. Abraham missed a free header first half and of course the tap in. He missed 3 or 4 chances.
You don't score them, you leave yourself open. That you didn't create another goal scoring opportunity of any more though shows we did it well the other way. To control the ball with your hand and then palm it in...
That's two World Cup 86 goals I've seen in two derbies of late.
-
Jrod didn't palm it in. Have another look on the highlights. He challenges the keeper for the cross probably with his eyes closed, he then puts his hands out to save his fall which a natural reaction. This isn't a Maradona incident.
Villas goals were from outside the box, one a massive deflection the other a great strike.
The best 2 moves of the game resulted in Albion goals.
For the miss of the season see Jrod v Brentford.
It was a really good match fair play to both sides.
-
We had a bit of luck last night and it's about time. I offered the HAND of friendship last night to a vile fan after the game but he told me to f**k off.
-
When you think we lost Morrison in the morning ,lost HRK as the hold up , playing a expensive Villa side under the new manager honeymoon , two games in 4 days .....I have to give credit to the players to keep going until the death and be happy with the point.
-
Who is coaching the defence? Last night they were reverting back to start of season trying to over elaborate with their passing and in second half hoofing balls forward. Closing down was terrible and that contributed to goals, under this manager it is becoming painfully obvious that we will have no control of game through midfield and as for his substitions they will not influence game.

The first goal certainly was. OK it was a lucky deflection but Gibbs simply has to show more desire to close the shot down. Perfectly avoidable goal. The second goal, their fella makes a run on the overlap which Gibbs makes a move towards covering (correctly) and their player hits a worldie. I'd hold my hands up on the second goal. Maybe a slight question over Sam Johnstone? Every time someone shoots from outside the box it seems to go in. As a goalkeeper Johnstone should be concerned about the amount of goals he's conceding from long range.

IMO the Brunt substitution was to get accurate passes to our wide players, with Berk brought on to play wide.
The intention being, to stretch their back line across the pitch, giving us space in the middle.
I believe it worked.
-
Thought Burke was borderline lazy when he came on.
-
From the Kick off we had possession of the ball for all of ten seconds. An almighty diagonal hoof out to the right wing goes flying out for a Villa throw. That seemed to set the pattern for our passing style for the match. We just do not keep possession for any length of time.
Crosses, free kicks and corners are, mostly, either too short to the first defender or too long past the entire field. Not just this match but in most of our games It all looks so amateur.
Other teams, luckily are often just as rubbish at doing this so it balances out but we shouldn't have to rely on the crappiness of other teams.
-
Thought we looked the better side until they scored then they had about 10 minutes , then we were back in control, deservedly got the equaliser and then controlled the second half until they scored again, then they had 15 mins or so when they could have scored a couple more but didn't before we got back in control again.
Yes we got lucky with the equaliser but it wasn't deliberate handball, just that the ball hit his hand. Presumably that's what the assistant told the ref and that's why the goal stood. I was amazed that the ref allowed it considering how much he'd given them in the previous 90 mins.
Yes Villa had some good chances when we were trying to get back into the game but they didn't create that much in reality and most of the shots on target they had were like back passes.
I thought Barnes had yet another below par game, showed great tenacity for the Gayle goal but didn't do much else and needs to learn that sometimes passing is better than shooting. I would have taken him off for Sako but equally Rodriguez could have been subbed.
McGinn looked good for them once Barry tired and Grealish was his usual self falling over at every opportunity. Tosin had a tough time with Bolasie and Al Ghazi hit a worldie for the second but apart from that I thought they looked ordinary.
We didn't deserve to win the game but neither did they so a draw was a fair result.
-
The first half was even fare, although we created more. I thought we dominated the second half by and large, which seems to be reflected elsewhere.
I think you're deluding yourself to be honest. Unless you're chumming the water. You'll need a bigger boat.
-

I thought we were edged the first half, even after the flukey first goal had changed the balance of the play.
In the 2nd we were on top until the worldie of a second put you ahead. After that we were poor and you were on top for 15+ minutes and we were lucky to not go further behind with Abraham missing a sitter. In the last 10 minutes we showed plenty of resilience which ended in us getting a flukey goal of our own.
Your best player was possibly Hutton. The difference between his performance at RB and Adaraboiyo's was stark and was IMO largely down to experience. Hutton makes all the right decisions while Adaraboiyo sometimes makes poor ones, cheaply giving away possession etc. He is still learning.
Make no mistake though, we did not play well last night, especially in the second half, a definite off-day, which considering we only had 4 days rest in a way is not that surprising.
I think their is little between the two teams and expect both to be challenging for the top 2 spots towards the end of the season.
-

i am sure you didn't watch the same game gayle had a very good chance just before we scored our second when he shot when he could have squared it for Barnes and when it was 2-2 we had the chance that fell to Gibbs in the box and it smacked it straight at your keeper.
-
Villa impressed me to be fair. Would love to have a midfielder like McGinn. We kept going and was pleased about that. We move the ball from midfield too slowly for me and this was a key difference between the two sides.
-
Thought Villa showed what having a good mobile midfield can do - McGinn and Grealish kept control of the tempo. I'd love McGinn in our side - great footballer with a good engine. If we had a midfield that had some legs and was not bordering a pensioners home then we'd be beating teams far more comfortably. We have to address that issue. Those sides with energy and bite have more often than not caused us problems
We was obviously lucky with the equaliser but having been soaked in urine ten minutes prior by those fvcking imbeciles, I am not at all bothered.
Not sure Gayle and Rodriguez in the same team with this formation works to be honest - we lost Gayle's best instincts and Rodriguez is often anonymous.
-

It helps with McGinn and Grealish that they are both grest ball carriers. They can pick up possession, carry it 30 yards and play between the lines.
With a combination of Barry, Brunt and Livermore we do not have that luxary. Morrison and Phillps are without doubt our better pairing in the middle.
Our midfield is slow and ponderous because they do not have the energy to get around the pitch - instead we dilly dally in possession and allow the opposition time to get organised
We really have to adddress the midfield issue in January
-
We need to go all out for Bradley Dack in Jan window.
-
Wasn't allowed in by the stewards apparently ?
-
We need to go all out for Bradley Dack in Jan window.
Agree - we're not going to pay the price for him and our token bet in the summer was to pacify the supporters
The problems are a bit deeper however, although Dack would be a great addition.
-
We need to go all out for Bradley Dack in Jan window.
not going to spend f all excuses are already doing the rounds still have overdraft, loans and extensions of short term contracts will be our model.

I don't think you created anything clear cut and quickly ran out of ideas. We were the better side, didn't win, it happens.
I guess you can take comfort from showing resilience and coming back, albeit with a huge dollop of luck and officiating incompetence. We can take positives from a third tough away game where we've been the better side.
I imagine we both wish we'd have appointed Smith in the summer.
-
If that's what you genuinely think, then fair enough.
I do genuinely think that and no I’m not wrong...it’s not an opinion it’s a fact
Sorry to burst your bubble

Funny as!!
You were not the better side...doesn’t matter how many times you say it
On the balance of play is say the draw was a fair result but we were nowhere near our best yet you lot were at your very best..still couldn’t beat us

Stewards are complete bells
Why wouldnt they let that in??
-
The majority of your own supporters seem to be able to acknowledge we were the better side. The neutrals seem to have acknowledged it as well. We played the better more fluid football, as one of your number put it. We created by far and away the better chances and any other day we'd win 3 or 4-1 fairly comfortably. As it happens a double handball gets you out of jail.
You'd resorted to long diagonal balls and huffed and puffed without forcing much of note after 50 minutes.
I had you down as automatic candidates, but having seen you twice in a week, unless you get a manager in who knows that Gayle belongs down the middle and that your midfield isn't a retirement home, I think it's Play Offs at best.
You can dress your opinions as what you like or delude yourself as to what happened as much as you like. It's not me you're lying to, so crack on.
See you in February.

To be fair you haven't seen the best of us. We look a little jaded at the moment, we've had a tough schedule and not rotated players. You got us at the right time. You really should have beat us but you didn't.
-
No that's a fair point. You look more short of ideas this week, I acknowledge that's not necessarily systemic. But reading the comments and the hearing the moans and groans in the crowd last night, I don't think everybody is convinced about Moore.
Our schedule has been on paper very difficult;
Derby away
Blues home
Forest home
Boro away
Albion away
Stoke home
Leeds home
Yet we've been the better side in all of them so far. Two more from the run to go.
-
Thought Burke was borderline lazy when he came on.
needs a kick up the pants if you ask me, Jimmy lay one on him.
-
Have to say i thought Villa were comfortably the better side.
In the formation we played, it was apparent on Monday when HRK went off at half time and Mozza faded early second half, that those two are crucial to that setup.
Last night we tried to do all our attacking down the left, it worked to a degree, but it was also predictable, we didnt seem to have another creative option, Phillips (who i think has been our player of the season so far) looks far better in centre midfield when he has Mozza alongside him.
Both sides had spells of possession, the difference was i felt Villa had more purpose during their spells, we had a couple of Gayle chances but we didnt really create anything of note, they on the other hand, quite often assisted by us defending poorly had several good chances.
I thought they used the ball better than us and got up the pitch quicker (our first goal we did to be fair) McGinn looks a class act for them and is exactly what we need, a box to box midfielder with some bite who can pass too, i think they brought him for £3m in the summer, we should of been all of over that.
The worry would be out the top ten teams, we have only beat two, Leeds and Norwich and when we beat Norwich first away game, they were nowhere near the team they are now. I had a feeling start of the season we may be flat track bullies and i think we are to an extent, however we are in the playoffs and if we can stay around there til January then would hope the squad is freshened up.
Are the likes of Hoolahan, Field, Burke going to play? If not let them go. Do we really need Barry, Brunt, Livermore and Field to all do the sitting role in midfield? If not sell one of them even if its unpopular. (Livermore seems to sit more and more nowadays, he is built like a unit and i think its affecting his mobility) its okay saying you need a big squad for the championship but we dont really use a fair few of them.
As for Villa i was quite impressed, they looked a good side and if they carry on as they are they will coast the league. However they are still in the honeymoon period, whoever came in after Bruce had a free hit, all Villa fans wanted was some better football and entertainment, they have now got that and the results have come too.
The test will come when they have a blip, they may not like it but they are and have always been very fickle (most modern fans are now, Albion included) but Villa are some of the worst, they do have an expectancy, in some ways its justified because they are a traditional big club, however football has changed and in modern day terms, they arent one of the big boys.
Will also be a test for Dean Smith, he is a good manager, however previous to Villa he has managed smaller clubs who have never really challenged or expected to challenge for anything, at Villa now, the better they do, the more is expected, will be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure of going for a full season of expectation.

Post of the year that. Fantastic post. Not certain about the flat track bully theory but other than that absolutely spot on.

When you think we lost Morrison in the morning ,lost HRK as the hold up , playing a expensive Villa side under the new manager honeymoon , two games in 4 days .....I have to give credit to the players to keep going until the death and be happy with the point.
Yep Played Monday then Friday!. A lot of people seem to have forgotten that. People on here saying they wanted Smith instead of DM, sounded a right crybaby after the game.

Thought Gibbs should of been quicker out to
Elgazi for both goals ,for a player of his supposed quality
We should be seeing more from him he shouldn’t be given the runaround by any winger in this division
Would need to see the second again but the first he wasn't at fault. He had a man overlapping so any kind of closing down would have let him in with an easy pass. It should have been Hegazi closing down there as we had more than enough defenders spare. He was too slow to see that Gibbs was dealing with two players.

Wrong. The man outside was not the immediate threat, you protect the centre of the goal at all times. Gibbs should've been out to block the shot. If the ball goes wide so be it you deal with the cross if you have to.
-
Whoever made this flag is a bit daft IMO.
If he had done his research then Cyrille’s stint at Villa was no more than a footnote in his career.
Yet the flag had a massive Villa bias.
Is an Albion fan going to make a blue and white flag with Tony Morley’s picture on it at Villa Park, February? No I thought not.
-
I thought villa were comfortably the better side last night, we can get better with the right personnel in the middle of the park which now we've changed defensively seems to be our biggest issue. Crying out for some legs in there but I have my doubts it will be addressed in January and expect the starting XI will see the same names we see now shuffled around and the bench might see the likes of Mears and Hoolahan replaced with similar.
Villa have done well recently so the new manager bounce is having an effect unlike us last season when Pardew came in and nothing changed. The keeper is suspect and Hutton got schooled by a young kid, I was amazed he didn't bring Barnes down in the build up to Gayle's goal, defensively although they have kept a few clean sheets lately they are not all that. I don't see the hype about Grealish as i've never seen him do much other than whine to the ref and sit on the floor blabbing like a little babby as he did again last night. They can bang on about us having 2 loanees stealing the show but their own loan player Tammy missed two sitters last night which would have possibly sealed the game for them and his recent goals have had a major impact on their results so both in the same boat.
The handball was not deliberate as is obvious from the video of it, the ball hit Rodriguez not the other way round so despite their cheat claims they are wrong, yes it should have been disallowed but thats down to the officials not the player, comparisons with Henry and Maradona are not like most of the vile fan excuses laughable.

Actually, according to the laws of the game, it should not have been disallowed. The law clearly states that a handball has to be DELIBERATE in order for it to be an offence. So, basically, Villa can cry foul all they like, their problem, I suggest they read the rules of the game properly.

Yeah thats fair enough but 9 times out of 10 it would have been, luckily this was the 1 out of 10 it wasn't so stuff the villa :D
-
Wrong. The man outside was not the immediate threat, you protect the centre of the goal at all times. Gibbs should've been out to block the shot. If the ball goes wide so be it you deal with the cross if you have to.
It's not wrong, watch it again. The ball wouldn't have been wide it would have been played into our box for a pretty clear chance. This play wasn't far out wide at all. Hegazi should have been across not leaving Gibbs in a lose-lose position. The clue is that the shot went straight at Hegazi, he should have been closing down.
Hegazi wasn't there to close the shot down. He then literally heads the ball into his own net, and still Gibbs gets the blame.
-

I've watched it half a dozen times. The danger is the shot at goal, Gibbs has to show more desire to stop that shot. If I have a criticism of Hegazi, he should've moved his body to meet the ball rather than allowing the ball to hit him but it shouldn't have got this far. Gibbs has to read the danger and stop the shot.
-
Thought we were very lucky, they missed some glorious chances and smacked the woodwork. JRod is awful, we'd be woeful without Barnes, Gayle is not a winger and we missed Morrison terribly. Sadly, Brunt is finished IMO.
I hope the board are aware of our need to re-invest in the window because we can't continue to ride our luck like this. Great that it happened to the vile though!! ;D
-
Some incredible posts on here. While the scores were level we controlled the game. The only reasons the scores weren't level were a huge double deflection and a worldie from 25 yards. While we were chasing the game Villa were able to create a few chances but couldn't put us away and in the end we more than deserved the point.
I'd have loved us to go ahead at any stage last night because we'd have picked them off at will. That imo is why we were actually unlucky last night as the run of the ball didn't allow us to get ahead at any time.
-
Anyone see Chairman Peace's twitter?
"Big thanks to @JackGrealish1 whose general shithousery and crying on the floor gave us enough injury time to score a phenomenally well taken equaliser. #WBA lovely stuff"
Brought a smile to my face. What goes around comes around, eh!

Stewards are complete bells
Why wouldnt they let that in??
As a former Steward myself let me tell you they are not bells. They are told what they can let in the ground and what they can't all the decisions come down via radio from the control room.
-

Because there are rules and regulations to follow.

Looks totally respectful to me. Photo on the right is Cyrille in the Albion strip. He made over 50 appearances for the Villa and its clearly going to be in claret and blue as it is a villa fan who has done it.
Personally I dont see anything wrong with this. A none Albion fan paying his respects to the great man....

Gibbs has read the danger, if he steps up the ball is slipped in so he did what he could. The person who hasn't read the danger is Hegazi who is ball watching.
You're blaming Gibbs even though he was put in an impossible position to mark two players. Why didn't hegazi read the situation and step out to block the shot?
Put it this way, the shot wasn't closed down we can both agree on that. Two players could have closed it down, one of them was covering the run in behind, the other got hit directly with the ball. Its hegazis to close down every day.
-
Wonderfully put but that’s what a private education and a job in the city gets you, class.
-

Don't think the midfield covered themselves in glory either. Barry let greasy jack carry the ball too far. Then Livermore instead of holding ground and being ready to close the next manstormed in and just flattened grealish- if they didn't score I think the ref would have given a free kick. Although I have only seen it once but that's how it looked to me
-
We never really controlled the game, nor did Villa.
Both teams had spells of possession, the difference was with their spells they got at us and had a spell where they could of scored 2 or 3, first half Abraham was through when Tosin passed the ball straight to them, fortunately he passed it back to Johnstone, second half he had two headers, one he should of done better, the other was a good effort but went wide, he also had the ball at his feet on his own 6 yards out and again managed to mess it up.
Our chances, a Gayle header over in the start of the 2nd half? And Villas keeper is their weakest player yet we never looked like scoring.
When we had the ball, usually at the back, Hegazi to Dawson, look up, Dawson back to Hegazi, look up, Hegazi to Dawson, now and again they found Gibbs or Barnes with a crossfield pass. We were neat and tidy without ever looking like scoring, yes the first goal was a fluke and maybe had we got the first goal it would of changed the approach but we didnt and they looked a lot more comfortable and more threatening than us.
We badly missed HRK and Morrison, without them i am not sure we currently have the personnel to play 4-3-3 against the better side, against the weaker sides we should just over power them which we have done a few times this season regardless of the formation.
PS - i am delighted how we got the equaliser, they have had more than enough luck against us.
-
The 26,513 attendance, is that our biggest gate for years. Can’t remeber it being that full since the capacity was dropped down to 26,500
What is our capacity cause if the away fans were 120 down then, that means the capacity is higher then the 26,500
-
I don’t agree at all mate. Cyrillie at Villa Park was a pale imitation of the one at The Hawthorns. Anyhow Cryrille was damn good for Coventry and only slightly less effective.
There was a specific reason that Albion played Coventry in a pre-season friendly.
There is no basis for Villa fans to hero worship him. I personally found that particular flag an insult to not only WBA but Coventry City also.
-
don't see any harm in it myself.
-
Officially the capacity is 26,688.

Personally I thought it was a nice gesture- first time the clubs have played each other since he died, he's pictured in the Albion strip and he continued his links with both clubs after he finished playing through coaching and his agent work. Maybe the people who went to the trouble of designing and paying for it have personal links with him? Fair play to them.
-
Wasn't allowed in by the stewards apparently ?
If it wasn't allowed in, how come there's a photo of it?
-
pathetic if true it wasn't allowed in - I hate the Vile but have to admit that's a great gesture shown by them to one of our greats
-
If it wasn't allowed in, how come there's a photo of it?
Its on a washing line in someone's back garden, so I can only assume that it was done by the owner prior to going to the game, and has now released the picture as it was taken off him by the stewards and he has put the photo out to show how innoffensive it was..........
-

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that to bring a flag/banner into the ground it has to have a fire safety certificate with it.
Could that be where the problem arose?
-

I understand that but quite a few of the stewards are bells...personal experience and reports from other fans show that
The stewards in the back of the Smethwick caused a bit of a commotion previous home game and chucked someone out and took his season ticket/card off him too, all for standing on his seat. Not a sign of any of 'em on Friday night when the gangways were rammed with people who had moved there from their usual seats lower down and who were generally well tanked and getting leary when in sight of some real live seals
-
I understand that but quite a few of the stewards are bells...personal experience and reports from other fans show that
I should have explained better, I haven't been a steward now for 13 years. When I was doing It, it was mainly Albion stewards now it's outside contractors and to be honest they are rubbish. I was just backing imo the proper stewards who work for West Brom and are well trained. The one's who do it now are a cheap option.
-
Nothing wrong with it in principle but I still don't like it just my sheer intense dislike of anything vila.
-

It's not about hero worship, it's just a friendly sign of respect...
Some stewards clearly have ego problems.

No mate. The 2 faced Villa were chanting "F--k the Albion" all night then if interviewed later would state WBA are not their rival!!!
Cyrille was rightly revered by WBA and Coventry, other clubs should not be in the frame.
Villa have had some great forwards in latter years namely Withe, McInally, Yorke. They should save their appreciation for them.

To be fair we were not exactly singing songs of respect about them either.
I hate the vile as much as you but this was just a friendly well meaning gesture from a normal 'football' fan and it should be treated as such........

The picture of him in an Albion shirt should be the giveaway. For me this is a genuine gesture to honour a legend of Midlands football.

Wake up to the situation. The beef i have with Vila is they turn the tap on and off regarding WBA-Villa rivalry. You are talking about the oldest derby in world football.
I get that we'll never mean as much as Small Heath. However most Villans just completely contradict themselves. Its a derby we dont want flags like that when Cyrille in the main was an Albion man.

Should fans submit requests to you in writing next time when considering what figures in the game they wish to respect?
-
I'm with skyclad... I think it was a decent nod to a great player.
Quite a grown up thing to do in fact.
-

My god where have you popped up from we don't need vila supporters giving it large on here go back to where you've been hiding for two years.

I was just going to say the same. I've got a flag and every ground we take it before allowing it in the stewards want to know what's on it and for proof of the fire safety certificate.

Flags also banned at a big rugby game too on H&S grounds, this time 1500 of them

Fine but i will never change my own viewpoint.
We wil wait for February at Villa Park to see how partisan and hostile it is from about 38,000 Villa fans. Remember though it's not really a derby according to them
Your comment about Sheffield-Hallam is just to try and prove a point.

There will probably be about 29.000 villa fans and 3,000 of us like most other times they play us. They only get 38,000-40,000 Home fans when they play blues.
Some awful comments in this thread about what was a cracking banner and cracking idea from some villa fans

Some awful comments in this thread about what was a cracking banner and cracking idea from some villa fans
Wrong. What will happen is Villa will win the majority of their games and gates will soar to the 40,000+ mark regularly. I’d almost guarantee the crowd will be 42,000 for WBA. They are a big club no doubt.
Maybe the flag idea was to soften us up and potentially nullify a raucous home crowd, who knows? What I do know is that Villans aren’t consist with their opinions/actions therefore I wouldn’t trust one when you’re solely talking football.

A well intentioned gesture, to try to turn it into anything else is pretty pathetic in my opinion
