Albion Matchday Forum / Re: After Match Debate

BBC sport make me chuckle (not) apparently Robinson was gifted the 2nd goal by Silva, Robbo only had to run 20 yards and shoot from the edge of the box while under pressure from a defender and slot the ball in the far corner past a very well positioned goalkeeper. Absolute tap in.

Those Robinson finishes were both quality today and if Grant had scored them we’d be drooling.
Can we produce enough goals with what we’ve got? Probably not with the goalkeeper and defence. But will Grant make up for the disparity between for and against? I Think not.
Does Bilic need to think about spending any available funds on stopping goals against?

Good point gets us off the bottom.
3 second half goals conceded per game so far.
Should we consider spending all our available kitty on a decent goalkeeper instead?
He reminds me of Carson in that he doesn’t win us any points.

There are some strange slogans being plastered in the stadiums at the moment. At Villa Park it says "Part of the Pride"??  and at Goodison a couple of banners state "The People's Club"? What does that mean??  ::)
Everton have referred to themselves as ‘the peoples club’ for a while it’s not a new thing
Part of the pride is a reference to the lion on the badge I think

Has been a world class player for most of his career,.
If he’s half as good as he once was he’ll be our best (and busiest) player this season.

Is it only me, but I was led to believe owners couldn't just chuck me into a team. This FFP thing is quite confusing.
You're not alone, I've given up trying to fathom it all.

As it stands I'm expecting 20th.

This could be a very embarrassing season especially in the derbies.

One of our all time greats and a smashing bloke as well.
Wonder if a testimonial is still on the cards.

In terms of affinity with the club he’s in the same boat as Bomber and Superbob.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Bilic - back him or sack him?
« on: July 23, 2020, 02:19:24 PM »
I lurk on here from time to time but hardly ever post. Social media isn't for me but I just have to say that the reaction from some "fans" on here has been absolutely embarrassing out in the real world. I have no idea what sort of expectations people have from our club but anyone thinking that we have some sort of preordained right to get promotion, win games or play in the Premier league is supporting the wrong club.

I was watching us play back in the 90's when Gould was manager and we got relegated to the Third Division and ended up playing teams like Darlington. Since we started spending more time in the PL than the Championship we've gained an unnerving number of prawn sandwich fans who like the sound of their own voices a tad too much.

We're Albion, we've never done things the easy way, we're a small family club with family values. We don't have means to buy trophies or pay insane wage packets. Our strength is our tight knit nature and doing things "the Albion way". Crawling over the line yesterday was underwhelming but that's about the most Albion thing I can think of. We have a great group of players and an honest hardworking manager and backroom team, and you can see the relief was evident from their passion. Onward and upwards, boinging all the way. COYB.
Good post, you should do it more often.

I'm hoping we get an experienced first choice keeper next season, a decent keeper should be worth 10 points a season, not just someone to pick the ball out the back of the net.

« on: July 21, 2020, 03:15:37 PM »
From Stokes point of view we are their most played opponent and also their most defeated opponent, they really ought to lay a spread on every time we turn up.
Beating Brentford is the least they could do.
I know a few Stokies, some a very reasonable people and one or two are physcos but good value to be fair.

As much as I expect us to beat QPR, I can’t see their players taking it easy just because the club gets a little windfall from the Furlong transfer.
Need to grab the game by the scruff of the neck from the off and forget what the others are doing.

If it’s going to be Brentford who get 2nd I’d rather they win 3 or 4-1 rather draw this.

Goo on Stoke me ducks

The body language of the players after the first goal tells a story, they don’t even bother to query the gaff.
They don’t trust him, he needs a fresh start elsewhere.

I’ve got to say that given the choice between getting promoted this season or next I’d go for next. We ain’t ready as it stands, too many weak links.

I’d be happy for the top 6 to sod off to a European super league and leave the rest of us to it.

We hired a coach from the Five Ways in West Brom, met up at about 7am for breakfast and a pint.
I remember half the terrace along the side of the pitch being given to Albion fans as we took so many.

The fact that the senior management team are taking reductions is good....if we as a club furlough anybody...it’s the last time I go to the hawthorns.
It’s a commendable gesture to stop drawing a salary.
If they do furlough then the club make up the 20% shortfall for staff.

72
I'm not sure the Vile would agree with you there!
why not? Every club would get the chance to save their season rather than having it taken out of their hands.
There's no guarantee that next season will start on time anyway.

Dear all, again, many thanks for all your support, thoughts and good wishes that have meant so much to us.

After some anxious moments and physically and mentally draining days, particularly for my wife, I'm pleased to be able to say that my father-in-law is showing signs of improvement and is responding to treatment. It's still early days, but the doctor and staff at his care home are sounding more positive about him and he does look brighter in himself.

The care home suggested that we might want to scale back our visits for our own sake as much as the safety of their other residence, which we fully appreciate.

We are take nothing for granted, its just a day at a time.

I hope you, your families and friends are safe and well, we can ask for little more in these unprecedented times.
its good hear a bit of positive news, fingers crossed. All the best.

If the season is to be abandoned surely it is only right that teams go with what they have I.e no transfer window. Yes that may cause problems with loans , out of contracts etc but as so much of the season has been played surely it can't be right that teams have another chance to spend heavily ! Indeed why not finish this season by starting again in January 2021 should have the league s done by Mid March ,finish the fa cup and then still have plenty time to ready  international teams for Euros
Thats not a bad idea, postpone next season in effect by extending the existing one into late 2020 early 2021. I’d rather miss a season than waste one that’s 80% done.
