Franksy is a dingle fan never a bad word against them but loves running us down. And the callers I sometimes wonder what game they have watched or stream. Best part is Bomber doing out games.
he was a villa fan at school

And the saves against Forest (that kept us in the game) and Villa?

For shear intensity of emotions and what it meant for the club and re-building it has to be Swansea semi and Port Vale final. The Portsmouth win at Fratton Park to keep us up and the Great Escape. For the magic it has to be in the year we won the FA cup we beat United 6-3 in front of +40,000 at the Hawthorns.

Mears is the pick I don’t get. He adds nothing to the team and would appear totally out of his depth. Not sure why DM keeps picking him.

Sad to see Yacob go as you won't get a better defensive mid in the Championship, but hopefully we'll be moving forward with a younger team. Disappointed but not surprised that we've persisted with Morrison, expect him to be fully fit for this season or it's an awful decision keeping him on. Pleased we've made the right choice on Myhill and McAuley.

Just got to hope that Barry hasn't taken up his additional year and we're in a decent position to sort the squad age out.
I think Barry has taken up his option.

I hope he gets back to full fitness because I think he was a big miss last season.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Assistant Head Coach
« on: June 02, 2018, 09:28:42 PM »
I still can't get my head round trying to patch up a flawed appointment with an Assistant. Either we believe in Darren Moore's abilities or we don't. If his lack of experience is an issue putting a sufficiently experienced (e.g. Megson)  coach in as Assistant looks like we have just got the appointments the wrong way round.
isnt it’s DMs idea to have an assistant?

Well done Albion fkd it up again. Jenkins' comments worth absolutely zilch. Albion urine  me off everytime we have the chance to really progress we turn it down. However it's not Big Dave's fault and I will be behind him 100%.
We haven't kicked a ball in the new season yet. Big Dave did more than the dead beats that went before him. Needs to be given every chance and support. There are no guarantees in football. Just because he isn't the big name a lot of supporters maybe hoped for (and I dont get the Smith love in) he has the club at heart so I for one wish him all the best!

This will have been far from an easy decision from the board, they will be fully aware of the risks. I wouldn't imagine Darren got a text saying "Go on then you can have a go", there would have been lengthy discussions about budgets, structure, style of play, transfers etc. and he has obviously convinced them that he can tick all the boxes. Add to that, they know him extremely well, so he won't be able to blag them like a smooth talking outsider could (Pardew)

Dean Smith has an ok CV, but nothing spectacular, despite many more years "experience". Big Dave is an unknown quantity in terms of managing, so yes that's an undoubted risk, but his pedigree is there. More than anything though, for me, he has a genuine passion for our club, he's not in it for the money, or a stepping stone to greatness. His one focus will, absolutely, be to do what's best for WBA and that is priceless.

I have recruited many people over the years and I would always prefer to promote from within. Identifying someone with ambition and the skillset you need, coupled with an in depth knowledge of your business, it's processes and people, rather than someone with an inflated CV who can blag an interview, is a no-brainer for me.
It's very rare you get the chance to do this in football and I, for one, am glad we have grabbed it with both hands. It's been a long time since I have felt any real affinity to a player or manager of our club but, Big Dave feels like a kindred spirit, like we are in it for the same reason and I love him for that.
Great post on all the points you made. Never really got why people were getting so excited about Dean Smith. I hope Big Dave can carry it off. We  certainly need things in place sooner rather than later.

And we're handing our biggest rebuild in recent history to someone who's never managed a club before.
Presumably he wont be doing it on his own.

Speaking to a friend, apparently he does have his favorites in the dressing room. I guess most managers do.

I'm not asking for us to go down and recreate it , and I get not every club can be successful in that sense. However, what I would like to see, is us play out a full season. I'd like us to really challenge for a cup. I'd like us to push and push when we had a slim chance of europe.

Instead, for the second season running stopped playing with ten games to go.
I agree with what you say. I'm not sure they have stopped playing as such; I think our problem has been highlighted over the last 8 games.....top scorer is a defender remember and goals mainly from set pieces. No real creativity (or not much) without Phillips on the pitch.

We could have Messi and Pulis would make him defensive.
Nice one....

'Good times' to me are about success.  Promotion was a success, staying up against all odds was a success. Finishing mid-table, fans turning against each other, dwindling support etc is not a 'good time' to me.
I guess with your measurement of success unfortunately not every team can be successful. Not sure I would want to get relegated to be promoted or fight off relegation. I will agree the football isn't great at the moment; I think stability is probably the key word at the Albion at the moment; hopefully by staying put in the prem we'll eventually attract more decent players and hopefully that will deliver more entertaining football and maybe success (eg a cup)

Let him build what? He has one agenda and that's to make 40 points. He has very little interest in the cup either.

If he is still here in 4 years time for example, the crowds will be lower and the most we might have done is reached 50 points. These are not 'good times'
Name some good times in recent years to see what you are bench-marking against.....

Regarding his transfer,he doesn't seem very ambitious does he?
He lives in Cannock so he wouldn't have to move house as stoke is only half hour away, you would think that he would want a better standard than stoke or palace or is he actually a home boy who just wants the money.
Anyway get rid he has problems that are disruptive to our club, sign sakho sell saido.
Have you seen his house? Very nice!
