Is this the first time this season we have won back to back league games?

Nope, done so four times this season, most recently the two 1-0s against Norwich and Leeds at home between Christmas and New Year! Our best run this season was 3 wins in a row around the end of October.

With this win, we're now on our longest unbeaten run this season (6 games:  4W, 2D).

Must say, I couldn't get enough of Okay's goal. A true Alan Partridge special  :P ;D

Someone who's there to score the easy goals later in games? Keep doing just that and it's hugely valuable to us at this level.

Our best ever away victory against them !

Joint best ever win against them at all, which is interesting considering the sheer number of games we've had against them — since the very start well before any of us were ever around!

Very interesting to see how easily we win headers in the opposing penalty area, but pretty much nothing in our own  :-X ;D

First win of the season always tastes good though!  :D

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: From bottom to promotion
« on: November 12, 2022, 07:10:19 PM »
Has any team from rock bottom in this division and been promoted in the same season?

Yes!

Since 1990, I can find four that were bottom any time after the second game of the season and went on to get promoted:

2021/22 - Nottingham Forest - Bottom at gameweeks 4-8 - Finished 4th (Play-off winners)
2018/19 - Sheffield United - Bottom at gameweek 2 - Finished 2nd
2012/13 - Crystal Palace - Bottom at gameweeks 2-3 - Finished 5th (Play-off winners)
1998/99 - Bradford City - Bottom at gameweek 5 - Finished 2nd

And four more who were second bottom at any time after the third game of the season:

2011/12 - Reading - 23rd at gameweek 6 - Finished 1st
2008/09 - Burnley - 23rd at gameweek 4 - Finished 5th (Play-off winners)
2006/07 - Sunderland - 23rd at gameweek 5 - Finished 1st
1995/96 - Derby - 23rd at gameweek 4 - Finished 2nd

These teams, as far as I can see, also encompass all teams in the relegation zone the latest but being promoted in the same season.

We, on the other hand, have been bottom this season after gameweek 17, and in the relegation zone until gameweek 19!
If we were to (somehow) get promoted, it would very comfortably be the latest charge up the table for an awful long time.

This should also serve to highlight just how unfathomably unlikely this would be... ;D

It's a strange thing what three consecutive wins can do for your mentality...  :-X

Oh it's so nice to have the realisation that we're no longer inexplicable relegation candidates with this new management. ;)

It has to be said that own goal was a bit of a cracker too!

Really excellent own goal! Choas, wrong players in the wrong place, sliced clearance straight in - all the quality hallmarks of a true blue OG. Glad we're not scoring those this season yet  ;D

No he was third closest but Robinson was the 2nd closest person imo. I haven't seen a still by the way.

Really enjoy the emphasis on person ;D

There was certainly another defender just beside the goalkeeper who is likely what gave the AR confidence it was onside.

Unless there was a defender out of shot there was only one defender between Robinson and the goal. Not sure what Goodman has to do with my comment?

I'm afraid this isn't true ;D

The goalkeeper is clearly not the second closest Sheffield United player to the goal line, the angle I think Sky used has the culprit behind the goalkeeper.

4 nil but according to a few on here we ain't very good! Half our players am rubbish.

Just coping mechanisms for the inevitable 0-1 shut down at Peterborough or somewhere  ;D

https://www.wba.co.uk/news/reach-joins-fourth-summer-signing

Albion have today completed a fourth summer signing with winger Adam Reach arriving on a three-year deal.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract which will run until 2024 and joins fellow Valérien Ismaël signings Alex Mowatt, Quevin Castro and Matt Clarke at The Hawthorns.

Reach earned 231 first-team appearances in five years at Sheffield Wednesday, scoring 24 goals. He made 44 Sky Bet Championship appearances for the Owls last season, netting on five occasions.

"It’s clear that West Bromwich Albion is a very ambitious club," said the midfielder.

"I share those ambitions of wanting to play in the Premier League.

"It’s the most exciting challenge of my career and it’s certainly the biggest challenge of my career.

"I pride myself on making a lot of appearances for clubs. I want to make plenty of appearances here and have my best years here. I just's cant wait to get started."

It's always worth remembering you're only going to find yourself reading things online that are designed to rile you...

Views from outside, for example over here, are very positive and salivating at what people seem to think is the "right" final between good teams. ;)

I'm going to send you all on goalkeeping courses one day  :o ;D

Ooft, I so wish I was back in the country in time.
