Just for fun = Fastest Albion player ever
« on: May 31, 2015, 06:34:34 AM »
I do these just for fun's every now and then when I'm bored lol.

Ok guys - who is it?

I'm going for Kevin Bartlett - he was a rocket and finished second in some sprint challenge thing. I once saw him on the half way line, he kicked the ball forward and the defender couldn't even be arsed to chase him.

He gets my vote.

Honourable mentions for Peter Barnes ................. (as was always the case with Barnesey, when he felt like it), Laurie Cunningham, Willie Johnston and (a surprise to some I'm sure) Martin Albrechtsen who I remember Henry Camara (a flyer) giving up the chase against.

Over to you lot ............................

Peschisolido was pretty quick on his day. I remember going up to Bury away in the late 90's and he destroyed them and bagged a hat trick. Think he left not long after

Lloyd Dyer was super quick, though he could have done okay for us but was sold.

Dick Kryzywicki back in the 60's. He was like lightning, but useless at football! Used to run off the pitch before he realised he should have crossed the ball.
Hell of a name for Scrabble...if it was allowed!

The one I first thought of was Kryzywicki. My memory may be at fault but  I seem to think he was known at the time as Nicki not Dick.

No, definitely Dick. I don't remember him being that fast though. I'd have thought Clive Clark from the same era.

Yes he was definitely  Dick, pretty quick as I remember; there was a night match versus Coventry when he was way too quick for Jeff Blockley who chopped him down every time he got the ball, he'd have been sent off for the first foul these days but he wasn't even booked and then went on to score Coventry's winner late in the game; hated him with a passion from that day on.

In terms of acceleration over a short distance it has to be Laurie Cunningham for me, it was just amazing to watch him leave defenders in his wake from a standing start.

Didn't Kevin Bartlett do 100M in just over 10 seconds wearing normal trainers

Cyrille Regis was quick. Over 20 yards no-one could catch him.
Didn't he win the 100m on The Superstars show with a record time?

Anyway - A really exciting player to watch.

Martin Albrechsten was pretty quick, his one trick when playing RB was kick it past the opponent and hope he outpaced him to get to the ball (usually to put in an uninspiring cross)

De Freitas or Kevin Campbell has to be up there  :P

Lloyd dyer was probably the fastest I have seen, Kamara was pretty fast when he ran against the dingles from the half way line in the cup aswell

Krzywicki for me, he was very fast, he would have been dangerous if he had taken the ball with him.

A good old traditional Welsh name, Krzywicki.

I think what people should also take into account was the heaviness of the pitches back then, along with the ball, boots and shin pads.

Most of todays players are fast when the ball is played into space for them to run onto. Both Johnston and Clark had terrific acceleration from a standing start with the ball at their feet.

Bartlett for me.
Remember a game back in 1990 against Wilko's Leeds at Elland Rd we were 2-0 down with about 25 mins left then Goodman latched on to a through ball and scored and with 10 mins left Bartlett did the same.
Come to think of it Bartlett/Goodman must be the quickest pairing of strikers in Albion history.

dont ask me to choose luv

Wasn't David Speedie a bit rapid? could put him in the obscure thread as well.
