Lots of gloating tonight about being pride of the midlands. Oh well, shame we didnt take that chance. Seems like whatever we do we will never wrestle that from them.

Still, above Blues, Wolves, Stoke, Notts Forest etc. Very good year.

Got to say I would have had nailed on top Mildand team with 4 points out of the last 2 games but theyve beaten Arsenal and Liverpool to claim it.

We must remember how far we've come after we've had our best season in 30 years and they've had one of there worst yet still finished above us.

The fact remains they are a massive club compared to us and to finish so close is a massive achievement.

I think they need to spend some money, in the pre season, they could do with another striker and keeper.

They still have a great squad, as much as it pains me to admit. Sure, Reo Coker is a loss - but Carew and Pires aren't really. If they can get a few good signings they'll be in for a top 7 finish.

the spirit wasn't good last season, and they will lose both Young and Downing this summer. I dont see great leadership by Houllier. They will be in transition/turmoil a while longer, maybe a good while longer...

Birmingham Mail reporting that Gerard Houllier is set to leave the club by mutual consent due to health reasons which would be unsurprising but Villa seem to be saying no decision has been made yet.

I heard a few months back that Moyes from Everton was lined up and Houllier was due to go the day he had his problems. Wether the news had an effect who knows.

They wanted Mark Hughes before Houllier but he had only just joined Fulham but I believe he only signed a two year deal so compensation would probably be less than Moyes who has a couple of years left to run on his.

Hughes, Rafa Benitez, and Moyes are the early betting favourites.

I heard an interview with Benitez a month or so ago and he's definitely looking for work with a club over here, he lives here with is family, his wife insists they stop here.#

For some reason I can see McClaren going there.

Looking at the poll on the Birmingham Mail site the fans want Ancelotti(highly unlikely) or Moyes.

Regarding Benitez,I forgot to share this from about a month ago that I saw on Guillem Balague's(sp) Twitter:

"Rafa Benítez had been offered West Brom, two national sides and a Italian club"

I saw that tweet at the time and just laughed to myself to be honest.

Its a tough one for Villa, if I were them I would do all I could to get David Moyes.

Something I hadn't considered until CL mentioned it on his web chat earlier. One thing I would say is that I do think he would want to try and do well here again next season to continue re-building his reputation after the Liverpool job and then see what is available after that such as the England job or a bigger club in the Premier League.

Could Villa look at the job Hodgson has done with us and want him?

I'd say so yes, it was only last season he was the Manager of the Year and despite the issues at Liverpool he's clearly done great with us.

Some folk say Roy isn't interested in a long term contract at his age, but personally I think any manager would prefer a 3 or 4 year deal over a rolling one year deal (which I think he has with us).

However, Roy is good friends with Houllier I think, so I'm not quite sure he'd jump straight into his old job if Gerard did get the push.

Houllier gone apparently. Just waiting for Villa to announce it.

Hughes bookies favourite.

Leaves the door open for Roy to return to the cottage.

Houllier has officially gone now, I would like to take the time to thank Gerard for the job he did while his health allowed it at Villa Park. If only his health hadn't deteriorated he could have finished the job by taking the ******* down.

Now the campaign begins, Avram for Villa!!!!!  ;D

Roy felt like he had achieved all he could at Fulham thats why he left.

Lee Clark could go there if Hughes leaves for Villa
