WM Football Phone In.
« on: March 18, 2019, 11:17:07 PM »
So I've been listening to this online while I've been off work last week, we come off terribly on it compared to fans of the other W. Mids clubs? Who on earth is phoning in?

Thought this could become a regular thread to discuss the Albion related calls on there. I've barely agreed with one call this past week, from numerous people calling for Shan to remain in situ, to someone saying Moyes and Puel the only obvious choices. The mind boggles.

People clammered for Moore to be appointed so go figure. Sadly it’s those who hold such opinions that seem to shout loudest and have lives dull enough to spend it calling in to these things, the only hope is that the board learn from their recent mistake and avoid going down that route.

It's not a discussion programme, it's designed to be controversial. Not worth listening to IMO.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Albion

On the contrary, they give the fan the opportunity to make themselves look stupid before the smug presenters confirm it. Unlike TalkSport this is entirely down to the caller rather than the presenter.

Every platform for people to speak their mind will always involve opinions you disagree with. Saying they make themselves look stupid because they have a different opinion is a bit much. And if you dislike the programme so much I'm not sure why you listen. I turn callers down who spout rubbish but I'm not bothered if their opinion reflects badly on me as an Albion fan. They're the ones that sound daft. Ultimately what's said, be it utterly ridiculous or simply breathtaking, it won't make an ounce of difference to the team's performance.

There are deluded people in every avenue of life. I'd much rather listen to the radio where i can turn it down than hear some of the nonsense i hear at matches around me.

Can tell you are 'not from round here' or a long time listener to WM Jacko, the main presenter, Franksie, is thought (known?) to be a died in the wool doghead and callers are generally regulars and their views well known to the producers/presenters and held in a queue and they are very selective about who gets to actually speak on air. They try to be a poor mans talkshite and steer conversations accordingly
There is a very sensible Baggie called Van who talks well but I suspect typically only in the post match sections and a very strange guy called Eddie who generally talks bo**ocks. Enjoy your listening

I used to like Rossie too.
I listen to WM, usually on the way home in the car.
Got to say I do like listening to the various views, I've been listening to it for some time now so I like to think that I can pull the wheat from the chaff.
As someone said they are very selective on the ones they let on air.
It's a mixture of balanced and extreme views, but hey it's entertainment.
Same as this board really if everybody agreed all the time there would be no point in it's existence.

I haven’t really listened to local radio for years, since the days of Tony Butler and his prayer mat and Tom Ross.

It was entertaining and funny, but then you got the same old voices trotting out the same old nonsense and it became boring and annoying. Thank goodness for the off switch or volume control.

Now, listening, would be a waste of battery life and electricity as it is no longer entertaining or funny any more imo.

WM seems to have the same people calling on the odd occasion I've listened (when I lived abroad mainly just to hear the accent when I was missing home!).

As for content, it's pretty dire really but I suppose they get enough listeners to continue doing the same.  George Gavin did something for a while in the 90s , which was mainly a time for us to bash the club so that worked.

Maybe the club are scared stiff (rightfully probably) but it would be good to have engaging debate with club people and fans involved on air. That would be worth a listen from time to time! There used to be fans forums aired and they provided insight into coaches and the club's thinking.

The problem is that I think the producers realise that these people are nuts but listeners like to hear them make prats of themselves. Bit like X Factor.

Yes, Alan is still around.
Never forget the time the vile drew Bradford in the semi final of the League Cup and that to$$er was that cock sure of the mighty vile winning he booked (and paid for his hotel) for the final.

Car crash radio, or at least it was when I used to listen in. Something which I haven't done for years now. They did a live to air post match show years ago. It was probably around the time we caught the Dings in that season. Anyway, a pal of mine rang up for a laugh and managed to get on air. He was presenting a well reasoned and balanced view point about something or other and Franksie was doing his best to trip him and lead him up the garden path but was failing dismally. My pal rounded off by telling him nobody wanted to hear his views (Franksie's) as the listeners were the real stars of the show and 'you're a w@nker anyway Franksie'  :P - it went out live on air before they switched straight to another caller  ;D .

Love WM.  Always listen to it on my way home from work.  There are some nutters on it though.

Tom Ross' fan running order was Blues, Villa, Blues, Albion, Blues, Villa, Blues, Albion Blues.  Best thing was he had Bomber co-commentating on match days but WM have got him now.

Eddie is a smashing chap , one of life’s characters in a bizarre twist of fate I was sat next to him against Crystal Palace when we got promoted and then at Wembley for the Cup Semi final against Pompey .

He used to watch Oldbury United and I will never forget one night when it was about 0 degrees and I swear he had slip on shoes with no socks on his feet .

Yes affectionaly known at Oldbury Utd by the players as Worzel.
My old man was the manager of Oldbury  mid 80s and Eddie was involved - villa fans used to wind him up really bad - so passionate about the Albion - used to take me up to watch - always manages to blag tickets off Tony Morley and George Riley!
Too man is Eddie

I remember when we accused him of tipping off Bruce to sign Rowan Vine for Blues, and said that Bomber should stop co commentating with him.
Ruffled Tom's feathers that did.
Agree though, his phone in was one of the better one's.

Not just in football Fritzii.  Politics in general, especially Brexit. Noisy, usually dim or ill informed minorities being run by vested interests getting a far larger share of publicity and their own way over a majority of people with a wider range of understanding or interests. Another poor night for us, all 3 callers suggested Shan stay on, one wanted a Pearson/Shakespeare double act... Awful... When Wolves change manager do their fans clamour for a Steve Bull/John de Wolf double act, do Leicester fans wonder what Big Steve Walsh and Julian Joachim are upto? At Blues are the fans clamouring for Steve Claridge and Ricky Otto? I CANNOT UNDERSTAND this obsession with former Albion players. It's unique to the game (since Liverpools bootroom came to an end in the late 80's) and totally unnecessary and certainly unwanted. I might have to ring in myself, if I ever get home from work on time.

No real surprise to be fair as from memory most shows seemed to follow a fairly pre determined pattern. Blues and Dogheads did indeed used to clamour for former players to be involved but again I am talking some while back now. Rather than ringing in I can heartily recommend that you tune out because those of us who would appreciate your input probably won't be the ones listening to what you've got to say.

I for one certainly don't rate this pile of cr@p programme which is dressed up as the soundboard of the people. It isn't, it's an echo chamber of comfort based, repetitive white noise designed to pass the time before we all meet our ends. An aural football forum of stagnant thought and repetitive cliche.

We all only have one life and spending time sat in a call queue seems even more of waste to me than the time it's taken me to type this load of rubbish. Exercise, sh@g your Mrs or do whatever floats your boat. But I cannot recommend highly enough that you drop this new found obsession of yours with Franksy on WM, he really isn't worthy of your valuable time. On a similar theme I intend to spend a lot less time on here.

Say hello to your arl' fella from me please and enjoy the rest of your day chap, COYB  8) .

That's me being referred to.  8) ;D

Jacko if you ever plan on phoning up please let me know when, I'm not missing that for the world.

I listen to WM when we're away and I want commentary or when I'm on my way too or from home matches because it kills the time on the train and queuing for said train.

We seem to get less callers than Villa, Blues and Wolves and ninety percent of the callers say nothing at all worth listening to.

As for Franksie, he is absolutely clueless. He stated before the Derby game earlier in the season that it was no bad thing Hegazi being out injured. We then went on to concede four goals at home. That is just typical of Mr Franks.

I don't know why people get so wound up about the football phone-in. The only ones they let on the air are going to be the ignorant or contentious - the ones that will shoot their mouths off, enraging other listeners and generating traffic. That's why Franks often seems to take contradictory positions from week to week - because it's not about being right, it's about generating phone traffic.

Franksie is a villa fan, but Regan is Albion.

Franksie's voice is different when villa win. It's provocation media at its worst.

Years ago, they wouldn't let you comment on any other club other than your own. Now they can't wait, in order to provoke a response. Really gone off the show recently.

Van and Ben are good reasoned callers. There's another couple of good Albion callers but must be honest I listen a lot less now.

You obviously don't listen enough.
Regan is the vile fan. Franksie? I'm not sure he knows what he is.

I know exactly what he is...... a thumb, a forefinger and rapid movement of the wrist and arm spring to mind  :-X .
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.
Oh, and always remember to defecate on those Vile chaps in claret and spew.

That's what they pretend.

If you heard Regan coverage of the great escape you would know otherwise.

The best Albion caller into WM is a lady called Laura.  Many of the callers are just pointless their thoughts are totally predictable.

All the presenters are doing their best to be shock jocks.  Vile had so many must win games... and now, unfortunately, they have gone on a run... and don't we know it.

Some Villa clown phoned in tonight suggesting Grealish is good enough to get in the Barcelona team and that Villa will be challenging for Europe next season.

He also went on to say jack sqeamish was good enough to play for Barcelona and could cover for Messi  :D
I do hope they come a cropper

He was a right tit.

Funny though. It's hard to believe there are people in the world that reach that level of stupid.

I heard the Messi comment and when he threw in mention of 82 I assumed it was a Bluenose on the windup. That lad couldn’t have been a real Villa fan surely?

Would they sell him?
If they did (££££) what would become of their great dream and team?

If Villa go up, I can see Dean Smith being sacked by Christmas. Expectation will rise, they'll struggle and he'll be the one to pay the price.

Genuinely surprised people listen to WM but anybody who would phone up a radio show are obviously a bit simple whoever they support.

Most people listen to WM because it concentrates on the local clubs. If you listen to Radio 5 Live or Talksport then most coverage will be on Man U, Liverpool and clubs from up and down the country. I don't know of any other West Midlands radio stations covering football in any depth.

I listen to it in the car on the way to and from home games but thats it, not sure who Van is the Albion fan but he seems sensible enough and is always pretty accurate with his comments.

The villa fan today was an absolute clown, typical arrogant git with his head already in the Prem and saying they will be aiming for a European place with the dingles next season and then having a tossfest over Grealish.

Anyone still doubting Regans allegiance should have listened yesterday. He said and I quote..’have my fingers crossed that we will be walking down Wembley way with John McGinn’...
