Criminal to lose that.

Good minutes for Ivanovic and Gallagher,  the rest were pony.

What an awful start to the season. Sounds very dramatic but a cup run could of done us some good but no instead out in the early stages. Can see this being a truly woeful season
Ohhhhh Albion we love you!

Knocked out by Brentford’s reserves. Not much more to add.

Farce of a penalty against Kipre , chucked that away.
Don't fancy Button much on that showing , big and slow.

There must be a reason why he was 3rd choice at Brighton.

Brentford knocked Saints out last round and were probably the best team at the end of last season in the Championship so not that big a shock.

Weird game that.  Nothing seemed fluid from us, you can tell it was a team that haven't played together that often.

Everyone was just "meh".  Despite scoring two, I just don't see what HRK offers.  He doesn't hold the ball up, he doesn't make runs, doesn't chase the ball down.  His first touch is so bad his second is a tackle, and then when dispossessed goes to ground waving his arms hoping for a free kick.  Harper\Edwards didn't really do much wrong, or much right.  Townsend was his slightly below average self.  Kipre seemed to be ok, won some headers back there.
Ivanovic looks a bit slow and rusty but his positional play was great.
Gallagher looks very good, got around the pitch a lot, should have scored at least 1 during normal play.

I thought at 2-2 we should have stuck Periera one and go for the winner.

Knew the keeper was going to dive that way for the pen - he stood to one side to make it look like to his right was wide open.  Then Grady being so left footed didn't give himself any angle, would have been fine if he'd put it into the side netting but it was an easy save.

We had that in our grasp and then ref gave them a shocking pen to get back in it. Penalties always a lottery, theirs were all very good. So we’re ours save for Diangana who didn’t look confident.

That was a second string Brentford side.

What's the point? Can't compete in Premier League and can't be bothered to compete in cups. This season is just going to be awful.

Oh well. Decent 2nd half, never a penalty for them, ref was cack, as usual.
Good lens apart from Diangana.
Positives
Ivanovic
Gallagher
Townsend
Kipre
Field
Negatives
Kanu
Phillips
Austin
Peltier
OShea
Harper

Rest ok.

Could have written that story weeks ago, including who would miss the crucial penalty, and the ref's inability to tell a fair challenge fro a blatant dive. Oh well on to the next one

Our defence is probably good enough for League One, a struggle in the Championship, no chance in the Premier League. At least I don’t have a long drive home seething!

Fairly evident of tonight’s starting eleven there is only two players who can challenge for a first team start.
It is not the taking part, but the winning that counts.
