So who will go down?
« on: February 21, 2011, 02:53:45 AM »
Who do you predict will be heading for the Championship come May?

I think Wigan, West Ham & Blackpool personally.

I have a feeling Wolves will get out of it unfortunately, they have nice fixtures from now until the end of the season, especially at home so I think they will get some wins. Blackpool are in freefall, Wigan are just generally poor and fixtures are bad and West Ham pretty much the same.

Hoping we'll scrape it although I feel it will be a mix up between us and West Ham ultimately.

I think Blackpool are going down. the other 2 spots are between 4 teams - albion, hammers, Wolves, wigan.  I think it all goes down to the last weekend, us and Wigan go down, with the final standings being the first time all year that we have been in the bottom 3.

This means we also lose distinction of being only Great Escaper.

BLACKPOOL
WOLVES

WEST HAM (papers say upson is out for the season, so that makes their defence even worst) .. I hope parker gets injured for the season now

Wolves, West Ham, West Brom

I'm sure all of us will feel that we needed to get more than 3 points from the home games against Wigan, West Ham and Wolves, so we'll now need to get some wins in games where we don't expect to.

However, apart from the obvious, it's good that we didn't lose yesterday, as I'm sure some would have unfairly sought to tarnish Hodgson with such a loss in his first game. Let's hope he can somehow weave some magic in the remaining games because, as the league table and our run-in stands, I fear that we'll be going down again.

Wolves, West Ham, West Brom

sadly.....I have to agree...

in terms of points won, our form is dreadful....

only three points from our last three home and away games combined...

using the same criteria....wolves have gained 7 points, west ham 8 and wigan 6

hope Im wrong, but......

No point in giving up yet. We do play much better against the better teams and we do have players that can hurt anyone. Other teams are in as much trouble as we are, Blackpool for example are starting to run out of steam, Wolves really are in trouble now and Wigan isn't great really. Birmingham may well be distracted by their cup runs and run into more trouble in the league... West Ham may or may not get their act together.

It is all still in our own hands, results against clubs like Birmingham and Stoke and wins against Wolves in the return and Newcastle/Everton + one or two surprise results (which we have done already this season) and we should just about scrape through. We have had our bad run for the season and are due an upturn in form.

The main thing for me now is that we continue to solidify our defense and get our top players performing in positions where they can hurt our opponents. Brunt eg has suffered from being played all over, he needs to be in the box/getting crosses in much more, Vela and Odemwingie can score against any team. Olsson is getting back into form  and if Tamas can get his act together (or be replaced with Ibanez) our defense will look much improved. We may have to do something with Jara as well, teams have started to target our defensive right knowing that Jara and Tamas aren't the most solid defenders ever. We may have our frailties but overall we are in better shape than ever.

Basically, if this team comes together we will stay up. It is all up to us from here on in. We were raw against Wolves but from now on we have nothing to lose, let's just go out and enjoy ourselves and give them hell.

Myhill didn't have a save to make bar O'haras remarkable shot. We had 12 corners to their 1.  I think Reid should play at right back, if he stays fit.  Jara can play midfield if necessary.  We will stay up, and finish 6 points+ clear of the dingles.   Blackpool, Wigan & Wolves for the drop with West Ham below us.

West ham definately will.

If Wigan & Wolves can get some wins then Blackpool & Baggies will be in trouble.

Personally I think we've had our chances over the last few weeks and failed to take them.

I can see it going right to the last game or two of the season, with it maybe even being similar to the Great Escape season when any three of four sides could go down on the last day of the season.

Thinking with my head, I believe we have had some opportunities against the likes of Wigan Athletic, West Ham United and Wolves over the last few weeks and are really going to struggle to get enough points on the board before the end of the season.

However, thinking with my heart, I believe we will beat the teams who we should be looking to beat during the run-in and may even spring a surprise against the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool.

At this moment in time, I would say it is between us, Blackpool, West Ham United, Wigan Athletic and Wolves, with three of these five teams going down.

There is actually not a single fixture yet where we will go into the games as favourites.

I'm thinking we'll need 3 wins and 1 or 2 draws to stay up.

Wins against Everton, Newcastle & Wolves and draws against Blues & Spurs maybe?

Just done the predictor on BBC and I have us finishing 16th on 39 points, the 3 W's down and Blackpool staying up on GD! I tried to be realistic (hopeful) I got us to beat Villa and Everton at home, Sunderland away and draw with Wolves & Newcastle

I've just done the predictor without updating it until the end, being pretty harsh on us on the whole (bar a 3-1 win at the dingles  ;D) and it came out as:

17th - West Brom
18th - Dingles
19th - West Ham
20th - Wigan

With us staying up by 1 goal difference over the dingles  :-X

Think this will go down to the wire..
Whoever comes out on top in the local derby stakes will have a headstart on the rest...
I still think we have enough in the locker to get out of it....
I wasnt impressed at all with the Dingles so as much as they say their run in is easier they generally struggle against lower sides..
Still think West Ham are for the drop along with the Dings ...
Id have a punt for either Wigan or Blackpool..
Got a feeling we'll scrape it last match at Newcastle...

The top bookmakers are betting on the relegation from the premier, and these are the top prices:-
Wigan 8/13
West Ham 4/7
Wolves 5/6
Blackpool 11/8
West Brom 6/4
Birmingham 5/1
Fulham 12/1
Blackburn 12/1
Those are the best prices with Ladbrokes, Coral & Hills.

I think it's hard to say, if you look at our fixture list and some of our performances of late we'll be favourites with some fans of other clubs. Hopefully we raise our tempo for when the bigger teams face us.

Wigan are a decent footballing team but in my opinion are a rather unpredictable side who much like ourselves find it hard to withstand pressure and cope with the physical side of the game.

West Ham are an average side with the exception of one or two players. Scott Parker remains vital to them, if they're to lose him through injury they could be in for a struggle.

Wolves and Blackpool I reckon will be down there, Blackpool have hit a freefall lately, much like ourselves. Wolves from what I saw yesterday aren't the greatest side in this division..

I think it'll be

Wigan
West Ham or Blackpool
and one of either us or Wolves - The game at the Molineux being pivotal

The Premier League/FA/Olympic committee will keep up the world cup winners (could they justify a Championship side getting the new Olympic stadium).

Roy will recognise that when we play our players in their correct positions we are not actually a bad team and confidence will go up (and the "rub of the green" will return).

Blackpool I think are in free-fall and will end up in bottom three. Wolves and Wigan are poor and will make up the other two places.

Looking very likely that Blackpool are going to stay up then, they only really need 2 wins and they'll get them quite easily imo. Can't really see anyone else getting dragged into it so I think it will only be one of us, Wolves, Wigan & West Ham staying up, anxious times ahead.

Plus, when was the last time all 3 promoted sides stayed up?!

It seems to be getting tighter and tighter.Villa and Everton are far from safe.
This weekend fixtures will be see one or two pull away or sink further.
Still think Wigan,West Ham and Wolves are favourites

Can't see West Ham going at all. They have a decent run in fixture wise with a few very winnable home games. I would have included Blackpool but can't see that happening after last nights win. Villa and Everton have enough quality to get out IMO. Wolves, us and Wigan will go I think.
