The second round draw for the Carabao Cup will be made after the completion of tonight’s first round matches.

They've split the West Midlands clubs. Us and Blues South, Villa and Wolves North. May have been some police input. Not sure they're keen on an evening derby with fans newly returned to the ground.

Not that many years ago, the early league cup rounds would produce lots of low key upsets.

This year, Villa reserves have won 6-0, Wolves reserves won 4-0, Norwich reserves won 6-0, while Leeds and Brentford scored 3 each.

It feels like the gap has widened. Either that or nobody takes the league cup seriously anymore.

I suspect it's also because the lower league teams are increasingly inclined to play their Reserves too! They might as well rename it to the "Carabao Underbelly Cup"!

Yep, it’s become a really boring competition now.  Certainly a case of the gap widening.

Those Bradford, Grimsby,  Yeovil and Doncaster cup runs of yesteryear seen an awfully long time ago.

Really looking forward to all the posts about how we let our young ones go, should have held onto the older ones and those lamenting the loss of Rodriguez. A while ago.

Lots of positives from an England perspective from the Man City league cup win.

Having watched the highlights, City's defence was entirely made up of English qualified defenders from their youth academy, which considering Taylor-Bellis is out on loan in Belgium is impressive and encouraging.

Phil Foden scored 1 and set up 2, seemingly being deployed in a deeper, more creative role than usual.

It was all topped off by teenager Cole Palmer scoring a great first goal for the club, running from the half way line unopposed and sweeping it into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Thanks Smeth. Forms will always be a strange one. Was third or fourth in the pecking order when he left. Shows how hard it is to work out who will develop.

Hilarious. They replace Mendy with Kepa because he is a shootout specialist. He fails to save all 11 penalties and then misses the decisive one. Ouch.

Was an enjoyable game for a 0-0 in all fairness. Not a classic by any stretch but never bored me.

I'd never seen so many disallowed goals in a game - four if I remember correctly.

shame there had to be a winner between either of those clubs to be honest.

Thought Keita should have got a red when he went in against Chaloba. Based on what I've seen from Championship referees this season I'm supremely confident he'd have walked had he been an Albion player.
