General Football & Sports / Re: Tony Pulis
« on: September 02, 2016, 12:58:19 PM »
You have to think he'll be gone soon going by the statement from Williams and this response that seems to have leaked. He's not going to resign, so it's time to see what the new owners and Williams are made of in terms of decision making.

We've already been pretty suicidal in neither backing or sacking him in the transfer window, there now needs to be a definitive decision made, and quickly.

Pulis just wants everyone back in the box.
It happened.
The box was overcrowded.
None of our players could get a clear sight of the ball, and we got the just desserts.
Thank you Mr Pulis for your ideas.

Not a huge fan of Pulis but I'd be hard pressed to blame him for Yacob's inability to clear when given  a free header.

The only worry with this is, we've not done a great job in getting the right people for this role since Ashworth left. Garlick was clearly totally unsuited to the role, while Burton and Day didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either. If we get this wrong, it's yet another bit of upheaval required.

Got to say, it's sad to see Lambert like this. Worked his way up from the bottom, had a decent career in the Premier League, played for and scored for his country. I hate the phrase but it's a great story. His dream move is arguably what's ended his career in the top flight, because the lack of football has seen his legs go.

Fully aware he's been poor for us, just a shame to see his career fade away and he knows it too. Saturday felt very much like Gary Neville's game against us with the foul on Dorrans/being torn apart by Thomas, seemed very despondent when he came off. Wouldn't be surprised to see him hang his boots up in the summer.

Thanks. Gray should be near the top of our list but I doubt Burnley would sell from their current position

Fairly sure I read he can't move again this season as he played for Brentford and then Burnley, and you can only play for two teams in one season. Would definitely look at him in the summer, if Burnley don't come up obviously.

Back to Pritchard, think this is a potentially excellent signing. Creative and also decent from set plays.

Well, that was surprising. Brilliant performance, Fletcher was absolutely outstanding from the off. Pulis did very well with the subs too, all had an impact on the game.

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Disallowed goal. Should we make a fuss?

The Premier League need to address this above all else coming out of this match. For me unofficial TV replays have been used against us in the last 2 matches.

100% agree with this. Seems to me like the word came from the fourth official, much like McClean's tackle last week, when the ref was going to let play continue.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: George Thorne joins Derby County
« on: November 24, 2015, 11:54:19 AM »
My issue with Thorne is that he got a bad injury here and was out for 8 months, we got him back to full fitness, gave him a new deal and then loaned him out to Derby. He did very well there, and suddenly came back demanding first-team football or a move on the back of 3/4 good months in the Championship.

And then, it's not like he gave the club or Irvine any opportunity to turn his mind or even give him first-team football before handing in (several) transfer requests. If you remember, Dawson also handed in a transfer request at the time following his loan with Bolton, club rejected it and he knuckled down, has been a first team regular at either Centre back or Right back ever since. I don't think Thorne even played in pre-season because he was too busy trying to force a move. Maybe if he'd done the same as Dawson he'd still be here? I wasn't a huge fan of Irvine by any stretch, but he did give young players an opportunity.

Didn't Dawson have a decent record for England Under 21's from the spot? He was the first choice taker wasn't he?

Bill Howell mentioned Downing in the story about moving onto other targets, I think he'd be a good signing. But apparently wants to move back up north so probably a no-go for us.

In the end, I think this transfer will happen, like people have said it will be a compromise on the fee, somewhere around 7-8 million.

Striker. Seen him in the victory shield for Wales, looks a tidy player. And unsurprisingly, already linked with a move away: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-chase-teen-starlets-anfield-3446550

I guess another way of putting it is that he raises his game when it matters most. Obviously would be better if he performed this way the whole season, but if there's a time to really step up, it's definitely the last 10 games.

I quite like Brunt at left back, at this stage I think he's better suited there than the left wing. Doesn't have the pace to get past a full back as a winger, but he doesn't need to do that when over-lapping and put in a couple of dangerous crosses on Saturday as a result of that, particularly the one that resulted in Gardner's goal.

I'm a huge fan of Sessegnon and would like to keep him, but he just doesn't strike me as being Pulis' type of player, particularly out wide.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: who should go?

I think that it's a near certainty the following will leave:

Gamboa
Wisdom
Olsson
Pocognoli
Davidson
Anichebe
Sessegnon
Mulumbu

Possible departures are Baird, Ideye, Yacob and maybe Brunt, but I think he's the most likely to stay, and as a fan of his I hope so. The ones I'd definitely keep are both of the goalies, Lescott, Dawson, McAuley, Fletcher, McManaman, Morrison and Berahino. The only issue is whether we'll be able to hold onto Berahino. Gardner will stay as well I'd have thought.

That leaves us looking for two right backs, one centre back, one/two left backs depending on where Pulis sees Brunt's long-term future, one/two wingers, maybe a central midfielder and two/three strikers depending on  Berahino/Ideye staying and how highly someone like Nabi is rated as a potential fourth striker.

What a joke.

Fairly sure you're supposed to get a booking(at least) for foul and abusive language or whatever it's called these days, Taylor clearly heard whatever it was to put into his report yet didn't book Brunt in the game. Unless it happened after obviously, but not sure how that would be the case as Taylor was pretty much sprinting off as he blew for full time.

Quietly fancy us in this one. A week to get Brown and Berahino back to somewhere near full fitness, McManaman should be fit, Fletcher back in the middle and I almost feel as if Pulis will be more amped up for this(personally) than the Villa games.

And it would just be really great to beat them with Pulis as our head coach after all the defeats he dished out to us over the years

Gone for Odemwingie on this one as Lukaku will get my vote for the striker role.

I've been speaking to the ticket office today and it appears they've had a few issues with games not being allocated to the correct accounts etc.

It seems that in the past staff have been lazy and have allocated tickets to one account and maybe not a friend or family that went with you for example.

Hopefully it should all be much better next season.

Yeah that's what happened with my Dad's. Just e-mailed them and they had it sorted within half an hour. Imagine I'll have to do the same tomorrow trying to get mine.

Is there a way of checking your ticket history or just a case of seeing what happens on the day? My dad's friend who we go with has done five away games, I've done three so trying to find out whose account we got the tickets on/whether we allocated them properly. All it shows in ticket history is the upcoming home games, because we've got season tickets, rather than previous purchases.
