Seen a few in the ore match thread for Reading auggest we make wholesale changes for this one, I certainly wouldn't. I'd use it to get Ajayi some minutes, maybe look to give Dike somewhere near 75mins which will be an important barrier to break in his recovery and maybe rest where possible, for example Phillips and Diangana can play wide with Wallace given a breather.

Other than that, I'd play pretty much our first team and look to make changes from the bench to rest players if the game allows. I see Yokuslu too important to rest from the start and would certainly not be changing keepers!

Yes, the best team, They wont get too stretched, and it will treat the non-league locals to a display of honour, for them.

Given the criticism of Townsend, isn't it worth looking at Ashworth?
Congested fixtures so:-

                Palmer
Kelly    Semi     Pieters   Ashworth
            Livermore THG
 Reach        Swift/Rogic         Grant
                 Dike

At Sheffield Wednesday, Reach scored his best goals coming in from the right.
 Should be enough for Chesterfield?

Phillips Livermore TGH Grady
             Cleary Dike

Old school 442. Dike needs 90 mins at some point.

This is fairly close to what I would go for. I think we might see Reach start either at left back or left wing, but it makes sense to give those who didn't start today a proper run out.

We have a full week to recover so don't need to protect players too much.

I'd limit any changes to the squad of players that Corberan is actually using:

Palmer

Furlong
O'Shea
Ajayi
Reach

Yokulsu
Gardner-Hickman

Phillips
Rogic
Diangana

Dike

Button, Pieters, Molumby, Swift, Wallace, Grant, Thomas-Asante

Has the potential to be a real banana skin if we aren't prepared for it.

I do expect Corberan to rest a number of first team players but hopefully it won't be as many as I fear. I think he'll rest about 8.

I'd go:
                                                             Button
Furlong                    Ajayi                      Bartley (if fit) (otherwise Pieters )    Ashworth

                                                    Livermore   TGH

                   Diangana                                Rogic                                    Grant

                                                               Dike

Subs: McCann, O'Shea, Townsend/Pieters, Molumby, Reach, Phillips, Thomas-Asante.

But two very tough games after this, and off the back of a congested period.

I would look to rest players as much as possible. I think more than any other season the cup is not a priority this year.

I'd make quite a few changes, with strength on the bench. The changes are less about the fact we have a week after, but that its 5 days after a spell of 4 games in 10 days.

Cann
Ingram Ajayi Bryan Ashworth
Garner- Hickman Livermore Molumby Diangana
               Cleary Grant

Subs - Palmer, Kelly, O'Shea, Swift, BTA, Dike, Reach

I'd give Yokuslu, Wallace and Phillips the time off.

People say this every season.

I'm sure Button will play, back up keepers usually do. As far as outfield players are concerned I'd rest Yokuslu because we don't have a ready made replacement, Wallace because he's so important to us and maybe Pieters because he's about 103 years old ( ;)). Other than that I'd play a strong team:

                     Button

Furlong   OShea Ajayi     Townsend

                  TGH   Molumby
Diangana                           Phillips

O'Shea and Yokuslu definitely need some space, I would use it to see how the fringe players and those coming back from injury are shaping up.  Let's face it if some o the PL2 side aren't ready to line up against Chesterfield, what are we retaining them for?

                              Palmer

  Ingram          Bartley         Ajayi             Ashworth

                TGH    Livermore (capt)     Rico Richards

   Phillips                   BTA                  Grant/Diangana

Diangana                           Phillips

                   BTA   Rogic

People do say it every season - this is the first time i've ever said it. With the loan and the ownership etc. the league/premier league and finances that come with it are more important than ever before.

I agree that there is little doubt Button will play. With that in mind I would go:

                  Button

Inrgam   Kelly    Ajayi (assuming Bartley still out)  Ashworth

             TGH   Livermore

Reach        Rogic             Grant

                Cleary

Rogic has flattered to deceive in last couple of appearances, and this could be the sort of game he can't be bothered for, so I would be looking for a big performance from him if he wants to get back in starting XI for league games.

I agree with Mikkyk.

The cup is way less important than usual. We won't win it. We need to rest the first xi as CC wants to play them every game. We have a plenty big enough squad to put out a different xi for the cup games.

The backups need game time too

TBF not about winning it, getting someone interesting in the following rounds is lucrative.

We will have nearly a week before the game and no mid week fixture in the week following add to the fact the players have just had a month off then I see no reason not to put out a reasonably strong team. Certain players may need to be rested purely because of lack of cover in their position .

THere is no guarantee we will though and no even if we get Man U that won't save us from the damage Lai has done. We need PL money to increase chances of getting rid of that Lai person.

Games follow in quick succession with some of the better teams to come in quick order. Squads are there to be used imo.
