Its the present that worries me

Im sure its worrying Roy too thats why hes paid shed loads to do the job. Fact is he is emminently more qualified than any of us to sort it out. there are weaker teams out there than us wolves for one. i think that will bear out over the season............at least like all of us i hope so

Roys PL record with the baggies so far

P17 W6 D5 L6 Pts 23

suggests work in progress but more than enough to keep us in the premier league over the course of a season

If coaching means being shouted at 'get back' by Megson then yes. ;D

always thought koumas had a selective hearing problem :D   actually a wonderfully gifted player who just possibly needed the right coach

By the sounds of it we will let Dorrans go eventually because he will want to play football. I'd put him in front of Koumas as the most gifted footballer I think I've witness us having alongside Kanu when he was fully fit so why Morrison, who contributes next to nothing going by his performances this season, is picked ahead of him on a consistent basis, alarms me.

and thats being polite

So is Dorrans the new Jason Koumas, excellent going forward but a little lacking in defensive duties?

but was koumas ever coached to be more defensively aware?...theres a difference

Agreed. Personally I'd drop Long and put PO up top with Tchoyi playing just off him. Tchoyi looked pretty dangerous in the first 3 games and has been unfortunate to be dropped IMO.

strong argument that, though my little concern about somen is his ability to perform for a full 90 minutes from the ofski. may just be me but he seems to start to fade a bit around the 60minute mark. i maintain that to be a regular starter the minimum must be the ability to go the full 90 or your curtailing the coaches sub options. (returning from injury excepted of course)

For me the answer is clear. Drop scharner. This year he's looked poor and slow. Saturdays pen was a joke.

Without him dorrans is in the middle as mulumbu's out ball giving the time for the wide players to push on out of defines when we win the ball. He then has a choice of wings to pass to or into feet to one of the strikers coming short for it. Fluidity regained!

It's just whether Roy can manage the leap of faith required to drop scharner.

Lots of supporters are saying it including me. I think Roy will make a change along these lines or he may revert us back to a lone striker if he wishes to accomodate 2 DM,s. either way its a credit to the overall strength of our current squad that we have these options.

If reality is hoof ball and abysmal football then im afraid my home and away season ticket is being thrown away, i might aswell go and watch Stoke!!!

Try and be a little more patient is what i would say. Why would reality be hoofball for us? look at the squad of players we have at our disposal. possibly one of the best weve ever had and certainly one of the best most experienced coaches. i dont think they would know how to play hoof ball if it jumped up and smacked them in the face. agreed we havnt knocked it around to our usual standards so far but thats a million miles from us being stoke city. The reality is like all football teams sometimes you miss fire and that is probably all this is. I personally dont see one of roys teams going into total freefall like RDMs did last year. he,s too good a coach for that and im sure he will tweak things to get the results we hope for. But as he has said on several occasions publically already this is the toughest league in the world, not a place for the faint hearted.......keep your season tickets and keep the faith!!!!

I would suggest we tried to win playing 'ugly' on Saturday and it failed miserably. If we had set up as 451, i really do think we would have got something out of the game. We played into Swansea's hands and payed the ultimate price!!!
So what's your take on last Saturday? And the Stoke game?

jeez people have short memories! last season we went 18 games trying to to win with all out attack and got totally gubbed week in week out by everyone. before roy came in and saved us with some much  needed discipline and grit. stoke play rubbish all the time but up to last week were 9 unbeaten. if we cant face up to reality we might as well just drop down and coast in the championship

Even the best managers in the world sometimes have to step back and listen to what the fans are saying.

im a supporter of RH so this isnt a dig but im sure the Liverpool supporters might agree with this particular  sentiment. Overall i think roy has and is moving us forward in  terms of us becoming a solid PL outfit because anybody would have to be a bit blind to the facts if they thought our total football approach was going to keep us up there. we have to accept as fans if we want to remain there we have to learn how to win ugly some of the time something were not good at but you just cant pass your way through the sort of quality in this division

For me those two have worked hard and have been feeding off scraps, the midfield have created the square root of f**k all for them.

spot on. got a feeling were going to see some changes for Fulham though. be concerned if Roy persists again with both scharner and mulumbu in the middle unless he reverts to one up front. if he insists on keeping both long and odemwingie in then one would feel odem would have to move to a walcott right wing type role. dont sound right to me

Long was brought in with the specific idea we would play this static 442. Just like we brought in a very slow 30+ defender from the championship (McAuley) knowing full well his limitations, but with the idea that he wouldn't be exposed for lack of pace because our defensive line would sit very very deep.

This 442 rubbish was part of Roy's plan all along. :"(

not sure i agree 442 is static if you have a creative ball player in central midfield and at least one of your front two drops deep to link up the play. plenty of teams play 442 very effectively including the best team in the land who virtually play it de facto. roys cutting of his nose to spite his face by his apparent tacit rufusal to put some passing creativity in the middle a la cleverley, modric, arteta, lampard, adam

We were successful in the PL last season with a weak defence, why should it be any different this season? I hate how the defence this scapegoated for everything. The reason we've been terrible this season is Hodgson getting his tactics wrong - playing a system that doesn't suit our players, is completely different to the one they played in last season, totally unsuitable to this league and offers absolutely no attacking threat. Scoring the goals is just as important as keeping them out.

who said anything about scapegoating KP. the goals against tend to support this view despite our attacking abilities. the lack of pace in the back four and and inability to defend at basic set pieces are all to obvious. i dont think changing the system would materially effect this. some better calibre defenders would. on the plus side young dawson looks like he has potential.

You play Graham then you have to give him a licence to express himself, its no good saying tuck in and stay in this position.Im all for being organised but you have to undo teams(think Etherington at Stoke) to win games, same for Thomas too.We have attacking players so attack Roy!

agree totally. we all know either scharner or mulumbu has to step aside to put him in. is roy struggling with dropping a big personality like PS? to put our best player in?

think we have enough to stay up but feel it could be a bit of a struggle. need a strong defence to succeed in the PL. not sure we have one

parker/modric, cleverley/anderson, song/arteta, lampard/essien, barry/nasri, adam/lucas, scharner/mulumbu..................which is the odd pair?

one ball player one creator..................have to have a balance between attack and defend

an old fashioned winger really can run and dribble with the ball but often no end product. wish he went for the byeline instead of cutting inside all the time. never been a fan of right footed players on the left and vis versa. not sure roys tactical style suits him

as i've said elsewhere we needed to bring in quality defenders to bolster one of the worst defences in the league and we didn't so there's no way we can rely  on keeping clean sheets.  so the only way we are going to stay up is by playing attacking football

take your point although i think roy is attempting to find a happy medium between the two and he may well be on the right track only time will tell. we are and have always been a creative passing team and this is what we are struggling with at the moment. no dis respect to either but with scharner and mulumbu in the middle i see more of the same. i think roy is far too streetwise for that though and i remain convinced that he will tweak things to get us playing forward again

Not really a true analogy though is it.
Utd have 11 world class players leaving 10 to cover for anybody not pulling their weight.
We, on the other hand, need 11 average Prem players all pulling their guts out for every one of the 90 game minutes
They have a luxury that we dont

cant see whats not true about it at all. there is nothing average about Graham Dorrans in my opinion. hes not been able to show what he can do in the prem yet and those 10 world class players have to put in a shift in just the same as us. its 11 v 11 at the start of every game. at the end of the day its about putting your best players out their and believing in them. were not doing that at present and were poorer for it

You're only as good as your last season IMO and so Odemwingie, Mulumbu and Olsson are our best players. With Brunt, Morrison, Dorrans and Thomas all playing against Swansea, the midfield places are clearly up for grabs and there's nothing stopping Dorrans from getting in the side if he is good enough. He looked a bit cumbersome against Norwich.

Rooney was rubbish last season and dire in the world cup but Ferguson kept putting him out there and we all know the outcome? Dorrans was injured for a large part of last season but the season prior when fit was nothing short of sensational for the baggies.

Lots of talk about team formations being the current issue etc etc. Me i dont care a jot really how we line up because good players can play in any formation and good players make things happen on the pitch. And that is my point. All the best teams build around their best players and keep faith in them in form or not because they know that form is temporary and class is permanent!! ferguson vis a vis rooney if you see my meaning for example. SO can someone please explain to me why a fit graham dorrans our best player by a COUNTRY MILE! is not the first name on the teamsheet week in week out in his natural position in the centre of midfield where he can do just that INFLUENCE AND CHANGE GAMES...........just dont get it.
