Assuming the news about Sako is correct and taking Phillips injury into account, this is the likely line up...

                                            Johnstone

                                 Daws   Hegazi  Bartley (sadly)

Barnes   Livermore   Brunt or Barry    Sako

                                           JRod
                                                   Gayle

If Sako deal doesn't happen in time for this then it will be:

                                             Johnstone

                                 Daws       Hegazi      Bartley (sadly)

Mears (sadly)   Livermore   Brunt or Barry    Barnes

                                           JRod
                                                   Gayle

Gibbs will play... so we haven't got 10 men... Mears will play if Phillips isn't fit irrespective of Sako.

Quite right, i'm just having "a moment" and not counting correctly after looking at spreadsheets at work all day :-\

Have amended

Mears will play if Phillips isn't fit irrespective of Sako.

Really hope not... he's truly awful

Big game for us after a bad cup result.
Also if we are really looking to challenge for promotion we can't rely solely on our home form we need to get some results on the road

I would happily take 3points from the next 2 games. Think that's the minimum requirement. See Preston as the more winnable game of the 2. Saying that I don't think we have won at deepdale for a long old time.

Leeds and boro have both got a tough run coming. Both Leeds and boro have a trip to hull, boro also going to Ipswich then play forest who are beginning to find feet. Leeds also have Yorkshire derby away at shef  Wednesday followed by hull away then Brentford at home.

Although we have two away trips shef Wednesday on paper being the hardest we have reading at home and Preston away if we can string together a little run and this coincides with boro and Leeds dropping points we really could stamp our mark

Johnstone

Dawson
Hegazi
Bartley

Phillips (if fit)
Livermore
Barry
Morrison
Gibbs

Barnes

Gayle

Think we need a slight change of shape away we keep being overrun in midfield.

Preston ale recommendations
« Reply #29 on: September 27, 2018, 01:04:09 PM »
Hi Baggies,

On Saturday we meet for the first since 2008 I think when Carl Hoefkens played for you and Darren Carter played for us.

For those who like a quality beer or ten pre/post match this is just a quick post to recommend some of the watering holes that lay between Preston railway station and Deepdale inc numerous new places that have opened since you last visited.

First up is the Plug & Taps on Lune Street (PR1 2NN) the nearest bar/pub to the station (2/3mins walk). With four cask & ten keg taps the P&T is very much a craft ale focused bar run by two great lads with a big passion for good beer despite only being 23-25 years old. Currently on the bar are beers by Rivington, Marble, Slim Pickens, Wylam, Odyssey, Tenby, Left Hand Brewing, Wild Weather, Thornbridge, Torrside, Farmyard, Titanic and Outstanding breweries whilst the P&T fridge is crammed full of great beers from all over the place. P&T is also handily next door to the Lune Street chippy. For more info see @plugtapspr1 on Twitter or Plug And Taps on Facebook.

This year saw the opening of Preston's new outdoor market complex and with it Orchard (PR1 2JA), a microbar who like P&T, focus mainly on craft keg beer with ten taps and only two cask pumps. Orchard is rather small but well worth a visit especially if you fancy something to eat from the vast selection in the market which you can consume in the bar with your pint. Aside from ale there is also a healthy selection of (boxed) cider, gin, rum and wine. Currently on the bar are beers from Hacker Pschoor, Budvar, Beavertown, Serious, Cloudwater, Small World, Wishbone, Top Rope and Parker breweries. For further information check out @theorchardpres1 on Twitter/Instagram and Orchard on Facebook.

Next up is The Guild Ale House on Lancaster Road (PR1 1DD), Preston's first ever micropub which is handily just 30 seconds walk from Orchard (and still only 5/6 mins from the station). GAH is more traditional in its approach to beer with six cask pumps and three craft keg taps whilst Paulaner & Bavo pils are on draught for non-ale drinkers. There is no music, no TV and no sport in GAH, just healthy chatter and plenty of beer based reading material. Currently on the bar are beers from Beatnikz Republic, Wishbone, Malvern Hills, Higsons, Serious, Bank, Moorhouse, Beavertown and Castle Rock breweries with two fridges stocked with craft bottles and cans and a large number of Belgium beers. For more information see @guildalehouse on Twitter/Instagram and Guild Ale House on Facebook.

Preston's newest addition to the ale scene is Vinyl Tap on Adelphi Street (PR1 2HE). Sister pub to The Moorbrook the VT is a café, pub and music venue rolled into one with breakfasts/lunch/coffee from 8am, a shed load of good beer and dozens of vinyl records for you to choose from and put on the turntable. Currently on the bar are beers from Welbeck Abbey, Bad Seed, Beatnikz Republic, Blackjack, Tiny Rebel & Kernel breweries whilst the fridge is occupied by cans of Cloudwater, Atom, Shindigger and Dig Brew Co. Due to being half-tied VT is a place where non-ale drinkers can sup the usual 'popular draft' brands. For further info please @vinyltappreston on Twitter & Vinyl Tap on Facebook.

My final recommendation is the jewel in Preston's beer crown. The Moorbrook on North Road (PR1 1RU) was the first pub in Preston to specialise in craft beer in both cask and keg form and truly is the best pub in town. With ten cask pumps and five keg taps serving ale from throughout the UK and beyond The Moorbrook is a handy halfway point between station and ground (15mins walk from each) with extensive parking to the rear for those in the car/minibus courtesy of a now closed B&Q. As well as quality ale The Moorbrook serves freshly made woodfired pizzas from its oven in the beer garden as well as homemade burgers, both are utterly delicious! Currently on the bar are beers from Wander Beyond, Cromarty, Kernel, Castle Rock, Pomona Island, Blackjack, Dig, Fyne Farmyard and Blackjack breweries whilst for those not into their ale Guinness, Thatcher's, Stella 4, Bavo and Campus pilsners are available on draught with Paulaner, Augustiner Edelstoff, Peroni Red and Corona in the fridges. There is also a wide range of wines and spirits. If you are only able to visit one pub on Saturday or can't be bothered moving from pub to pub make The Moorbrook the one you get to. For further information please see @themoorbrook on twitter, The Moorbrook on Facebook or www.themoorbrook.com.

Another couple of places worth mentioning are The Old Vic directly opposite the railway station and The Black Horse on Friargate as both open at 11am rather than 12pm. The Old Vic usually has three/four mainstream cask beers on whilst The Black Horse is a stunningly beautiful pub from the 1700s that serves Robinson's and guest beers from six cask pumps.

One final note please ignore the police advice on where to drink if you like good beer, especially @pnepolice on Twitter who will just send you to places that are easy to police.

Safe journey up and see you on Saturday.

Last time I went there was a park opposite the club shop with trees all down the road and I just parked there, no charge but obviously few years ago now so might have changed, time before parked on a street just around the corner from the away end

Past down the Blackpool Rd today , where the avenue of trees - you mentioned are opposite Moor Park. Unfortunately, there are double yellows now. However, As I said previously there is free parking on the streets dotted around the back of the ground.

If that’s a quick post I’d hate to read your long ones😉 anyway thanks for the heads up. My first visit ever to Deepdale on Saturday so looking forward to it. Arriving by train around 11.00 so hopefully a pub will be open then. If you come to the Hawthorns then the place to go is the Vine read the reviews on trip advisor- my Leicester pals say it the best away day of the season and not just because they beat us every time at the hawthorns

I actually applaud Oldbury WBA's attempt to have posts we can actually read.

yes, Albionic you are right but the English language is being slowly mangled and obliterated and it's distressing.

Many thanks to pnealefan, really wished I lived in the UK so I could take advantage of some of those pubs.
Love the one run by the 23 and 25 year olds, they must have energy to burn and plenty of pluck. Good luck to them.

Don’t know when you were last in Pom land but the real ale / micro brewery landscape has changed drastically over the last few years.there are so many great places to go and drink decent beer now its really good for us non lager chaps! Long may it stay this way and credit to the young people for embracing it !!

:D won't be changing our stance on that at all my friend. Having had to scroll through posts on Facebook which no-one can understand theres no way this site is going to end up like that. Not very often we have to mention it these days to be honest but we've had a few lately so nowt wrong with a reminder from time to time.

Plug & Taps likely to be open by 11am as they've been given the heads up on trains and tickets sold. If not The Vic opposite the station will definitely be open as will Vinyl Tap as it will be knocking out breakfasts.

Just watch out for the plod marching large groups into pubs of their choice and keeping them there until just before kick-off.

Looking forward to the match only my 3rd ever visit to Preston (1st was for a gig in 1993) saw us get beat in 2001, pretty sure it was the last game before the play offs but my mind might be playing tricks on me. If memory serves me right they scored early in both halves and we scored about halfway through 1st half..think it was Neil Clement for us.

Impossible (the second team) as there is no home grown player listed. Field will be on the bench.

From a speed read of the link below he could name the second side so long as he used six subs instead of seven.

'.........In addition to the increase in home grown players that will be required on EFL’s clubs team sheets, a new definition will be introduced to the EFL Rules and Regulations, that of the “club-developed” player. Each EFL club will need to include one “club-developed” player in their match day squad, who will be defined as a player who has been registered with their current team for at least 12 months prior to the end of their U19 season. Should a club fail to name such a player, they will only be able to name 6 substitutes rather than the normal allocation of 7......'.

Impossible (the second team) as there is no home grown player listed. Field will be on the bench.

I'd completely forgotten about that! yep Field will be an unused sub to get round the ruling.

Don’t know when you were last in Pom land but the real ale / micro brewery landscape has changed drastically over the last few years.there are so many great places to go and drink decent beer now its really good for us non lager chaps! Long may it stay this way and credit to the young people for embracing it !!

Unfortunately mate I haven’t been to England since 1975 when I was 10! Was drinking something different back then!

But a visit is on my bucket list. I have relatives in Surrey and I’ve never been to the Hawthorns. Have to rectify that!
