Exactly, they know they aren't the real champs as the quakes would destroy them :P

Do you know anywhere that delivers MLS tops to the UK, 1 of the lads in the office is on about getting 1. Also on the subject of tops why is every team in the MLS sponsored by adidas?

http://www.mlsgear.com/

(Any shirt worn by a professional team in any sport in the US is called a "jersey".)

Also, if you see "replica jersey" somewhere, particularly if they also have a more expensive "authentic jersey" for sale, then the replica version is a cheaper, lighter grade than the real thing.

Perfect example: http://www.mlsgear.com/shop-by-mls-team-d-c--united-on-field.html
The "authentic" one is the real thing; the ones without "authentic" are the cheaper "replica" variety. Or at least that's been my experience buying "jerseys".

Since MLS is a single corporate entity, they tend to negotiate large, league-wide deals on behalf of all the clubs. One of them is with Adidas.

Indeed. But I'm sure they sell a small fraction of the number of EPL & Championship shirts sold. Plus you might be able to find one cheaper. I went to the one place I was certain would have the real thing and ship it anywhere.

By the way, Shane, if you're up really late (1 AM), DC United are away to Philadelphia Union tonight. They're coming off a 4-1 win over third-place RSL in which Dwayne De Rosario scored three goals in nine minutes to take the lead for the Golden Boot.

There should be plenty of streams, being on ESPN 2 & 3 and the only game in North America tonight.

Attendance of 64140 tonight in Seattle for a meaningless, end-of-season contest between Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes. Unreal. It was like an NFL crowd.

Now have I imagined this or did the mad dog in the fog allways used to sponsor one of our players during the 90's?

WBAinDEVON mentioned something about Mad Dog in the Fog being owned by a Baggie at some point. I asked some of the employees about a possible Baggie connection, but they knew amazingly little about football, considering where they work. All I could find online was a story about how it was a Villa :o pub ten years ago, and it's where some abomination called "AVFC California" currently meet to watch games.

Is Wondolowski any good? I followed DCU's finish to the season and De Roasrio is quality despite the fact he's starting to get on a bit now

Safe to say that no-one who isn't good gets on that list.

Wondo is the perfect example of why the US produces few world-class footballers. He was raised a short distance from me here in the San Francisco Bay Area, playing baseball and running track and field, as well as playing soccer. He only came to the attention of MLS at a local tryout after graduating from university. In Europe or South America, someone with his athletic ability would have been training with a professional club from an early age.

He isn't a great dribbler, he isn't known for his shot, but he has an excellent first touch and is particularly skilled at volleys. His movement off the ball is exemplary. He's a prototypical goal poacher.

De Rosario is one of the greatest ever to play in MLS. He has four MLS Cups and six MLS Best XIs.

2011 MLS Cup final

LA Galaxy 1 - 0 Houston Dynamo
Landon Donovan 72'

Houston were missing their best player. Too bad Beckham's contract is up; he finally had a really good season. Galaxy have such a hole at striker. Adam Cristman managed to flub all of Beckham's service in the box. Wondo would be perfect for them.

I watched it. It certainly was better than last year's final. I thought Houston played well under the circumstances. Without Brad Davis, they couldn't put together any decent chances. LA Galaxy are very tough to break down with their excellent back four, particularly at home.

Thankfully Houston didn't park the bus and had a go, but eventually Beckham, Keane and Donovan had too much quality for them. Cristman's misses were abysmal. I wouldn't be surprised not to see him with Galaxy next year.

Glad Beckahm managed to win something there in the end. He always managed to do it near the end of his time at a club. Will be interesting to see if he can win 2 titles in one season when he makes his move to Paris St Germain.

I don't know why the hell I'm saying it's too bad his contract is up. I can still watch him play for PSG, and he won't be playing against San Jose.

I don't think so. At least I haven't heard anything yet.

The big news has been the release of our protected players list. When a new club is added to a US/Canadian league, they get to pick some players from the existing clubs in what is called an "expansion draft". Yesterday each MLS club submitted a list of eleven players which are protected from being selected by the incoming Montreal Impact.

Montreal get to pick ten unprotected players, no more than one from each club. There are quite a few decent (but probably overpaid) players that went unprotected, so Montreal should be competitive right away. The idea is to ensure that the new club aren't hopelessly undermanned and have a chance to succeed before the fan novelty wears off.

Goals of the Year.

2004 and 2005 are both Dwayne De Rosario from when he was with San Jose.

One of the 2011 candidates was by Brek Shea (number 20 blue FC Dallas shirt), who is training with Arsenal this month. If I could pluck one player from MLS and deposit him in West Bromwich, it would be him.

Some cracking goals in there. I particularly like the goal from the Portland Timbers chap, great goal that was. It also shows how far the MLS has came in my opinion. It's only going to get better as well. Exciting times.

Maybe, but without Beckham it could decline hugely, like it did when Pele left a while back.

Maybe, but without Beckham it could decline hugely, like it did when Pele left a while back.

No no no no, Pele left the old North American Soccer League after the 1977 season, twenty years before MLS even existed. Average NASL attendance continued to increase after Pele left and was 30% higher in 1978. The NASL died strictly because of mismanagement, trust me.

Beckham probably caused a modest surge in interest when he arrived five years ago, but that's all. The growth since then has had very little, if anything, to do with him. Until this season, he hadn't played very much, and he isn't nearly the celebrity in America that he is elsewhere.
