I wasn't against Luke Williams at first but the way he has acted since the links started means i would stay well clear. The way he is treating Swansea currently when he is asked about the job is disrespectful in my opinion and apparently he did the same whilst at Notts County.

I’m not adverse to bringing Williams in it’s good the club are looking to recruit a similar style of manager, look how disastrous the appointment of Val was we lurked from one style to another which resulted in a mish mash of players unsuited to play any 1 style of football.

There is a middle ground.

For me, i would not like to see a coach appointed whose strategy is to slow the game down using possession for possessions sake. But then i understand we can't lurch to another style so quickly. Corberan v2 with a bit more attacking intent and some more direct passing in the final third would do me nicely. Don't think Williams is that man though.

I did not realise that Damia Abella was in the the back room staff who won a promotion with Claudio Ranieri in 2021 at Watford. I'm quite enjoying Brunt ball, so take your time appointing a permanent manager!

I'd warmed to him initially after some of what i had read, but I agree having now seen his comments from yesterday and those from last week.  I don't think he has handled this well at all.

I understand him perhaps not wanting to lie or mislead the Swansea fans if he is interested, and perhaps he thinks a non committal response is is disingenuous or leads to speculation anyway, but to engage with the press in the way he has is just bizarre.

Dood. Regarding Williams I assume

"It will be sorted either way before we play Swansea.

Both clubs want it resolved to stop any more disruption.

It will get done or we walk away and move on.

#WBA"

I hope we walk rather than feel forced to make a decision.

After Swansea's capitulation the other day, I'm firmly on the NO camp for Williams.
Folk may say that the team are affected by the speculation but if so, that means (for me) that Williams doesn't have the ability to coach/manage/inspire the team out of that funk and thats a red flag for me. If its because he's affected by the speculation, then I want a stronger head in charge.

Maybe Abella is the answer and he had stayed with us hoping to get the top job.

Brunt being the loans manager always made me think he wasn't interested in managing and I don't know if he has all his badges.

Not sure Williams is the right fit for us, doesn't seem to be that progressive.

His record at Swansea is pretty uninspiring too W9 D6 L10 and a GD of 0. (29 scored and conceded).

Obviously, I'll get behind him, should he become head coach, but it just seems so uninspiring.

I’d argue our squad is a lot stronger than Swansea so difficult to judge.

What have you seen in Williams to suggest he should get the gig?
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

I haven’t, I’m just saying our squad is stronger than Swansea. I’d go for cooper, but if he’s not available then it’s all much of a muchness. Eustace, Schumacher, Williams etc. Would have expected we would go abroad but Pearce is heavily involved and has a relationship with Williams already.

Interesting to hear what Paul Merson said on skysports. He was talking about something else not WBA but he did say that its the training staff that are more important than the manager. When he was manager at Walsall he said he had a 60 year old coach there name Frank Barlow. He was the one doing all the hard work in training, Merson said all he had to do was pick the team. It was easy and they couldn't stop winning.

So in our situation maybe Abella is the answer rather than having a whole new training staff with new ideas which the players need to learn.

I’ve always thought going back to Roberto Martinez that Swansea have always had proper football managers. Playing a nice style of football. Obviously to differing results. I wouldn’t necessarily rule out Williams due to an unspectacular job he’s done/doing there because they’re not a million miles from us in terms of league position but I think out 11 at least is stronger. Of the achievable options out there I like his profile. Unless there’s an overseas gem on the radar I think we could do a lot worse.

He had one of the best squads in NL when he took Notts County to promotion, so you may well have something. I would add that having better players doesn't necessarily mean he will be successful here as he will still have to set us up right and get the best out of them.
I don't remember Swansea being particularly good when they came here in August.

Given the speculation around him and the verbal gymnastics he is going through not confirm or deny the rumours we have an interest in Luke Williams.

Thoughts on him. Decent track record at Notts County (big fish at National League level) got promotion but significantly manged the transition at League 2 level and had them 5th by the time he left. Took over a failing Swansea side and steered them out of danger last season. He has them playing well and are a solid mid-table with what is not a great squad. They are significantly under performing their XG for which means they are creating chances without finishing them.

I think stylistically he would be similar to Corberan so we are not about to undergo a 180 degree about face tactically. There is some evidence that he isn't overly dogmatic he has worked with both 3 and 4 man defences but his is a possession heavy style. Overall I wouldn't say he is my first choice from the names that have been put out there but a decent appointment,

The last Williams gig I went to he said 'let me entertain you' so he's certainly a real showman...

I echo some of the comments raised in this thread. Some of the remarks made by Williams are a bit classless really. It sounds like he is very much begging for the job.

Dood has reposted the below, which sounds like we've got Williams on his way if true. Not my choice but hey ho.

Swansea Independent
@swansea_indy

"Very indirect rumours that Luke Williams has either gone or preparing to leave. Not from us btw. No info from those we know.

If that is true then Lukey has been spinning us along all week. It wouldn’t happen in just a morning.

The only thing we had was a proposed interview tomorrow morning. That we do know. Hopefully this will bring about some quick closure.

Mr Baggies is back now, his first tweet since end of August, the 4th 'ITK' just posted a cryptic 'clock' symbol which frankly can mean anything  ;D
