The basic fact that this is overall our worst squad this century will mean we don’t make the playoffs. We are delusional if we think next season will be any improvement without a complete overhaul of the squad .

My heart says we will claw back the points deficit (dingle style) and scrape 6th and go up as the form team.

But then I look at our team again and head says we'll get 65 points and miss out by about 9 points.

A win tomorrow and we go 5 points from 5th with a game in hand on Blackburn.
7 points this weekend and we’d still have a small chance.
9 points and we’re back in business.

Before we consider if we have the players to do it, I worry that 3 tough games in 6 days is too much of an ask for every team at this level.

I don’t think blackburn are the issue. Forest are top of the form table and Boro are 5th. Both are likely to put space between them and blackburn. In fact If they win their games in hand it’s still an 8 point gap to 6th for us. Of course they have to win their matches but even if they don’t they are likely to take 75% of their available points.

Meanwhile our form / performances are patchy and I can’t remember the last time we won three in a row.

Ignoring the fact that some of the teams involved are to play each other and we win our next two games
the maximum any team can have when they have played 40 games is as follows
Forest 70 Boro 68 Luton 67 Huddersfield 66 Blackburn 62 and Sheffield United 64 Wba 60 so we would be 6points outside the play offs which would be possible but I still don't think we will be promoted.

Playoffs or not, momentum is important for the summer. Need to finish the season on a high and carry that on to next season.

There’s a lot of misguided hope here

These bunch of players are not good enough to put the consistent run of form together that we need.

I’m glad I never got my hopes up..

A win in either of the blues or Bristol city games and there would be a chance. Our run in is on paper the easiest in the top half. Any sign of pressure though and we lose, imagine this lot at Wembley!

I'm honestly not bothered about the play offs this season but I'd like to see a run of wins towards the end of the season and good performances - to see the nucleus of a team who can challenge better next season.

I'm sick of watching a few of them stroll around like they think they should be playing for Real Madrid and not doing the basics so last night was refreshing seeing them chase back e.g. at one point Livermore pushed Robinson to get him to close down instead of Robinson as usual daydreaming about the last pass he made and Mowatt got up and down the pitch - looked his age instead of someone 38 running through treacle.

One game at a time though...........it could easily be another blues performance (shudder) at the weekend

On paper we have four games at home against teams that have nothing to play for so in theory we should get maximum points. Our two away games are against teams fighting for playoffs in Forest and fighting to stay in league when it comes to Reading but the latter could be safe by the time we play them. Optimistically we should garner fifteen points but with these player’s we could lose the lot.
