Grady was bad, but imo he cannot play centrally, especially against a good side.

He was crowded out on every occasion the ball came to him.

Is was only playing there because Swift' s form is terrible. GD will have to do what the boss wants, but I will be very surprised if he starts against Coventry.

I hope it isn't disappointment from coming back from the Afcon without a medal.

He definitely cannot start on wings at the moment with the way TF and MJ are playing.
Agree with alot of  that. He has his best games on the wing. In the middle he tends to get crowded out when trying to dribble his way through whole clusters. He's not a physical player who is going to win many 50-50 tackles.

However, it is indeed very difficult to leave out TF or MJ at the moment. That can change though, and as we know, CC usually substitutes forwards during games, so he should still get plenty of chances.

In the match vs Hull, both teams were trying to stifle the central playmakers.  Okay was playing quite advanced against Seri and Diangana had two or three players around him as soon as he got the ball.  He's not the type that can ride a tackle but then neither is Swift who plays a lot out wide latterly.

As others have said he isn’t a central cf or central attacking midfielder ,so he was playing out position, and you could see he was getting frustrated but tbf to him he didn’t stop working ,I like Grady it wernt long ago people were saying he’s back to his best so it’s abit unfair the critism he’s had after Saturday

What really annoyed me that in the Coventry game last night and apart from his goal, was Grady Diangana who time and time again gave the ball away to an opponent and consistently lost possession when challenged even when there was an easy pass available to one of his own teammates.

It’s as though he doesn’t think, visualise or know where his teammates are and causes that loss of possession which, sometimes, is in dangerous areas that results in shots on our goal.

I’ve always liked Grady but he badly needs to up his game and realise he cannot beat ten opponents and that it is a team game.

Thought he was our worst player on the night goal masked over that. He is not a number 10 and never will be. Rather us try Wallace there if he doesn't want to play swift and start weimann up top

Some on the comments I feel are way over the top ,took his goal well worked extremely hard yeah he did lose the ball but in the end of the day he ain’t a number 10 so being played completely out of position ,when swift come on he lost the ball just as much ,I like Grady wasn’t his fault we payed that fee ,he’s still got something that a lot of our players haven’t got ,wernt long before he went to afcon that alot on here were saying we’re seeing the Grady of old ,short memories

Playing in the middle means he has a lot less time and is under pressure immediately.  It's very different playing on the wing where you have space down the lines to work with.  Grady is at his best with space in front to run into, not receiving it with his back to the goal and holding it up.

The thing is, I agree it's bad if he's losing the ball - and it was very noticeable in the first 10 mins - but he was always showing and looking for the ball.  You have to compare that to other players who aren't even showing or available.  That's a far worse crime.

I just don't think he's suited to the role he's being asked to play all his inconsistency aside

At the moment he's 4th choice to play on the wing. And that's his natural position. If we hadn't lost all our forwards to injury woulde he even make the subs bench?

Once a lot of people are back after international break it's going to be interesting to find out!

Not working in the middle is it, but his goal shows his class when he is in a position to just be instinctive, that was a very good finish

Throughout his Albion career as soon as a coach has played Diangana anywhere other than left wing he looks like a fish out of water. The goal was well taken but it has to be said without it he was a 5/10 performance at best. For whatever reason Corberan has persisted playing him at 10 ahead of Swift. Whether this is because of Swift's own form/fitness or because Corberan thinks that Diangana brings something different to the role particularly in combination with Wallace we  don't know.

If everyone is fit I don't think he is a starter and some weeks he wouldn't make the bench.

I think he's got a bit of a post AFCON hangover. He's come back and found others are on form while he's struggling a bit with his own in a role which is highlighting some of his deficiencies.

That said he's still working. He may be getting outnumbered and knocked off the ball but he isn't hiding and having more than one player on him means more space for others.

While clearly not performing to the heights we'd all like he's obviously doing enough for Carlos. No idea if he's doing enough in his own mind but I feel he's got a significant part to play in the games ahead.

This puts it in context. Imo, it's his second best season at the club and shows he has improved compared to his last couple of seasons. While he's not at his peak, he's still been decent at times this season and has shown a bit more consistency. Before AFCON he was in really good form and has come back in the cold a little. Nonetheless, his goal is a positive and shows he's still an asset. I really don't think he's as bad as some are making out.

He is a known quantity, and he does get swarmed which reveals his lack of head up vision - but if he's getting double marked it is going to make space elsewhere as someone above has pointed out

I think it provides some context but for me he doesn’t pass the eye test. His goal and assist stats might be three quarters of his best but he’s not half the player IMO. He’s capable of a lot better.

I am not really sure what Gradys best position is any more.

He has and probably will always be skillfull, when he first joined he also had a accelerarion and pace so he could beat somebody with his skill and get away.

However since that injury before lockdown he has never recaptured that acceleration and pace and likely probably never will, quite often now he does the nice footwork but cant get away and gets tackles.

He probably has relied on that skillset throughout his career as a winger, he isnt a Wallace, Fellows or Phillips type winger who can whip powerful crosses in, his way was always taking a player or two out the game with his runs and then pulling back or laying it off, now he isnt able to do that very often.

Every now and then he has those moments and he gets into better scoring positions than our other wingers but i can see why CC is trying him in a new central role, he has struggled the last couple of games but i would persist with him and give him a run, especially as Swift hasnt been in good form.

He is different to Swift there too, Swifts passing means he can hit a pass from anywhere and cut teams open, Grady cant, but he can work in tighter positions, he probably needs to do that, beat a man to create space and lay it off right away especially as he doesnt seem to be able to get away from opponents, when we struggle to break teams down i would try both Swift and Grady behind the striker.

I dont think his effort or attitude can be questioned, he works so hard, i would probably say he tries too hard at times but the skills are still there its just working out if he can fit into CC's system.

I'm not entirely convinced he is either to be honest, seems caught in two minds at times. Good job he was in the right place at the right time against Coventry mind  8) .

I think there are two extremes going on with Grady and opinions of him. One is that of high expectations from his loan season with us, he then failed to hit those heights so people’s opinions were low of him. He then had quite long time of being way way below his capabilities and disappointing us all and most likely himself too and I think we saw that on the pitch. That season/period of time was also plagued with injuries, niggles and basically no first team run. Momentum was completely lost.

Under Corberan he has started to look like he enjoys his football again, he’s celebrating with the fans and smiling and more importantly - 10 goal involvements and on track to match his loan season in terms of stats.

He’s not as electric and exciting as he was but he is equally as effective, he may even end up with better stats than his loan season.

He’s got my backing. Oh and he works very hard off the ball too.

I think he is having a decent season and the opposition do not enjoy having to deal with his unpredictability alongside two direct wingers out wide.

The one thing I noticed on Friday was that he made a mess of the simple things but then quite often was brilliant at rescuing bad passes and squirming around three players when he had no right, like an inverted footballer. The more challenging the position the better he was and then when he had loads of time and easy pass he stumbled. Bearing in mind he only recently returned from the AFCON I am more than willing to be patient.

I've only today discovered he's a budding artist as I've come across his alternative Instagram profile showcasing his artistic skills!

Not bad.
