What has happened to our support for OUR players
« on: September 29, 2015, 07:14:09 AM »
After witnessing some of our supporters jeering Jonas at his first misplaced pass (and by the way he was handling Lukaku very well at that stage) , I am disgusted at the apparent disregard for a player who has been a mainstay of this team for many years. On the other hand, the majority of supporters seemed to be happy to give great applause, to an opposition player leaving the field having just put the final nail in our coffin. The love in with Lukaku really should stop now, he ain't our player, nor will he ever be again. Some of our new players ( Lambert and Chester, especially), are really struggling with a lack of confidence at the moment and need to be given some slack. There were worryingly even some groans in Rondon's direction last night. I am not asking for supporters to cheer poor play/mistakes by players, but if you can't encourage then please keep ya gob shut!

Agreed incredible really applauding opposition players off the field after scoring against us, groans at our own players especially ones like Ollson who have served the club well.

Much easier to play away from home nowadays for a lot of teams.

Great post totally agree with you on all points.
Think we can all see Jonas is getting slower but he's never been blessed with pace but he has been a great servant and a reason we have been in prem for several years
Whenever we are playing badly, just remember -
Paul Chrichton,Neil Parsley, Andy Mcdermott, Scott Darton, Winston White,Mark Angel, Fabian DeFreitas, Paul Williams......now, do you feel better?

Agreed. Lukaku was great when he was with us but he has moved on and so should we. He had his applause at the start and when the whistle blows we should be behind our team. I was pleased to not hear any boo's for Maclean either. Thought he put a hell of a shift in once again and is growing in confidence.....

Our support, along with most other clubs, is awful. Brunt, Morrison, Olsson should be treated like gods, instead we do that for a player we once had on loan, who banged 2 past us and elected to celebrate in front of our fans.

Olson, brunt and Morrison are gods. Lukaku is a reminder what could have been if we had shown some fu*king gumption and bought him.

I agree with the sentiment of cheering and supporting our players - the groans certainly don't help. However, there is nothing wrong with showing a player who played for us and really bought into what we are all about here, appreciation either.

To be fair, Lukaku showed us great respect by applauding us when he went off. I think it was only right that we returned the gesture.

He is one of the real gents of the game at the moment.

Andy Hunt's return to the Hawthorns reminded me of a time when the players we were watching in general were not a patch on the one's we have today but somehow we managed to support them in a more positive way. I don't think we are unique in this pretty much every group of fans especially at home seem to be inebriated off unless they are winning by a couple of goals.

The Lukaku love in is a bit odd after three season's I would have thought it would have died down. I would point out to all those who harbour delusions that he might have been ours permanently or even for second loan season there was never a realistic chance, because Lukaku is every bit as ambitious as Berahino and wants to progress his career way beyond the current limits of the Albion, however he is a lot smarter than Saido. Trust me if he has a good year and Everton don't make champions league football Lukaku will be looking for the next move this summer.

No they would be replaced by players of a similar quality and our fans would be moaning at them rather than the current squad.

It was much more fun supporting Albion when we were rubbish in the 90s and we had a laugh. Too much expectancy now is ruining it, our home atmosphere is terrible compared to how it used to be.

Expectancy kills a lot of things, In time it will go though I think especially with the way were heading.

Watched the match at a beach bar and to be fair own support came across pretty loud at times ......hardly heard Everton until the equaliser.
And talking of moaning,  we sat with the home fans at Goodison when we thrashed them 4-1 and the Scousers were crucifying their players and Moyes......as bad as anything at the Hawthorns.

The amount of people that have whinged about Romelu being clapped is incredible considering no one on here batted an eyelid at an ex-Dingle, current Villa player who supports Villa getting applauded. Very bizarre.

I clapped Lukaku off the pitch and have no reservations about doing this. Don't boo our own individuals either, unlike some.
No no, no no no no, no no no no, no no shots on target.......

It's an interesting point that - I can remember when Albion fans used to help build player's confidence and sing songs about particular players to help make them play better or maybe I dreamt it......? It wasn't that long ago that Mulumbu's name was sung. The PR between players and fans has hit an all time low which might be rooted in Odemwingie and Berahino style lack of respect which just wouldn't happen in the real World away from the football bubble.

How does this change; success - not sure as Berahino didn't get much support for the past couple of years in spite of him scoring a few.

The love in with Lukaku is getting a bit much now............people are within their rights to clap him but let's move on and find one or two heros in our club eh? Morrison, Brunt, Fletcher, Yacob and now Rondon all seem committed players who have that potential to become cult heros but will the fans let them...........?

The supporters have been giving Rondon a lot of support thus far, long may it continue.

Can't believe how naive people are to believe Lukaku would have entertained the idea of signing a 5 year contract here, us paying anywhere near the £5m loan fee then a year later, the £28m transfer fee and £100k a week wages Everton have had to shell out.

You are right Legend....... the trip to Wembley, Superbob and Hunty being the scourge of many a defence, [great to see them together last night] and numerous local derby's, both good and bad. Always remember the rocket of a goal from Darren Bradley against the Dingles, Roberts upending Bully and then standing over him and sticking his hand in his pocket, and Superbob heading a last minute winner at the Blues when they were OK and we were poor. Indeed, much more fun that this game of chess we have to put up with these days.........
