You just know he’s going to start Swift.
If he does the place will go into a total meltdown, I'm fairly ambivalent about most things, even football, but if he starts Swift or is stupid enough to bring him on as a sub then he can expect my most severest tut of displeasure!

Not long home after what proved to be a fairly frenetic game but feel we did just enough to take it
Have to say the ref was pretty poor, let several wrestling matches by big bruisers in yellow go unchecked and himself to be surrounded by Watford players numerous times
Any one know of a spare ticket for Coventry please let me know

The Government aren’t funding it so I’m not sure why knickers are in a twist.

Man United are clearly going to pay for the ground and the Government will contribute to investment and travel projects in the vicinity of the area. It is already earmarked to create 90,000 jobs and will help bring private investment into the area.

Like it or not, they’re an institution in England, as iconic as Parliament, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace so such investment schemes warrant Govt backing.
Blimey Liam I didn't realise Manchester United were your 'second team'  :o  ;) ;) ;)

General Football & Sports / Re: OFFICIAL NON LEAGUE THREAD
« on: February 26, 2025, 04:50:01 PM »
Here we go with me bumping up another long dead thread
I've been thinking for some time now I really must give the non league teams around me, Redditch, Halesowen, Stourbridge, Kiddy, Alvechurch etc (have I missed anyone?) a look over as some of the 'stuff' I've seen on line recently they really seem to have an old school atmosphere about them with some proper local rivalries.
Anyone here regulars or even occasional visitors to their local non league teams? Any thoughts or advice about visiting their grounds? Particularly can you normally pay on the gate, cash or card? Or do you need to become a member and buy tickets in advance?

Anyone else, probably mostly those who are from my generation I'm in my early 70's, rather gleefully watching their current demise and the rapid decent into the current state of carnage both on and off the pitch?
Yes, I do feel sorry for the ordinary employees who look to be carrying most of the cost cutting load but feel absolutely nothing for the playing and management side, who so far seem to still be insulated from real life.
As you may surmise I despise them almost as much as I do the seals, and yes I am an old Birmingham Baggie

I know I used to take the Micky about the topics discussed in these, however I seem to recall the puddle outside the Brummie Road end was a hot topic a few years back. I note it continues to be there during particularly heavy downpours and hope that it manages to get the attention it deserves again at future AA meetings.
AH but which puddle are you referring to? There is the one Dan mentions on the Halfords corner but there is much bigger one outside the players car park which has caught me out more than once and watching a game with one wet and cold sock 'int funny. For clarity I usually walk from the station up the Halfords, turn right across the Brummie, give Jeff a lucky pat on the back on the way through his gates, down the side of Rainbow to give Bombers boot a lucky rub, before turning right again into the Smeth. So I have a lot of interactions with both puddles!

Just to give a slightly different perspective to this thread, I'm currently limping along on a crutch and stand near the back of the Smeth and head down to the concourse on 89/90 minutes, simply for me own safety, and usually watch the remainder of the game on one of the TV's down there. Given what I saw from there of the celebrations I would have probably needed to be stretchered out of there if I'd stayed put. It was bedlam in the concourse too but great fun to be a minor part of

Did well and I particularly liked his preparedness to occasionally give a quick throw out to get things moving at speed

Surely the club know we are absolutely desperate for a striker?  You can't just have one.  I remember when we had 5 and all top players.   I really don't understand this can someone ITK explain?

Hopefully we have done the groundwork as Nestor indicated the other day and it's only a question now of Mowbray deciding which one he prefers.  I have a sneaky feeling it could be the Chap from Ipswich we were after in the summer or Riis from PNE.

I think we need two, a big man and a fox in the box SKP type.  If only the current manager knows where we can get a Bednar or Miller.  Brewster at Sheff U must be available, could the current manager do something with him?
You do know we are under considerable financial constraints ATM don't you? I agree about the needs you indicate but we are not in a position to splash the cash as freely as you seem to want us to

Have to say he has beefed up considerably since his playing days, quite Rooneyesq in stature now.
Do we think he will be switch to first team goalkeeping coach or return to his work with the youngsters?
Watching him 'work' with Palmer in the warmup and after half time it's quite uninspiring to see

I guess I'm really sort of wondering why the vague diagnosis and nothing specific. If I had my conspiracy hat on, and waiting for THE announcement I'm tempted to wear it out of mischief, one might want to speculate its being used to scare off potential suitors till the end of the window?

Any one know what exactly this 'lower leg' injury is that requires surgery?
Hard to think of an injury between knee and ankle that requires surgery other than a proper old fashioned broken leg (Tibia and/or Fibula) or hamstring both of which would be a season ending injury I would guess

1-0 spurs in the 100th minute.

Shame because the Tamworth players and fans deserved a replay at that lovely new ground of Spurs. Money would have been great for club too from replay.
Sadly the ongoing dismantling of the FA Cup in favour of the big 6/8 means no replays these days Gaz  >:(

Gutless and lazy from the entire midfield,  Diangana Swift and Racic were shocking and Fellows was a waste of space. Least you expect is the effort from well paid players to compete. Why bother with Wallace? Just hope the new manager gets to clear some of these wasters out they've been carried long enough.
Maybe the triumvirate in charge for now were setting out the problematic players for the new guy to see in stark detail?

What about the probable long term damage to moral/spirit during a season or two of endless beatings, and I'm thinking more of the support base than the playing staff who, lets be honest, are generally quite mercenary about the club they are playing for at any given time
A hard core of supporters, including myself, will stick to it through thin and thin but I suspect the more bellwether modern breed of supporter will soon dwindle except for the appearances of the big 6/8

23
I thought todays game might be a good place to bump this back to the top for further thoughts and discussion!
Even with a full strength team and bench we would be equally as badly spanked week in and week out for 95% of our time in the prem and have to say it's not something to look froward to
The other 5% would hopefully be against the other promoted teams

Sadly the FA cup is now considered to be as dead as John Clees' Norweigan Blue parrot (actually it was a Macaw but that's another story)
