As usual there's a fair degree of pessimism on the forum although it's probably the one day for pure optimism.

With that in mind what memories are there of best and worst first games of the season. I'll start with beating Liverpool 3-0 in 2012 with Gera on song in the sun - we even missed a penalty! Contrast that to losing 4-1 to Merson-inspired Walsall in 2003.

I was reading about the League Cup winning team of 1966 and how John Kaye amassed 23 goals that season yet incredibly only finished third highet scorer at the club (presumably behind Jeff and Bomber). It's amazing with that record that we then converted him to a centre back. He left the club in 1971 a couple of months before I first went to a game so I really have no memory of what must have been some player.

What memories do people have of JK?

Brunt's second penalty hitting the back of the Liverpool net for me. So close between that and Mulumbu's winner against the Vile.

Anyone know what it is for this season?

Apparently last season it was £800K per place but I can't find anything about this year.

At a push we could catch Bolton in 8th and realistically probably our worst position is now 16th as I can't see the bottom four catching us. Even on last year's figures that would give £4m for 16th up to £10.4m for 8th.

We've got four very winnable games so let's go for it and boost the coffers for squad improvement - and maybe even wages Mr Peace.
