West Bromwich Albion FC / Player of the Season
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:08:44 AM »
Who would be your player of the season?

Nobody has really stuck out for me, there are a few honourable mentions: Berahino's goals, Ideye's attitude, Fletcher's leadership, Lescott's assurance, Brunt's displays in an unfamiliar position, Yacob's re-emergence, Dawson's displays in an unfamiliar position and Sessegnon's flashes of brilliance.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Wingers!!!

On what planet are Dorrans and Gardner wingers? Planet Albion of course. We are currently fully stocked at full back, centre back and centre midfield. We currently have 3 forwards so room for one more up top.

But what about out wide? We have Brunt & Sessgnon then ineffective square pegs in round holes Morrison, Dorrans and Gardner. We even played Mulumbu behind the striker? That's how desperate we are for attacking players

Our squad is crying out for attacking wide men with flair to create chances.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Next West Brom Head Coach

Tim Sherwood was today linked to Albion’s hot-seat – if the Baggies let Pepe Mel go in the summer.

Reports in London this afternoon claimed that the interim Spurs boss would be in the frame for The Hawthorns should Albion decide to change their head coach in the summer.

Name your best team of English players currently playing who:

1)Haven't been capped at full international level
2)Are too old to play for the Under 21's

These days, genuine 'in the know' posters in the transfer forum are few and far between and their input during this stressful time of year is greatly appreciated.

However, every year spawns a few new accounts claiming to be 'in the know' and when they get found out to be chancers or bored kids they disappear. Not until after winding people up after initially raising their hopes.

May I suggest the transfer forum have a similar rule to the Woodman, whereby you have to have posted a certain amount of times before being allowed to post in there, which will hopefully deter the chancers from posting their drivel.

Preferably the transfer forum will be available to view by everybody and just posting in there would be restricted.

Saying that, during busy times when something is kicking off with a transfer the site often crashes due to too many people viewing the transfer forum, this sanction might also limit outages at peak times of activity.

What do other posters feel on this controversial topic?

General Football & Sports / Tour de France

On Saturday it looked like a repeat of last year with Team Sky dominating the field after Nairo Quintana lit up the race.

But yesterday Team Movistar exposed Team Sky as being weaker this year, I expect other teams to do the same this week and keep on attacking.

Froome and Porte isn't quite as good as Wiggins & Froome from last year. Froome is a much more impulsive rider than Wiggins. Last year when there were attacks and breakaways Team Sky and Wiggins didn't go chasing after them putting themselves in the red. They just upped their cadence slightly and clawed them back bit by bit.

Yesterday Froome kept chasing down the attacks, which will catch up with him over the next two weeks. Hopefully Team Sky can recover and regroup because the rest of the peleton will be gunning for them in the Alps.

General Football & Sports / Euro 2012 - England Squad
« on: November 16, 2011, 11:17:16 AM »
What your England squad of 23 players be for Euro 2012 if all players are fit?

1)Joe Hart
2)Glen Johnson
3)Ashley Cole
4)Scott Parker
5)John Terry
6)Gary Cahill
7)Jack Wilshere
8)Steven Gerrard
9)Darren Bent
10)Wayne Rooney
11)Ashley Young
12)Kyle Walker
13)David Stockdale
14)Gareth Barry
15)Rio Ferdinand
16)Phil Jones
17)James Milner
18)Frank Lampard
19)Danny Welbeck
20)Bobby Zamora
21)Stewart Downing
22)Scott Carson
23)Joleon Lescott

There isn't much choice in the goalkeeping department so stick with Carson as experienced cover and Stockdale as the young keeper going for experience.

At right back Johnson and Walker are like for like with Richards snapping at their heals.

I would take Ferdinand beacuse of his experience unless Jagielka continues to play well and Ferdinand struggles with injury.

It was a toss up between Walcott and a target man either Zamora or Carroll. With Walcott unlucky to miss out.

I wouldn't take a reserve left back because Barry & Lescott and in emergency Milner can play there. And Baines probbaly wouldn't get a game so that's a waste of a squad place.

I would take Lescott over Jagielka & Smalling due to being left back cover.

I would also take Phil Jones due to being able to play multiple position. Jack Rodwell unlucky to miss out. Rodwell could sneak in if any of Lampard, Gerrard, Jones or Parker are injured.

With Rooney out of the group games I can envisage us playing a 4-3-3 formation like we played against Spain.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Jamie Redknapp's assessment of the Albion
« on: August 12, 2011, 09:18:04 AM »
The bloke's a tool and doesn't know his backside from his elbow when it comes to the teams who aren't the big four. Apparently Gera has got a sweet left foot? Isn't he right footed? And our biggest problem is creating enough chances, rather than lack of clean sheets and defendeing set pieces? Funny that outside of the top teams didn't we create the most chances?

Redknapp reckons

Buoyant Baggies should steer well clear of trouble

I am sure the target is still 40 points as quickly as possible and anything beyond that is a bonus.

Roy Hodgson is a realistic guy and I don't think, even the way they finished last year, he will be getting too carried away.

I think this season needs to be about consolidation because they've always been the boing-boing Baggies, bouncing from the Championship to the Premier League and back again. I think they would just love three or four years enjoying this league because it's the best there is.

I like the signings Roy has made. Zolton Gera has got a sweet left foot and knows the place well, while Ben Foster, even on loan, is a great signing. I don't mean to be nasty, but I never really fancied Scott Carson as a keeper, I thought he made too many rickets.

Shane Long is not a bad signing either, because they do need more options up front. Looking at their squad, they shouldn't have too many worries.

The gaffer: I was really pleased for Roy Hodgson the way West Brom finished last season. He must've had thought the football gods had completely deserted him at Liverpool; it was a bad time up there, there were a lot of politics going on, but the one thing that you cannot ignore, is that he is still a very good football manager. I think he's better off at somewhere like West Brom - and it's not because of the size because he has had success with Inter - and works better at a club where he can get them organised, get some discipline in place. He makes his team very functional; he won't set his side up to play with flair and guile, but his record his phenomenal. He did great at Fulham and I think he will do well at West Brom this season.

Will flourish because: Peter Odemwingie will always get goals. The confidence he got from last season should see him kick on and he will score goals, there's no doubt about that. He can be hit and miss, but is quick and adapted very well to the Premier League last season.

Will fail if: They don't create more chances. They will be looking for Gera to do that, as well as Chris Brunt, but scoring goals was a bit of a problem last year. With Odemwingie and Long there, they now have two strikers to get on the end of them.

The finish: Top half should be the aim. Like I say, Roy will be looking for the magic 40-point mark first of all, but I really can't see them getting dragged into a relegation battle.

Liverpool are lining up a shock summer swoop for Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey.

Liverpool could launch a shock summer move for Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey
The Jamaican-born midfielder has attracted attention from a host of Barclays Premier League clubs following an impressive season in the Scottish Premier League, helping Stuart McCall's side reach the Scottish Cup final.

Newcastle, Bolton, Birmingham and Everton are all said to be tracking the fleet-footed 22-year-old who signed a one-year contract extension with Motherwell in January to keep him at the club until 2013,
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is keen to add more depth to his squad in the close-season with Aston Villa's Ashley Young his leading target. But Humphrey is also on his list and considered a talent with a promising future.

Humphrey, who began his career at Walsall before moving onto Shrewsbury, via West Bromwich Albion, where he spent three years before becoming former Motherwell boss Jim Gannon's second signing in 2009.

Liverpool are reportedly sending a scout to monitor his performance at Hampden Park when Motherwell take on Celtic on May 21 bidding to win only their second Scottish Cup since winning their first in 1991.
Humphrey, however, would find it difficult leaving Fir Park. The club were deeply supportive of him when his partner sadly lost their unborn baby shortly after joining the club.

Speaking when he signed his new contract at the beginning of the year, Humphrey said: 'When the club approached me and asked if I would sign an extension to my contract it was an immediate answer.
