It was 1913 - Alf Bentley. Droitwich Baggie might remember  ;D
He got 4, not that I remember it

Interesting article
The only time I saw Dick play for us was alongside Percy Freeman and Phil Neale of WCCC when we beat Graham Taylor's Lincoln 3-2 in the FA Cup. I seem to remember, in that game, a very young Bryan Robson scoring a cracker playing at left back

Being an ‘old bugger’ myself, my first West Brom game might have been a couple of years before the 1954 final when my father and uncle lifted me over the turnstiles. Who knows, and unknown to me, Trev the Shed may have been playing in that game but sadly, I don’t remember who we were playing against and even the result!
That was when the Baggies got into my blood which has lasted throughout my lifetime.

I'm pretty certain Trev never played for us

Wallace gets it for rallying the crowd after the whistle 😃
For me first half was Yokuslu and Fellows
Second half would be furlong

Question….
Did anyone other than me notice that the blouse made 4 lots of subs?

The rules are 3 lots during the game plus one at half time so no problem with what they did

Samba in the Smethwick End. The story of how Batson, Laurie and Cyrille made is the best team to watch in England

I went to that game.  It was my second game ever and I seem to remember two Palace players scored twice (Derek Possee was one) and we weirdly dominated the game with Palace scoring their goals through a series of breakaways.
First game was the previous season,  also against Palace  1 all with Allt Brown scoring on debut.

Proper football is back for this week. Enjoy while you can before the American Arab Premier League is back on Boxing Day

I'm pretty sure the original poster was referring to players on our books when they went otherwise Rogic and Conor Gallagher would have appeared as would Hartford, Anelka, Gamboa, Kiely, Valentine, the Tatter, Kilbane etc

I've just watched Rangers 72 on Netflix. A very interesting documentary for those of us old enough to remember those times. The absolute star of the show is Wee Willie Johnston. Loved the clip of him sitting on the ball against Bayeryn Munich. Still as big a character today as he was when he graced our great club.

I dont really get accounts so its hard to comment much, but it is frustrating to see Lai follow Peace and take cash loans from the club. A quick google search suggests you might pay around 4% interest on that sort of loan, so £200,000 repayment. He has it at a fixed 1%.

Maybe somebody who understands businesses our size might offer some better commentary, but I can't imagine this is normal behaviour and especially not when the club are more than just a business.
Its actually nearer 0.5% as the £50K represents almost two year's interest

He's 42, but we could do worse

Penalty was a clear error by the referee.  Reach's finish was good from a Button pass down the middle.  Relegated Barnsley playing their kids and are clearly not Championship level.

At least their kids are getting some experience. Ours can't get any even when we're 3 up in a meaningless end of season game

He came in as a substitute against San Marino earlier in the season

I hate to mention it, but in his half season under Bilic, Nathan Ferguson was probably the best RB we've had at this level.

18
I'd put Townsend over Robinson personally. Other than that, it's hard to disagree. What a midfield that is by the way.
Surely Clem would be LB

Top 5 lazy players:
Luke Moore
Zohore
De freitas
Anichebe
Burke
Could any other club compete with that list?

Interesting seeing some of those names. By no means one of the worst 10 but Gabby Tamas is 38 tomorrow and is still playing regularly in the Romanian first division.

Best player in the league could have played anywhere for us and made a massive difference. Players look to leave clubs all the time. Zaha produced the goods again for Palace yesterday, how many times has he asked to leave. Fact is, with him under a long term contract we had the power to keep him if we so wished and for whatever reason we sold him on the cheap. Plainly, the board was not acting in the best interests of the club, but they will continue to have some fans covering for every mistake they make (not a jibe at you by the way). That transfer was about as sensible as Howard Kendall selling Cantona to Man Utd.
I think you meant Howard Wilkinson

As usual there's a fair degree of pessimism on the forum although it's probably the one day for pure optimism.

With that in mind what memories are there of best and worst first games of the season. I'll start with beating Liverpool 3-0 in 2012 with Gera on song in the sun - we even missed a penalty! Contrast that to losing 4-1 to Merson-inspired Walsall in 2003.

Sadly I don’t think Goal difference is going to make a difference for us now. In the scenario it matters, Brentford are up.

To give us a chance of getting goal difference in over favour, I think we needed to win this one by 5 or 6.
If Leeds capitulate it might help.Good for confidence if we can get another

Agreed on 82
Absolute best Fulham can achieve its 2 points a game which would give them 81
