Thick fans who can't read and absorb? I've just been speaking to a friend of mine who is a Dr and a s/t holder who said he is very worried about what will happen next season and about what will happen to the parachute payment. now I wouldn't call him thick.
Oh no a Doctor AND a season ticket holder who has an opinion? He MUST be right then.
This isn't about opinion this is about understanding the FFP and STCC and the ridiculous way in which sports journalists have twisted the truth to make a misleading headline. We are going to lose £100m a year easily by getting relegated. We'll also lose a lot of wages. It COULD help refresh the squad massively - look at Southampton and Leicester who went down two divisions, cleared the squad of overpaid prima donnas and allow you to start again. If we go down and come back up our wage ceiling resets to £63m a year.
In theory we are allowed to increase wages by £7m a year but anything less than £7m is lost - so in three years we can increase by 21m a year ONLY if we constantly add £7m - if we increase by £3m then £4m and then £3m we are £11m down on why we could offer as wages (and in theory attract better players. So it's actually in our interest to increase by £7m and be on that line - or we cheat ourselves out of a higher wage cap. That's only ok if those players don't get relegated or we start again.
I'm sure your esteemed Doctor friend knew these intricacies amd also knew this is the EXACT reason we voted against FFP (he totally knew that right?) and can see that if we go down and therefore he less moneycoming in we OBVIOUSLY have to cut that wage bill. And we will, because half the team will leave.
Now back to the topic at hand - the issue here is the reaction by fans to a non story - everyone should know we were at the absolute limit of our wages and have been for three seasons or so. I'm absolutely certain EVERY team in the league is operating at the with spending that extra £7m a year. If you don't then other teams LITERALLY overtake you with regards ambition.
