Blues have been making some shrewd moves this season considering their situation. Ethan Laird is a very good pick up for 750k, wouldn't at all be surprised if they profit off him like they have  Chong - the kind of move we should be all over but never consider.

Then beyond that Roberts for a nominal fee is pretty low risk given his age and young enough it might come together for him, Bielik on a free is decent work and still only 25, Dembele's a decent talent, and Miyoshi seems an interesting pick up. All in all good work from them. If they can recruit well on loans (and they did a pretty good job last season), then they could have a decent season.

It's depressing comparing our rivals shrewdness and forward thinking in the market to ours. The resigning of Erik Pieters says it all.

Wolves defender Dion Sanderson is undergoing a medical at Birmingham City today after they agreed a £2m deal plus add-ons for the centre-back. #bcfc #wwfc

Tessa Sanderson's nephew. Fact.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

Unless clubs have a very rich backer this is the harsh reality of football.

The #EFL Zone
@TheFLZone
Leeds United are in advanced talks with Chelsea to sign Ethan Ampadu.

Fee reportedly £12m.

Daniel Farke's first signing 🔜✅

Don't know if the EFL zone are reliable but have 62k followers and 1 of them is Carlos Corberan

It’s really noticeable how big Premier League spending has become when you look at the fee’s Leicester, Southampton & Leeds are committing to. All 3 clubs have agreed deals for players worth more than £10m & so far (I maybe wrong) the only player to command a decent fee is Maddison from Leicester.

I can see all 3 clubs spending between £30-£40m on incoming transfers this year.

Romano saying it's a £7m fee but with a sell on clause now.

"Fabrizio Romano
@FabrizioRomano
Ethan Ampadu leaves Chelsea and will join Leeds United on permanent deal, agreement in place ⚪️🤝🏻 #LUFC

Chelsea will receive £7m fixed fee plus add-ons, as @PhilHay_
 reported.

Personal terms also agreed."

Decent player. He can play both positions so it'll be interesting to see whether they look at him predominantly as a midfielder or centre half.

It's the benefit of having saleable assets, something we sorely lacked in our relegation, when only an underpriced Pereira could attract interest.

It's like Burnley last season managed to shift 4 players for 65m, and reinvest 40m of it. These 3 clubs will end up making large profits also because they all have saleable assets and likely won't give them away at a pittance like we do.

It really shows up our approach to transfers and recruitment.

Yep. me and many others saw we were sleep walking into a disaster by keeping Pulis who was only recruiting players over 28 on high wages with no resale value and criticised it over and over again.

We are now paying the exact price that many of us predicted

I don't think you can really blame Pulis at this point and it's been years since he left. Last season we had two players that Pulis signed/played - Phillips and Livermore. Phillips was signed at 24 years old and Livermore at 27...they weren't exactly 'old' when Pulis signed them.

During his time here, Pulis signed three players over 30 (Barry, Fletcher and Lambert) - whereas most of them were below 28 years old. You can check it https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tony-pulis/spielertransfers/trainer/617. So, to say that was his policy simply isn't true.

In my opinion, it's mostly been our business since getting relegated under Pardew/Pulis that has failed us. Since then, we have seemingly extended older players contracts too often which I agree on. Obviously, this has nothing to do with Pulis. In fact, I'd also say that since then our scouting has been very basic and lacking in creativity in general.

the road to the summit has dips, keep the faith when navigating those dips !!
