Preston have called off their Boxing Day game due to Covid. Be a surprise now if our game against them went ahead Thursday , which may be no bad thing in the long run.

We probably don't want a weakened Preston playing Sheffield United, but hopefully we can!

Selfishness aside, they need to publish rules for postponements. It is as simple as that. I find it hard to believe a championship club cannot field 14 players from the first team and u23's but I also agree there are integrity issues if a club has to field a side full of players that have never played a league game.  It should be a high burden though to get a game called off. Something like 10 positive cases for players that have played at least 1 league game.

They should also state that for any rearranged game, you can only use players that were registered with the club at the time of the original fixture.

QPR-B'mouth 0-1.  'Its the fine margins'. Sorry about the Don Goodmanism.

Won't know if it's a bullet dodged until he's played some games.

Might not be good enough in the Premier League but a star in the Championship. He'll have something to prove.

Only time will tell.

Interesting developments regarding matchday Covid tests:

'The English Football League has removed the need for clubs to test players for Covid-19 on matchdays in an effort to prevent late postponements.

Hull City's Championship game with Blackburn on Boxing Day was called off about two hours before kick-off when away fans were already travelling.

The EFL accept the situation was not ideal and believe that testing every day, apart from matchday, is enough.

The decision comes as eight EFL games over new year have been postponed.

Swansea City's Championship home game with Fulham on 3 January has been called off, as has the New Year's Day fixture between Coventry and Luton.

The New Year's Day League One games at Ipswich, Plymouth and Wigan are off, as well as Sunderland v Fleetwood on 2 January.

And in League Two, Rochdale v Mansfield and Salford City v Tranmere have also been postponed.

The EFL said it was confident its new measures were enough to ensure that matches take place safely without inconveniencing supporters.

"Over the past week, it has become clear that the requirement for matchday testing has caused significant concern and uncertainty at clubs as well as seriously affecting supporters," an EFL spokesperson said.

"The league revisited the matter with its medical advisors and, after careful consideration, which included dialogue with a significant number of club doctors, it was determined that the requirement for matchday testing would be removed, except for those individuals who display Covid symptoms.

"Daily testing will continue on non-matchdays with clubs following updated red protocols which remain our biggest protection against the transmission of Covid."

Luton have said the number of positive cases within their squad has increased following the postponement of the game against Bristol City on 26 December.

They also had the trip to Swansea on 29 December called off. Swansea said they also have "a considerable number of positive Covid-19 cases within the playing squad".

Lincoln's game at Ipswich is one of three League One matches off on 1 January.

"We had hoped, under new guidance, to have players returning to the squad after completing a reduced self-isolation period," Imps chief executive Liam Scully said.

"The new rules would have allowed them to come out of self-isolation with a negative lateral flow test after seven days.

"Unfortunately the tests remain positive which means we cannot fulfil the fixture. Those who have tested positive will have completed their self-isolation periods in time for our next fixture at home to Oxford United on 8 January, which we expect to go ahead as scheduled."

Bournemouth are leading against 10 man Cardiff. Safe to say we will need a striker signing in as early as possible as the gap opening up between us and the top 3 is getting bigger again.

Good news … EFL to scrap ‘on the day’ testing before matches. This means no late results that can lead to call offs and very frustrated supporters already at or going to games. Sensible.

Sounds like common sense

FOOTBALL INSIDER SOURCES

Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Sheffield United forward Oliver Burke.

They tried to sign him in the summer but have rekindled their interest and are negotiating a January deal. 🤝

I think if there is a tune in there and anyone can get it out of Ollie, Tony has a good chance as any

Apologies if this duplicates others posts  :P ;) ;D

Boro signing highly rated 20 year old Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun on loan. Have to hope Wilder’s bad luck with strikers continues, as Balogun has an enviable premier league 2 record. He looks like a Premier league striker in waiting and with Boro breathing down our necks we could have done without them making this deal.

They both look offside which I assume was why?

Both absolutely fantastic strikes though! He’d had certainly been better on 1500 a week than hugill.
