General Football & Sports / Richard Garlick

I can't be the only one who thinks this bloke needs to take some of the blame for the dross we are watching at the moment.

Sessegnon, Anelka, Sinclair, Lugano and Anichebe must be close to earning 200k a week in total which is about £10 mil a year.

I can't imagine Garlicks position is concrete at the moment.

What a great day that was and it signalled our return.  Was right in line when Hunty headed in the first and around by me we all jumped up fractionally before everyone else because we knew it was in.

Always wondered if we would have been promoted sooner to the Premier League if Ossie would have stayed.  Could understand why he decided to go to Tottingham though especially as Trev the shed didn't offer him a contract.

Great day though and will be one of my favourite ever memories.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Zoltan Gera signs 1-year contract
« on: April 25, 2013, 03:12:08 PM »
Does anyone else think the loss of Gera since the QPR away game has coincided with our poor turn of form  in 2013?

He was fantastic at the start of the season and scored some brilliant goals too but he looked really comfortable playing wide whilst offering good protection to the fullback.  Seem to recall him playing centrally as well and playing well.

The stats don't lie though in us winning 10 games up until that QPR and only 3 since.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Season Tickets Frozen
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:06:15 AM »
http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/albion-freeze-season-ticket-prices-712920.aspx

ALBION are freezing season ticket prices across the board for 2013/14 as they prepare for the prospect of a fourth successive season of Barclays Premier League football.

For the second campaign running, adult prices will start at only £349, under-17s at £99, under-21s/students at £199 and seniors at £269 – if bought online. These prices apply to all seats in the two stands behind the goals – the Birmingham Road End and Smethwick End.

The club announced big reductions to season ticket prices last summer, and also revamped their pricing structure, in a bid to make Hawthorns matches more accessible to the next generation of supporters.

This led to Albion recording their highest season ticket sales for four years and the same prices will apply for next season. The popular flexible payment options which were introduced last summer will also be available for 2013/14.

Season tickets for next term will go on sale to existing season ticket holders and new applicants today at 9am. The frozen prices – almost 20 per cent cheaper than that which the club charged eight years ago – are available until 5pm on June 3, 2013. Supporters who purchase a season ticket online will also pay £10 less than those who apply in person, over the phone or by post.

Once again, the club will not charge a booking fee for season ticket applications (excluding season tickets bought via direct debit). To help supporters spread their payment, a ten-month direct debit option is available, the cost of which has also been frozen from this season.

A nine-month interest free payment option is also available to anyone who purchases a season ticket with an Albion Mastercard.

From June 4, 2013, all season ticket prices will be subject to review. Season ticket seats that have not been renewed before this date will, in the first instance, be made available to season ticket holders wishing to relocate, and then new applicants.

Chief executive Mark Jenkins said: “The price of attending football matches is very topical at the moment and we hope the fact we’ve frozen our prices, on the back of making big reductions last summer, will be welcomed by our supporters.

“The team are making good progress on the field, having been placed in the top half of the table for the entire campaign so far, and the supporters have played a big part in our excellent home record.

“We hope the team’s performances, the prospect of a fourth successive season of Barclays Premier League football and a pricing structure which compares favourably with clubs of our size will give season ticket holders a real incentive to renew and also encourage other supporters to become season ticket holders.

“It has been encouraging to see more young supporters and families becoming season ticket holders after we revamped our pricing structure last summer and we hope to see that trend continuing next season.”

West Bromwich Albion FC / Problems
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:47:58 PM »
We have a player being sent off for spitting at at the opposition.

We have a player who many believe to be captain material who spits at our fans and flicks the Vs and tells them to f*** ***.

There is a serious lack of discipline at the club and today coupled with the Odemwingie affair means some heads need cracking.

General Football & Sports / Dan Ashworth

West Bromwich Albion are on alert to tackle a double-whammy from the FA in this summer’s search for a new managerial team to take England forward.

The Baggies’ hopes of persuading Roy Hodgson to extend his Hawthorns stay is already entangled in their Head Coach’s running to succeed Fabio Capello.

Now West Brom’s Sporting and Technical director Dan Ashworth is being linked to the vacancy announced from Soho Square on Tuesday which sees the FA looking for their own Technical Director.

Hawthorns sources stress that there has been no contact involving Ashworth, but it is inevitable the 41-year-old will be on the FA radar having established a reputation as one of the country’s leading performers in a role not always easily integrated in English football culture.

That Ashworth’s name is being linked to the post by London media sources adds to a confusing picture for the Baggies as this season enters its final phase.

Hodgson has also been named as a potential candidate for the Technical Director’s post as an alternative to the job of running the team for which Spurs boss Harry Redknapp remains a marginal favourite.

Also in the running for the Technical Director’s post will be ex-England defender and Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate who is already head of the FA’s elite development programme.

Steve Wigley, a close associate of current caretaker boss Stuart Pearce, is also being linked to the opening.

But former England manager Steve McClaren has ruled himself out

This would be a huge blow to our club if it happens.  Ashworth is arguably more important to us than Hodgson.

West Bromwich Albion FC / We are owed money from Pompey
« on: February 17, 2012, 12:40:10 PM »
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16943651
Portsmouth Football Club has entered administration for the second time in three seasons.

The Championship club faces being penalised at least 10 points, but could be docked as many as 20.

Portsmouth had been issued with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue and Customs on 3 January, freezing the club's bank accounts.

The administration order enables them to access those accounts and continue trading while searching for new owners.

During the hearing, it was revealed that Portsmouth currently owe around £2m to business creditors, as well as a similar sum to the Inland Revenue in unpaid tax.

Among those creditors are fellow football clubs West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bristol City, as well as the Football League itself. Portsmouth City Council is owed £78,000.

It also emerged electricity and gas suppliers have been threatening to cut off power to the club's Fratton Park stadium for non-payment.

Pompey became the first Premier League side to enter administration in February 2010, following which they were relegated to the Championship.

The club going into administration for a second time was 'disappointing' but the only way it could go forward, according to Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt.

"By going into administration other opportunities will come up for investors, who would have been reluctant to buy the club with a winding-up order hanging over it," she said.

Earlier this week it emerged Portsmouth had received their parachute payment from the Premier League early, however, chief executive David Lampitt told BBC Radio Solent it would be up to the administrator how money in Pompey's bank account - understood to be around £2.5m - is spent.

Pompey's parent company, Convers Sports Initiatives, entered administration in November, forcing the Championship club to search for new owners.

CSI administrator Andrew Andronikou then revealed that Pompey had missed two tax payments of £800,000 to HMRC.

It later emerged they currently owe HMRC £1.9m in unpaid tax as well as between £4m to £7m from the previous regime.

The club announced in January that their players and staff had not been paid their wages for that month, as a result of having their bank account frozen.

They later failed to gain a validation order to gain access to their accounts, leaving players and staff at Fratton Park still waiting to be paid.

Former owner Balram Chainrai last week said he was flying to the UK to sort out the stricken club's future.

The Hong Kong-based businessman, who owned the club with Israeli Levi Kushnir through a company called Portpin, is still owed £17m.

BBC South understands that any new purchaser would need to provide £12m as proof of funds, and assurances they could meet another £20m in repayments to former creditors, Chainrai and Alexandre Gaydamak.

However, the Portsmouth Supporters' Trust have claimed that Andronikou is asking them to provide £100m in proof of funds  before any meeting between them could take place.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Albion - London Office
« on: November 09, 2011, 01:36:29 PM »
http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/2011/11/09/west-brom-open-commercial-office-in-central-london/

West Brom have opened a commercial office in Central London in a bid to boost their sponsorship income.

The Baggies have opened the office in Belgravia as a base to meet potential commercial partners.

No club staff will be based in the capital but the office will be available permanently to hold meetings with bosses of London-based companies, without needing to travel to the West Midlands.

Hawthorns sales and marketing director Adrian Wright said: “We feel that having a base in the capital will, long-term, will strengthen the club’s position in what is a highly competitive marketplace.”

Strange story this is for me.  The rent on this permanent office must be quite high so this must be seen as a decent idea in the long term.  Dont companies fancy travelling to the Black Country these days?  :D

Could this be a step in the direction of a possible takeover?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Building from the back?
« on: September 25, 2011, 09:26:06 PM »
I've heard this expression alot when a manager comes in.

Is it possible that Roy is trying to sort out the defensive side of our game before concentrating on the forward play?

Last season we were pretty good going forward but woeful at the back. He came in and we looked more organised but still we shipped goals for fun.

I'm desperately trying to understand why we are so defensive and look clueless going forward.  This is really the only thing I can cling to.  After 6 games we have already equalled the number of clean sheets that we had all of last season.  That has to be a good sign.

Are we underestimating how good he is?  Has he identified a major problem with our make up and is looking to rectify this to enable us to fully establish us as a Premier League team?
