Everton and Forest getting stung and City and Chelsea in particular with as of yet no punishment certainly stinks.

I did this assessment in another thread and we need an average of 74 over the last 10 years to get 6th. We’ll easily get that but 78 will be needed for 5th I think.

12 points from 8 games with our fixtures should be easily doable.

There are 5 teams chasing 2 places with the following  fixtures

Coventry Huddersfield (A) Cardiff( H) Leeds (H) Southampton (A) Birmingham (A) Ipswich (H) Hull (H) Coventry (A) Queens Park Rangers (H)

The most interesting fixture from Coventry’s fixtures is Coventry (A). Should be a high scoring affair! 😉

Bilkul have paid off the £5m loan that Lai took out from the club to prop up his other businesses.

Effectively £5m back into the club which will go down as profit under FFP.

Excellent stuff. Although I don’t expect it will find go as far as making a difference on the pitch at least it stabilises the finances a bit in terms of day to day expenditure and managing our MSD debt.

Confused as to whether Bilkul have paid off a Lai debt to the club, and so we have £5m in the coffers. Or if Bilkul has cleared off a debt that the club was liable for?

Thought he was the only one who came out of the 1st half yesterday with any sort of credit and was visibly p1ssed off at what was happening in front of him.

If we stay in this league I’d offer him a 1 year extension on reduced terms. I don’t think we’d be able to replace for a like for like quality for any less.

I wanted 4 points from Huddersfield and Bristol C but I thought we were more likely to get 1pt at Huddersfield.

Bristol (H), Millwall (A), Watford (H) our next 3 games.

9pts - best case and all but secures is playoffs imo.
7pts - good return and will be really happy with this
6pts - Par and still has us on course for playoffs but continue to look over shoulder
4pts and below - poor return

It’s strange watching a team fail so badly at being pressed by two teams in the relegation zone when our game plan relies on us being pressed?

Easily the worst I’ve seen us play this season.

We play too slow. I enjoy the possession football but there must be a time when it’s turned j to attack?

Huddersfield look half the team of QPR.

Just got to focus on ourselves. We’ve got 60 pts and need at least around 74. 14 points from 11 games. Very doable with our fixtures.

All well and good saying x is better than Townsend and while that maybe factually the case when comparing player to player you have to add the context, for Townsend it’s that our level is probably 6-12th Championship (I honestly feel we’re overachieving at the moment).

Is Townsend a 6-12th Championship quality left back? I’d say he definitely is. We missed him Weds night.

Is he a top championship or lower PL quality left back? Probably not.

He’ll make mistakes but he’s fine for our level and I think his determination and professionalism makes him greater than the sum of his parts. would probably need replacing if we were promoted. Phillips was ahead of him before his injury.

I've worked out that of our remaining 13 fixtures we have 7 of the top 12 to play and 6 of the bottom 12. So the run in is on paper on the harder side.

However of the 7 matches against the top 12 we have 5 are at home, 2 are away so that's in our favour with our home form.

5 of our 6 matches against the bottom half are away and 1 at home.

Hull (A) - 1
Coventry (H) - 3
QPR (A) - 0
Huddersfield (A) - 3
Bristol C (H) - 1
Millwall (A) - 3
Watford (H) - 3
Stoke (A) - 0
Rotherham (H) - 3
Sunderland (H) - 3
Leicester (A) - 0
Sheff Weds (A) - 0
Preston (H) - 3

In the previous 10 seasons there has been a range of 69 pts to 80 pts required to get into the top 6 with an average of 74.4 pts needed to get to 6th. we're currently on 55pts so we need approx 20 more points from 13 games.

Where are the points coming from the above then? Can you see us getting them? I think we'll get around 23.

I had the first 2 matches right, and we've got an extra point on top of my predicitons so ahead of schedule on our march to the play offs!

4 points from next 2 games please (Hudd -A, Bristol C (H))

Quality keeper. Good command of area, good organisation. Not too bad with ball at his feet considering. Good shot stopper. Susceptible to the odd mistake but if he wasn't then he'd be in the PL and not with us.

I know CC’s hands are tied a bit with injuries at the moment but this Wallace/false 9 system we are playing at the moment isn’t working at all. Weimann has to start for me and give us some sort of outlet.

System working the only criticism I can level at the Manger is sometimes he makes subs for the sake of subs and we get really disjointed.

I don’t think he made subs for the sake of subs last night.

Okay wasn’t having his best game, looked tired and took a big whack in the first half.
Townsend went off injured.
Weimann for Wallace makes perfect sense, fresh legs up front and I thought Wallace was a bit ineffectual in the false 9.
Bartley to shore things up when they were in the ascendancy.

Maybe they did have an effect on the game but I thought they made sense.

Fantastic win. A really big one too. We deserved it over the course of the match but the second half was very average. We won’t fancy much tougher opposition this season though (just Leicester really)

No issues with MM staying. Continuity at the very top would be valuable at this transition stage.

The 'football side' of the club needs an overhaul though. We need to establish a good scouting network again. With the new P&L rules coming in, finding gems like we used to along the lines of Olsson, Mulumbu, Dorrans, Odemwingie, Yacob, McAuley is a must if we are to progress as a club.

No issues at all with Palmer. Loads better than Button, at least as good as Johnstone who got England call ups. I like Palmer more in that he waited so long for his shot, turning down bigger moves and he's one of our own. Palmer is easily one of the top 6 keepers in the league and will more than likely hold his own in the bottom half of the PL if we were to get there. Keep up the good work!

We're blessed with goalkeepers for the time being with Griffiths a good keeper too albeit less experienced. Isn't Ted Cann highly rated too?
