Brighton sack Hughton....waiting for Durhams take on this..especialky after this DM rant......would Hughton be a shout for us ?

Strange decision from Brighton... They survived the drop (albeit by only 1 place and 2 points) and reached the cup semi-final.

I'm not quite sure what more he could've done for them or what they expected from him, but I suppose only the fans of that club will know though if it was right call or not - much like with our own club when Moore went - We don't watch them week in week out.

I think that's very harsh on Hughton I think he's done a good job down there.
What do their owners expect ,who are they anyway?
Seems to have done pretty well wherever he's been.
Yes I'd take him for our manager/ coach.

Rather harsh on Hughton. Not sure what Brighton want really, probably champagne football on a Brew XI budget. Thought he had done a sterling job with the players available.

I think in the long term they may regret that, I would have him here anyday.

Over to you Mr Durham.

Taken them as far as he can. 2 wins since 2018, I think?

If he'd have stayed, they would be surefire relegation candidates, so they are backing themselves to find someone to build upon the groundwork Hughton laid.

It's risky, but probably correct. So far in his career he's done nothing to suggest that barely surviving relegation isn't his skill ceiling. Gives a new person a full summer to build their own team. It is ultimately what we should have done with Pulis a couple of years back.

Of course the media will cry their eyes out about this one, the same as when Adkins was replaced by Pochettino, Phelan replaced by Marco Silva, Sherwood replaced by Pochettino (you'd think they would have learned their lesson on this one), and so on.

Probably goes a lot deeper; but on surface they have had a very poor second half of the season. In some of our most successful Premier League campaigns with Clarke and Pulis; we similarly tailed off albeit not near a relegation battle and this carried over into the next season; seeing both sacked before Christmas.

To not finish 2 points above relegation, with 2 wins in 5 months.

We sacked our manager when we finished in a similar position.

His remit for the season was to improve them. They finished with fewer points and stayed up more by luck than judgement. He had to go.

Well he has guaranteed them greed league football for another year. Admittedly the 2 wins in 5 months does not look good but again I refer to the resources he has available to him compared to other teams in the league.

I am sure the three teams below them would gladly swap places. We would have accepted that finish last year.......

Just had a quick read of the tw@tter. He's been challenged over this by an Albion supporter. He's also rather predictably deflecting questions by implying others lack the capacity to think, as opposed to coming out in Hughton's defence and going for Brighton. The shock jock politics of point, smear and attempt to humiliate. Well versed in the art of spin, a quite despicable specimen (in my very honest opinion). You watch, the tw@t will get some kind of an award for this and be labelled as a crusader in the fight against racism. Disingenuous, click bait tosser.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.
Oh, and always remember to defecate on those Vile chaps in claret and spew.

The ownership of sheffield United has took another interesting twist.

Money used from the Bin Laden family to help fund the club

I see that Dan Ashworth is already working his magic at Brighton by persuading Graham Potter to leave Swansea. Swansea’s owners are similar to ours - they are worth an absolute fortune collectively but won’t invest anything in the clubs that they purchased. It just doesn’t make sense.

Unfortunately FFP rules have created a closed shop designed to protect the big clubs.

How do wealthy owners inject cash without breaking the rules?

Derby and Sheffield Wednesday both sold their ground to their wealthy owner although that loop hole will now be closed.
It is not the taking part, but the winning that counts.

The way the game distributes money creates a cartel. To break into the Cartel Man City were bought by Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund and they spent the better part £1bn on the City Group. The simple truth there are virtually no other ownerships that could do that and even if they were they would have to be motivated by something other than normal commercial considerations because the investment has generated no returns in nearly a decade.

Many clubs went bust with benefactor owners trying to mimic the Man City model i.e bankroll the club beyond it's means to the point that it's sucess on the pitch generates revenue to be self sustaining. This model is still prelevent in the Championship because teams are just one short step away from the riches of the Premier League.

FFP was put in place to try to stop this. It failed clubs still go broke and owners still behave like gamblers desperately trying to get unstuck after a particualrly bad session at the casino.

The latest ruse of selling the ground to the ownership should not be allowed because it is selling a community assest to an entity that is not the football club. You can only do it once and when the money from the sale runs out and you are still in the Championship and renting the ground which gives them even less revenue to spend on players.

Yet none of this is FFP's fault. Or rather it is a reluctance to on the part of the authorities to tackle the real problem which is the horribly skewed way in which the game's income is distributed.

A Newspaper report is claiming that Newcastle is on the verge of being sold to an Arab sheikh who will want to keep Rafa Benitez. If this is true then it is nailed on that Rondon will stay at Newcastle and we’ll have £16.5m in our coffers. The new owner is said to be a cousin of the owner of Man City. I wonder if there is another rich cousin who would like to buy us!!!

Yes and the guy on twitter who claims to be in the know suggests someone has bid twice as much for the Albion.  ;D

Am I right in saying he's related to the Man City owners?

Have a feeling Newcastle will be looking at bigger fish than Rondon now they have some money to spend.

Could become a real force if they spend the money correctly. I don't mind seeing Newcastle do well, passionate fans and well followed.

The thing is, in theory, even if you want to go out and spend £100million x 11 on eleven brilliant first team players, FFP stops you from doing this unless your club is already generating enough income to sustain such purchases and wages. In theory you can't do what Man City did a relatively short while ago to go from a mediocre team to one that's winning the Premier League regularly. You're just not supposed to be able to do that any more. Only way to do it I suppose is build gradually and increase your income from sponsorship, media income and the commercial side of things. The thing is, you can't make that much money commercially unless you already have a winning team.

Or just say sod it to FFP and buy whoever you want and just wait for the sanctions afterwards.

Real Madrid have completed the transfer of Eden Hazard from Chelsea for an initial £88.5m + add ons. Personal terms have also been agreed. The deal will be announced imminently.

He will be a lose, not only to Chelsea, but to the Premier League

Can see Chelsea really struggling next year in terms of a top 4 place, if the transfer ban remains in place then Hazard will be a huge loss for them and one they wont be able to replace.

With Sarri wanting to leave aswell, could a top 6 finish be the best they can aim for?

Hazard was the best player in the Prem for me and I also think is one of the top 5-6 players in the world in any position. If the transfer ban does remain in place then I would agree that top 6 will be the best they could hope for.
