I'm still up for it, let's hope the players are.

Less than 1,200 tickets remaining for this fixture with Huddersfield sold out.

Get down their lads and COYB  8) .

Apparently we're at the same position after 27 games as 2004/05 (7pts adrift and bottom).  So I dug out the Great Escape DVD earlier and watched it.

There were some things that came to mind:
1) Hoult made many mistakes (I think he developed a back problem hampering his movement) so we're lucky to have Foster who is better.
2) We made horrendous mistakes at the back (Moore past it / Purse woeful).  So I think we're better served in Defence with Dawson/Gibbs/Evans/Hegazi.
3) The Midfield from Feb 2005 onwards was infinitely better than what we have now.  Gera was just outstanding, Greening very influential, Wallwork hitting form, Richardson brilliant for 3 months.  We are nowhere near right now and that's depressing.
4) We had a natural goalscorer in 2004/05 (Earnshaw) and 2 dependable workhorses (Horsfield/Campbell).  Again unless Sturridge hits his straps we are weaker in this department.

The really telling thing for me is the midfield of 2004/05.

Anyhow we can stay up but only if we beat Huddersfield and nothing less!

It's an interesting comparison with the great escape season! I'd say that team seemed to have more characters, scrappers than the current team who seem (all perceptions) a little quiet on the pitch. Teams that stay up against the odds generally have to find an x factor which is a sudden patch of goalscoring form or they have the character to dig in and fight for results. This 'character' factor is the biggest difference between a Villa last season and a Swansea this year. Players can have less quality but find an % together, as a team by working their socks off and focusing.

As you say Sturridge is the only potential x factor for goals and I have seen little character in the important games so far (against teams around us) to show that the players can dig out results.

This team feels more like Robson's relegated team the season after so far - flat, overpaid, selfish with in fighting being the only fight they had.

I'd love this bunch to find some balls and quickly!

We simply have to do our bit from the stands and just pray that it helps the players on the pitch as quite frankly that is all we have left. At the very least we if we do that then we can all say at least we did our bit.

Going forward I want to see Albion's 'best team' ever, not 'best players'. There's a big difference.

Would probably depend on the manner of victory, Huddersfield are awful away from home. I think it'll be a draw tbh.

Doubtful, unless we are particularly convincing.

I'm not sure what the point of your endless negativity is, do you want us to get relegated?

Come on Fritzl, chin up!  :) You wanted the previous manager gone as much as I did but, if having a more attacking manager in AP ultimately ends in a failure to stay up, what's the likelihood of them having someone whose approach is defensive again next?

We are down, us going on this miraculous run seems to also be based on the fact no-one around us will won or pick up points. We aren’t but everyone else is.

It's the hope that kills you, slice by slice.   In some ways it's better to just get our relegation over.  Like pulling a plaster off quickly rather than a bit at a time....

Head tells me the game is up after a pretty gutless performance last week but heart says we can still pull it off.

I can offer no argument or reasoning behind my week by week optimism, call it blind faith but I just can't concede we are down with 30 points to play for.

Alan Pardew has promised changes today & as someone who was against his appointment, I have backed him all the way, however, if he lets us down today with team selection\tactics he will deserve to be shown the door.

Had we offered anything by way of a performance last week, I could probably accept even blind faith. But that meek display about summed it up for us, there is not a hope in hell.
