In any other country she'd be lauded for her achievement.
Here all we hear is 'she ain't British'

Yeah British people hate sporting success for some reason and always have to find something wrong. If she hadn't chosen to represent Britain the same people would probably be slating her as she has used our facilities and coaches for so many years yet picked to represent another country  :-\

People deride and take the urine out of countries like Ireland and Wales, picking players with sometimes distant and tenuous ancestry.

In all cases though there is some evidence of ancestry. Konta was born to Hungarian parents and was brought up in Australia, trained in Spain for a couple of years, and took Bitish citizenship in 2012

We are so desperate for sporting success in this country that we are quite happy to overlook all this and adopt her as a British hero

There's nowt stranger than folk eh. Having said all that she did well

Out of a general interest I was wondering what your thoughts were on the legitimacy of Cyrille Regis's five England caps?

Do you think he should have been allowed to represent the country he moved to when aged five, or do you feel that he should have represented France when given the opportunity having been born in French Guiana?

As far as I am aware Cyrille never lived in France, and also bear in mind that French Guiana is not and never has been a member of FIFA.

In an ideal world I think you should only represent the country of your birth, but I can understand someone who has been in a country (and possibly a citizen) from a very young age wanting to represent that country, but the problem is the way the system is abused.

In Konta's case she was an Australian citizen until 21 years of age, spent all her formative years in Australia, and indeed had already represented Australia.

It'll be strange when Federer's not around anymore, whenever that is. Genuine sporting legend still in top gear.
